The Last Blow Job (2001)
something different
For starters, the other comment on this short seems to be a mistake. There are no meteorites in this movie, neither do the characters named in that post appear.
"The Last Blow Job" is about two bomb technicians on site. While trying to disarm a bomb one of the two starts to talk about relations and we learn that the two were a couple. All in all you get 15 minutes of nice entertainment with an interesting twist in the end. The camera work and editing might be worth mentioning. While during the main part of the movie we only see 2 actors and only hear their dialogue, the way the story is represented keeps showing new ways of presenting the story and the movie never gets boring. Not art, not anything you have never seen before but entertaining and -i an way- funny. 7/10
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
Overrated
This film seems to be nothing more than a lame excuse for showing violence. And while showing showers of blood (way overdone, really unrealistic and not even a bit funny) it does almost everything wrong, what a film can do wrong. There is no acting at all.. save Uma perhaps, who at least changes the look on her face. Lucy Liu for example is awful (though pretty). The "idea" of showing the plot not chronologically isn't new and one might get the feeling that this is Tarantino's effort to link to Pulp fiction. In this case it doesn't work. At all. While the plot may reveal itself as quite a bit better than thought in Vol.2 (who knows) this part is just boring.
Worst of all was IMO the sound engineering, something that is a flaw in a lot of films from the USA but this one takes the lead. There were however some nice scenes regarding camera work. But in battles as ridiculous as these, that won't help too much. Speaking of the battles. In Matrix and Star Wars we got at least an explanation for what is happening, in Asian films flying sword-fighters are something mythological. Here none of this applies and all we see is a 30year old women who spent her last four years in a coma and doesn't need even half a year before she moves like Marvel Super Hero. A little kryptonite would have helped.
Spellbound (1945)
If you like Dalí, you will like this one
Spellbound is basically a story about psychoanalysis, a murder and all that covered by a love story. But not comparable to any movies of the 90s that deal with amnesia and murder mysteries. This one is unique. You know this is a Hitchcock movie after the first 5 minutes, the shadows will tell you for sure. If you have seen one of Hitchcock's movies in black and white, you'll know what I mean. The acting is pretty good, although I was a little disappointed by Bergmann but the camera work compensates this in a way. The plot starts really slow (just like in many movies of the mid-40s) but takes a few unexpected turns towards the end and keeps actually getting better. And there's always a little room for a small funny line that might make you smile.
A major flaw however is the quite annoying music that alters between being too cheesy and too dramatic and it is way too loud in comparisson to the voices. There is another thing, you will have to keep in mind, when watching this movie: it's from 1945!! The views on women and psychoanalysis may seem out of date or even silly today I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll just say this much.
If you like Dalí, you will like this one. 8 out of 10
Boogie Nights (1997)
Basically boring
Actually I don't see why "Boogie Nights" is rated so high. And I cannot agree with the other comments about this movie. It didn't do anything. Boogi Nights is hardly anything more than a boring story that goes like this: Making porn- being rich- losing the money - making porn again. A rather shallow approach. 4 out of 10, boring story, the rest is ok.
