Suspects (2014)
Not very good
Originally, I thought it was just poorly written only come to find out it's completely improvised. I think the actors would do a better job of actually acting if they didn't have to come up with their own lines. The documentary style filming is distracting, the audio is choppy as well as the plot direction. This series is like a crime version of The Office, and it ping-pongs all over the place at a very fast pace. It was truly exhausting to watch. I suppose some would consider it an original concept, but I did not care for it at all. Not much else to say to meet the required word count for this review...
Shetland (2013)
Minority View
Well, most recent reviews are critical of casting Ashley Jenkins but I think she is doing a great job. I personally became tired of the Perez character after several seasons. Honestly, I felt the acting (Tosh), writing and direction left a lot to be desired, very choppy, thin and predictable. Just like Vera, Shetland follows a very predictable formula, the station scenes are shot like something out of sports huddle. The mystery stories are usually original but overall the dialogue among the main characters can get cringey at times. I do agree that the language Jenkins uses should be toned down.
Hidden Assets (2021)
First Series Much Better than Second
The first series was much more enjoyable than the second one is shaping up to be. Series one, in my opinion, was better developed and realistic with a storyline that kept the viewer engaged and I would rate a 9 out of 10. The second I would rate a 4 out of 10. The second series, unfortunately, is not as engaging and the lead actress is cold and wooden in her delivery. The plot and actions/decisions of each of the police units border on farcical. A lot of stilted dialogue, and again, situations that are somewhat unbelievable. I like the crossover between the Ireland and Belgium police, however I don't think they had as much to work with in this second series, plot wise. I suppose it could redeem itself in the final two episodes, here's hoping.
Me, Myself and I (2017)
Cautiously Optimistic
The way in which the story is told is unique and a welcome respite from TV shows that move at a frenetic pace, i.e. Modern Family, American Housewife. Not sure how long the "originality" of the show will keep my interest, but John Larroquette is always good to watch. The story has heart and it will be interesting to see where it goes. My only beef is that, in stage 3 of the character's life, Larroquette's middle school crush is played by Sharon Lawrence who is some 16 years younger, and looks it. Not very plausible. Perhaps I will have something to actually look forward to on TV.
