This movie is a MESS
2 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The acting was fine in this movie, it is a stellar cast after all. It's just the storyline and the decisions characters make that to me are frustrating and not realistic. It makes me sick watching them married people cheat and lie to their spouses!!! In my mind, it's very easy to NOT do this. Just walk away!! Don't entertain it. So that's why I was frustrated with "Vicky"'s character. Also it was very obvious to me that Juan was just a player who wanted/needed to get another girl in his bed as soon as the other one left. I didn't find him to be charming, I found him to be creepy and sleazy. But what did I expect from a creepy and sleazy director??? It's 2024 and no one is watching Woody Allen movies anymore. This movie was produced by the Weinstein company to boot. Yikessss.

Little Marvin does it again!!!
30 April 2024
I am a huge fan of the "Them" series. When I saw that season 2 was coming out, I was counting down the days until it would be released. It did not disappoint. Like the first season, season 2 adds an element of supernatural horror to real life horror (police brutality, child ab*se, generational trauma) and delivers the goods in an extremely thoughtful and impactful way. This was the best episode of the series in my opinion. The throwback to things and characters in the first season gave me chills and had me shouting at the TV (in a good way). I also love that this episode is directed by TI West ("Pearl", "X", and the upcoming "Maxxxine") he is my favorite director right now. I hope Little Marvin will keep this series going for a long time to come!

Not scary, nothing like the original Omen
15 April 2024
The real "first" Omen from the 1970s was terrifying. I saw it as a young kid in the 90s and it gave me nightmares, especially considering my early upbringing in the church. A prequel to the original Omen might have been good, but this attempt was not. The movie was not scary AT ALL!!! It came across as more of a trippy student art film than a horror film. Also parts of the movie were so dark it was impossible to see/understand what was happening. I disagree with what one of the other commenters said about jump scares- ANY jump scares would have been better than nothing, at least it would have added some element of fear to the film. I don't understand all the positive reviews for this movie. Either people are getting paid to write these reviews or they have never seen any of the original Omens. Even the remake in 2006 was better than this!

CONTEXT/story development is important!!!
15 April 2024
I'm gonna start off saying that this movie is good. It had me on the edge of my seat. Very intense, acting was amazing and all that. What I take issue with is there is literally ZERO context/backstory for the events happening in the film. Why were CA and TX fighting against the US government? What led to this conflict and how did it begin? The movie does not get into any of these questions. The movie is solely about the experience of the war and fighting through the eyes of journalists. I think the directors did this on purpose to either not further inflame political divisions and/or set the stage for a future prequel movie, which seems to be the trend lately as TONS of movie franchises seem to be doing this lately. Either way, it was an interesting watch but I am frustrated by the lack of backstory/context in the film.

Gen Z teen dramas hit different
17 March 2024
But they will never beat 90s teen dramas!!! I watched this movie because someone recommended it to me because I love the LGBTQ dark comedy "bottoms" and they said I should check this out. It was an OK movie. I get that they were paying homage to the classic 90s teen drama genre, and it was cute. The costuming was fabulous and the acting was good. I don't know any of these young actors and actresses, but it was fun seeing Sarah michelle gellar playing the headmaster in this film as "cruel intentions" was my favorite 90s teen movie. Absolutely iconic. But the best part of this movie was the bearded dragon. PUT BEARDIES IN MORE MOVIES!!!!

That was bad and the people who made it should feel bad
16 March 2024
DON'T FIX IT IF IT AINT BROKE!!! The original mean girls was absolute PERFECTION!!! An iconic masterpiece, a staple of American culture. I get that they wanted to do a musical, but why not just do that? Why did they have to make a movie? It's just weird. Should have just left it to Broadway. It was good seeing Tina Fey back in that role, she hasn't aged a bit and it's been what like 20 years??! It was also cool to see the same principal too and the cameo from Megan thee stallion (I LOVE her!) Lindsay Lohan at the end, but that's about it. Not even comparable to the original, but curiosity got the best of me I guess. Just don't even bother wasting your time with this one.

Just OK
3 March 2024
Reviews on here seem to be very mixed. I am not aware of this Nicola person, the only thing I know is she is a nepo baby married to another nepo baby- David Beckham's son. It's cool she had the money and resources to make a film, too bad you can't buy talent.

The story line is kind of all over the place. It does not flow well, and the decisions Lola makes are not realistic to what an actual person in that situation would make. Nicola tried to make a film depicting what a poor person's struggle is like, but it's obvious she doesn't even have a clue. Maybe she should stick to what she knows- shopping, fashion, and luxury lifestyle.

Fans of the short story will be disappointed
11 February 2024
It seems like a lot of people don't realize that this is a movie adaptation of the short story "Cat Person" by Kristen Roupenian in the New Yorker a few years ago. The short story was fantastic, one of the best things I've ever read. Despite knowing that generally film adaptations of literature often leave much to be desired, I was still excited to see this movie. Well, unfortunately this was no exception. The movie is at its best when it uses lines and scenes directly from the story. It fails miserably with all the other stuff the writers and directors put in to "fill out" the rest of the story. It essentially made the story very confusing and convoluted, and possibly even changed the original message and meaning that was given in the short story (what even WAS that last scene??!!) Overall pretty disappointed and fans of the short story should probably stay away from this movie.

actually not a bad film
10 January 2024
It's definitely not an Oscar winner either, but overall it was a fun watch with an interesting premise and a few scary scenes. The production of the movie seems more like a B-rated straight to TV kind of movie, so I'm surprised that it's playing in theaters. Maybe save your money and see this on "home streaming" like I did, but could still be fun if you're a group of teens wanting to see a scary movie on a Friday night. *sigh... nostalgia* I love swimming and pools so I think it's fun/funny when movies make you think and/or be scared of something you love. Acting wasn't too bad either. Give it a watch.

This movie is WAY overhyped
6 January 2024
I really don't understand why this movie is getting such rave reviews on here. Yes, it was very stylish, the music was great, and the acting was good. But the storyline was a HUGE disappointment. I kept waiting for something to happen, and when it finally did I was severely underwhelmed and disappointed that that was the direction the filmmakers went. It's overplayed, not creative or interesting. I saw the movie "Parasite" and I LOVED it. This movie just seemed like a cheap and trashy knock off with some bizarre scenes thrown in there for "shock value". Watch it if you want to see what all the buzz is about, but I'm just saying you might be left disappointed and wishing you would've spent 2.5 hours of your time on something else.

The best space move since 2001: Space Odyssey
25 November 2023
Where do I start.... WOW this movie was so visually stunning. Excellent cinematography. I know it came out in 2012 but I just watched it. Don't know how I missed it before as I am a fan of the alien movies. This movie takes us on an interstellar journey in an attempt to answer the Big Question of "where did life on earth come from?" Great acting by the cast. Lots of interesting historical/biblical/Greek mythological references, and the special effects were something else!!! I found it to be a very immersive experience, like I was right there with them experiencing the birth of life, living on a spaceship, and exploring an unknown planet. Ridley Scott does it again!!! Highly recommend if you have not seen it.

Once upon a midnight dreary...
18 October 2023
Every once in a while, netflix comes out with a knockout show ("Queens Gambit", "Squid Game", "Stranger Things", etc.) that makes the ever increasing cost of a monthly subscription worth it. "The Fall of the House of Usher" is one of those shows. I would have watched it all in one night if I could have like I did with Squid Game, but the time constraints of work (and sleep) made this not possible. Nevertheless (or should I say "nevermore"???) I could not look away from this show. Very much like reading one of Poe's short stories, I couldn't put it down.

This is the first of Mike Flanagan's works I have consumed, and I am compelled to check out his other shows on Netflix ("Midnight Mass", "Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor") because I have watched this.

Keep up the great content!!!!

Lost me at the end
3 September 2023
I truly hope the director/writers see this review

This movie had SO MUCH potential with an interesting storyline and characters. It was also pretty creative, taking place in the 80s and being a foreign film. But that's about all the positive things I have to say. It really felt like it was building up to a lot of different things, but then what it turned out to be just fell so flat that literally any other ending would have been better. I'm upset and annoyed. A movie is only as good as its ending, and this one flunked it BIG TIME. Save yourself the trouble and frustration at just watch something else- anything else.

This is one of my favorites movies
29 August 2023
I don't even know where to begin. I love A24 films and really like what TI west is doing with the "X" franchise. This movie is so cool how they make it look like technicolor. It very much reminds me of an evil and twisted wizard of oz. Very creative and entertaining. The storyline and descent into madness by the titular character "Pearl" is fascinating to watch. She is obsessive, and the obsession turns violent and murderous. The movie portrays very well how completely devastating it can be when your dreams are not achieved, and the feeling when you want to prove everyone wrong but fall short. Very complex feelings and emotions throughout the movie. Mia Goth is an incredible actress and I love watching her portray these characters in the "X" franchise. Can't wait for the third installment "MaXXXine"!!!

Mixed feelings
19 June 2023
I binge watched this in one weekend. It was hard to watch but at the same time I couldn't look away. The acting and cinematography was superb. Very stylish and creative. Music was great too. I was delighted to see TI West ("X" and "Pearl") had directed some of the episodes. He is one of my favorite horror directors out there right now.

As for the story- look up "sociological hauntings."- a haunting (literally or figuratively) that occurs because of past harms or wrongs committed by society and/or individuals, and how these past harms show up in modern day life. This series depicts that extremely well, which is hard to do.

It was really hard as a white person to watch this. I imagine it would be even harder for a Black person. I had to keep asking who made this series (Little Marvin, a Black man) because at times it did feel like over the top Black exploitation and torture p*rn. Overall, I would like to see more stories depicting Black joy and happiness, because hopefully that's the future and where society is headed- and racism and all its evils will be left in the history books.

HATED the ending
24 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It made me visibly angry. Without giving away too much detail (warning: some spoilers ahead) like other reviewers have said the director does such a good job building tension throughout the movie and then just leaves the audience guessing about what happened at the end. There is a right way and a wrong way to do ambiguous endings, and this was not it.

I was also annoyed that woody harrelson's character, arguably the biggest star of the film, just disappears for the second half of the movie while they were all stranded on the island. I suppose he died in the wreck? Once again, the movie forces the audience to guess what happened, but I was mostly just disappointed and angry.

Donald Glover does it again
21 April 2023
Is there anything this man can't do??? Another fantastic series by this brilliant creator. The style and cinematography (and of course the music) is very cool and well done. The story line is gripping and intense. I watched all the episodes in one night I could not put it down. I'm also really into true crime shows so this really hit for me. The characters are really interesting and unique, Billie Eilish even makes an appearance in one of the episodes and that was a fun surprise to see. She absolutely killed her character in that episode. Just all around a really good show. Maybe this show won't be for everyone but it was definitely for me.

And yes I am also a big fan of Atlanta.

Who wrote a story about my life without my permission???
22 December 2022
I just got back from seeing this movie in theaters. I'm not sure what to say yet because I'm still feeling and processing everything I just watched. All I can say is the performances in this film were incredible all around. I was crying throughout the majority of the film because so much of what was depicted and described in the movie paralleled so many things that I have experienced in my own life. I only wish my dad could have seen this movie before he passed away last year, and that maybe we could have talked about it if we had been in touch the last couple of years. This movie probably will not affect everyone the same way but it definitely had an impact on me. I've never seen anything like this before. Ever.

This film is really bad
9 December 2022
Alternative title for this review could also be, "wtf"? I love movies and going to take in a movie at the theater. I saw this movie in theaters when it first came out. It was so unforgettable that the only reason I'm remembering it now is because I was reading about another Paul Thomas Anderson movie and this one popped up. The movie was sooooo long (I'm not sure if it was actually long or just felt like it), but it definitely dragged on and honestly I'm not even sure if I stayed and watched the whole thing or if I got up and left. It would have been the only movie that I had ever walked out on if I did. Just very confusing, hard to follow movie. Don't waste your time.

Flaming hot garbage
12 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everybody involved in the making of this movie should be ashamed, but especially the director Andrew Dominik who called Marilyn Monroe nothing but a "well dressed wh*re" in one of her most famous films. This whole movie portrays Marilyn as a victim with no agency over her life. This whole movie is a shame and abomination to her legacy, and should have never been made.

***SPOILER***

this movie also takes a lot of liberties (lies) about what actually happened in Marilyn's life. It was never confirmed that she ever had an abortion in real life, but the film depicts this with some serious anti abortion sentiment. It's quite frankly disgusting.

13 July 2022
Don't ever watch this movie. It should have never been made. The only thing worse than this movie is the fact that horrible, evil, sick things actually happen in real life and not just in movies.

I hated this movie
28 April 2020
Wish I could give it 0 stars if I could. If I had known it was from the director Yorgos (whatever his last name is) then I would have never watched it. I hated his other movies too- "the favourite" and "the lobster". If you like those movies then you'll like this one. But I think these movies his moves are dumb and a huge waste of time. STOP MAKING SH** MOVIES!!!!!

I don't think anyone is supposed to like this movie
4 July 2019
I gave it 5 Stars because I couldn't decide if I should give it all or none. It's not the best movie I've ever seen, but it might be the worst. I am disturbed and highly unsettled. The cinematography was fantastic but that only adds to the feelings of existential horror and dread. I wish I could take it back. I said the same thing after I saw heriditary. I knew it was going to be the same way, and yet I still went. I'm probably going to be thinking about this for a long time
