Snowpiercer (2020)
Took a good movie and turned into a trainwreck (pun intended)
The plot is acceptable at first, while they're still running off the story in the movie. Unfortunately, once they have to write the rest it makes so little sense it's hilarious. It's full of plot holes and none of the characters' evolutions make any sense. Pretty typical of Netflix, I guess, but it's especially obvious here.
As many others said, the main male lead is terrible. Unfortunately so are a couple of others, but at least we don't see them as much.
This show is full of lazy writing, bad acting and is a total shame to the original story.
Sisters (2017)
Really enjoyable show
BUT... the ending felt rushed and it left a lot of loose ends that really could've been resolved.
Despite that, the acting was great and most of the characters' dramas were well rounded and good. It does have a lot of situations that just felt like excuses to cause more drama - things that could easily have been avoided and don't feel that... real. But in the end you get over it as it's an enjoyable experience overall.
Girls (2012)
Very much dislike Lena Dunham, but like this show
As this show is finally coming to an end, I felt the need to write a review about it.
I see a lot of people on here commenting on how this show is just another SATC and all the characters are notoriously narcissistic. First of all, besides some general aspects, this show is nothing like SATC. Second, of course they're narcissistic. That's exactly how SO many people are, especially at this age. They're self involved, they don't know how to listen to others but they like to think that they do, they form flimsy friendships and don't know how to handle fights in relationships. They hate everyone and they hate themselves, they are sometimes spoiled little s*its who make a big deal out of every little thing.
This show is depressing, because it's very real. The characters aren't just free to be crappy. Their s*itty actions have consequences. They grow with the story, and eventually start to understand that life isn't just about themselves. They change.
I like Girls because it's honest. It doesn't try to make it look like people being self involved and crappy to each other is fine, it doesn't sugarcoat it or make excuses. The characters will annoy you, you will want to slap their stupid faces for doing stupid things...
But that's the point.
Art School Confidential (2006)
Could have been pretty good, wasn't.
I watched this movie at the recommendation of a friend. Honestly, I feel like I've more or less wasted my time with it. I'm an art student, so I'm not talking from outside of this world. Now, I understand that this movie is intended as a bit of a parody, but it fails to deliver that. It's filled with clichés and just disappointed me. From the very start, I didn't like Jerome. Badly written character. He lacks depth, personality, and is weak. He so easily changed his mind about life after talking to Mr. Serial Killer that I almost laughed. Suddenly, everything is dark and brooding, while the movie didn't set the pacing or the atmosphere for this kind of mystery flick. Besides, the ending being left unexplained doesn't "make me think" as I imagine was intended, it just leaves me dry and uninterested. The only reason I'm giving this a 6 is some of the secondary role actors who were good in their place, and some scenes that sparked my interest. Maybe my expectations of this were too high.
