I want it to be 2021 already to view the next season.
This series is AMAZING! I am a big fan of the game and was hopeful but reluctant at the same time, and the trailers didn't really convince me. Man was I in for a big surprise...
I'll break it down for you:
1. Henry Cavill nailed it - he speaks, looks, gesticulates and breathes like Geralt. Even the barely comprehensible slow gestures he makes with his hands in the water wile bathing are GERALT. At some point I thought Doug Cockle (Geralt's voice in the game) was doing a voice over.
2. Fashion wise - except the Nilfgaardian armor every item of clothing looks awesome.
3. Stage Setup - every frame of this capture seems perfectly planned and timed. All decor (I don't care if it is CG or real built decor) looks perfect, believable and does a great job of immersing you in the world of The Witcher.
4. The Bard's songs are real impro art - they sound just like the ones in the game, but I guess this would be the easiest thing to do.
5. All main characters have background story and are believable and lovable.
Ciri is developing slowly and interesting. Yennefer is the only one who could have been a little more rational so that she would be more believable.
6. Action - packed with incredible choreography just like in the game, really detailed monsters, effects are at a Movie level.
7. Story - It takes from two of the books and it is stitched together (very well I must say) to create a sort of introduction to the trio's (Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri) great adventures to come.
At first I thought it to be a little confusing, because of the portrayal of different timelines, but as I was realizing it I was actually working the character's, individual timeline's way to a point of convergence I was pleased and admired the seemlessness of the transitions. It's a work of art.
For those who want to compare it with GOT - it's right there, only with a slightly different style of a world (more magic, more monsters, more fantasy than GOT and little less politics) and bigger budget :D. For all others - It's one of the greatest dark fantasy "swords and magic" piece of cinematography you will ever find.
