Franklin (2024)
Miscast! What were they thinking with Douglas?
I love history. Loved HBO's John Adams. I hate Franklin. Miscast with Michael Douglas. I so preferred Tom Wilkinson as Franklin-what a tour de force! What Apple TV has done with Benjamin Franklin and John Adams really is a travesty. Hard pass. Just can't get over Fatal Attraction meets 1776. Too much French subtitles, very slow, and the audience just doesn't care whether the characters succeed or fail. I have so enjoyed much of the AppleTV content-especially Manhunt. Edwin Stanton was amazing!! Good writing, good portrayal of history. But Franklin just falls flat against a myriad of powdered French faces on the screen.
Lightyear (2022)
Buzz wasn't the main character in his own movie!
Not good. This movie wasn't about Buzz, but was about Izzy and her grandmother (sorry I can't remember her name, she is equally forgettable).
And Buzz chooses a terrible untrained group of misfits who screws up EVERYTHING over the trained people for Star Command? Please!?! Awful.
Dumbo (2019)
Just didn't have the heart of the other Disney live action movies...
So DARK! Should have been a DC movie! Now, I've seen the original, and I get it-Dumbo is probably the saddest of the original Disney cartoons. But this one really needed the levity of the mouse. Didn't enjoy Michael Keaton's character at all.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
HATED IT!! Sucked!
When a New Hope came out in '77, I was just 6 years old. For the past 40 years, I have LOVED Star Wars!! Empire Strikes Back was epic!!
The Last Jedi was anything but epic!! Almost everything about this movie stinks. Stupid story about running out of gas, flying Leia through space, a Luke who has totally abandoned his friends. Hate the Politically Correct crap getting shoved down our throats, and that no one is extraordinary and everyone is just ordinary. They killed the characters I like and won't kill the characters that are crappy. Thanks Rian Johnson for ruining Star Wars.
Man of Steel (2013)
Less about Superman--should be called Super-alien
This movie really did stink it up for me. Though I am a loyal Marvel fan, I have enjoyed 2 of the 3 Dark Knight Trilogy movies (Thought Dark Knight Rises wan't worth the hype after The Dark Knight). Zac Snyder ruined this movie--it felt and looked too much like the weird CGI in 300. Too much weird space stuff, it felt too cold--to 'steel', just like the title explains. Superman really wasn't the main character, but Krypton and Russell Crowe were.
They did a good job capturing the DC concept of Krypton, but I didn't come to see a movie about Krypton--I came to see a movie about Superman. Too much dark CGI for me. I saw it in 2-D; can't imagine how much darker the 3-D glasses would have made it. Big Disappointment. Too much CGI fighting, and not enough humanity and emotion. 2 Thumbs down and a big Toe!!
