Marty (1955)
10/10
Outstanding Production
21 September 2005
This film, despite being made in 1955 carries a message that transcends time and generations. One thing that makes this film so ageless is the story could easily take place today. I am surprised Hollywood has not made a modern day version of it. I see Tom Hanks as Marty and Rene Zellweger as Clara. Many people who see this film will get a huge sense of Deja'Vu. Ernest Borgnine was perfectly cast as Marty. This film has been criticized for promoting negative stereotypes of Italian Americans but I think this may have been due to the era it when it came from. This film is probably the most underrated films of the 1950's. This film is a must see for any lover of the old MGM Classics.

Outstanding Mini-Series
22 June 2004
I first saw Brides of Christ when A&E aired it 1991 and it remains the best mini series I have ever seen. Brides is a testament to the incredible amount of undiscovered acting talent that exist in Australia. The film has a bit of a left of center political slant but is still an outstanding production. To its credit Brides does a credible job explaining the turmoil in the Catholic Church that resulted from Vatican 2. This mini series should be shown throughout the Islamic world as there are many parallels. You must have this Mini Series. I bought the 3 tape VHS collection and just bought the DVD because the VHS have become worn out due to being watched over and over. I loan them out to everyone I know.

Bon Voyage! (1962)
DISNEY'S MOST UNDER-RATED FILM OF THE 60'S
29 April 2004
Nice Disney family film in the tradition of Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson & LT. Robin Crusoe USN. Stars Fred Mac Murray & Jane Wyman as well as veteran Disney child actors Tommy Kirk & Kevin Cochoran, and the late Deborah Walley. Real star of this film is the old Ocean Liner SS United States. - 1962 was the twilight of the big Transatlantic Ocean Liners and " The Big U" shows herself in all her glory. Shot on location in Paris and the Riviera, it gives us a look back at Paris back in the 60's with all the fads and fashions. A bit dated for today's tots. This film is probably better suited for adults looking for a nostalgic look back.

Underated Film
11 January 2004
What makes this film unique is it is one of only two that contained characters from the Benny Radio shows, bandleader Phil Harris, Eddie Rochester Anderson, Dennis Day, and voice cameos with Mary Livingstone and Fred Allen. The plot is a spoof of the radio Westerns of the day. If you are not familiar with Benny's career and the old radio shows you may miss much of the humor in this film. But it is still a fine film if you can find it. I was lucky to find it on Ebay as it is unavailable anywhere else. Ellen Drew is perfectly cast as the Dame who is the object of Benny's facination. Eddie Rochester Anderson sings MY, MY, in the film which became a huge international hit at the time. Benny's next film after this one was " Love Thy Neighbor " opposite Fred Allen, you must have both these films in your collection.

Space: 1999 (1975–1977)
Memories..............
18 May 2003
When I think of Space 1999 I think of South Side Elem School, Schwinn Sting-Ray 5 Speed Bikes, My dad's Navy Blue 1974 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme & my parents big 25in cabniet model Zenith TV. When this show was on the air it was the hottest thing to hit TV since the original Star Trek. I remember all the toys, the big plastic EAGLES and the walkie talkie communicators and battery powered laser guns. Catherine Schell as MAYA still holds the Sexiest Alien girl ever Trophy in my opinion. I was very sad to learn from this site that Tony Anholt passed away of a brain tumor in July 2002. To this day I am at a loss as to why this series had such a short life. I suspect production costs in the UK sank it. To any of the former cast & crew who may read this, Martin, Barbara, Nick, Catherine, & so many others thanks so much for the memories and for an outstanding job. I own all the DVDs now and show it to friend's kids every now and then and they LOVE IT !
