Extremities (1986)
Riveting Drama
It is the ultimate victim gets revenge movie. It is also a brilliant example of a good person and bad person and how they make decisions. She settles for nothing less than the truth from him and it is so satisfying. Absolutely delicious. This and Burning Bed put her in the Oscar category for me. No make-up or pretty Farrah here. This was bare all and it was brilliant. Love her and sad that she is gone.
Red Sparrow (2018)
Brilliant!
I loved this movie from beginning to end. Jennifer Lawrence is amazing in the title role. The story line is brilliant and surprised me, which is rare. You see what you want to see and then in the end you see the truth. It is the audience that is seduced. I loved every minute of it.
The Iron Lady (2011)
Insight into Iron Lady
Yet again, Meryl Streep shines at the center point of the universe. Her transformation into Thatcher is nothing short of amazing. I believed! Putting politics aside, this movie is about a woman's rise in a traditional male-dominated field, kicking butt and taking names. But it is also a look into that great leveler - old age. And yet another layer of a sweet marriage through thick and thin. It is about perseverance and standing on your principles. I cannot think of anything more British than a "stiff upper lip" and she was this personified. I very much enjoyed this peek behind the scenes of an amazing woman in troubled times.
You may not agree with the politics, but you cannot disagree with the artistry of Ms. Streep. An Iron Lady all on her own.
Deceived (1991)
Goldie Hawn shines
This movie is a mystery with plenty of twists, but the real star is Goldie Hawn's performance. I find it hard to believe that she has not done more of this type of movie.
The major problem I had with this movie was the big fat plot holes, namely how you get a car to flip with a dead guy driving or how a guy that works in town gets away with a second family, or if he was Daniel, then who was fencing the rare Egyptian jewelry, or why didn't she fall down the hole too? Too many leaps of faith are expected of the audience and exactly why I did not rate this movie higher. I did, however, enjoy the "New York" ambiance, the sets and the wardrobe (which was not too embarrassing from the early 90's). Goldie could try another hairstyle though, really, it was a little distracting remembering that it has not changed since her Sock It To Me days.
All in all, it was fun to watch and it does jump your heart a few times, just as a good thriller should. Definitely worth watching for Goldie's performance alone.
