Sweet little Short film
10 January 2017
I don't normally review titles but I just watched this short film and found it quite moving, then upon looking it up I noticed that the only review of it wasn't that favorable so I decided to throw in my two cents. This short film is very charming and sweet and has the feel on one of those pixar films where something very simple occurs but it takes on this bittersweet profound meaning and gives you a feeling of warmth and happiness. Now imagine that but live action and with a couple grumpy old men and a decent amount of adult language. All and all it made for a very entertaining short film that I would recommend to anyone because not only was it very moving and funny, but it is only 16 minutes and very easy for anyone to view.

F Is for Family (2015–2021)

Very Honest
20 December 2015
Just finished binge watching the whole first season of this show. It is fantastic. The animation is cool, the voice acting is great and most of all the writing is superb.

Maybe its because I had a similar home dynamic, but never in my life have I seen such an honest portrayal of family life and all the anger and frustration that come along with it. The voice acting is also outstanding from Bill Burr. Most people that play an angry character can make it come off quite cartoonish, yet somehow Bill Burr manages to make a cartoon come off very human by letting the anger build throughout a scene or an entire episode.

I highly recommend this show.

A Bromance for the ages
23 September 2012
I had never been a big fan of the X-men movies as I found most of them seemed to lack a powerful story, although the one thing that I found was that the relationship between Magneto and Professor X was intriguing to say the least. Why would a Villain like Magneto have so much compassion and by the look of it, a friendship with the leader of they antagonist Professor X.

Well now that has been answered with the greatest X-men movie yet hands down. This movie explains the origin and at the heart of it is a movie driven by character development and relationships the key one being between Eric (Magneto) and Charles Xavier (Professor X) as you see how they came to be friends and how they became the two key mutants of the future X-men series.

The pacing of the movie is superb and the story line is well written and keeps you interested throughout.

They often say that "The Dark Knight" was the first comic book movie that was seen as being not just a comic book movie, and I say the same about X-men first class, it is more then just a movie for people who are a fan of X-men and people that are a fan of comics, it is hands down a simply fantastic and well crafted film.

Red State (2011)

Don't Listen to the Idiots
27 January 2012
For all of you who are thinking this is supposed to be a horror movie you are wrong, Kevin Smith himself states that it is not one, it is a movie meant to keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing until the very end.

Unlike most movies today that have an ending that is so predictable that you know it before the movie is more then 5 minutes in. Red State is a movie where Kevin Smith is truly going where the puck's gonna be not where it is. Instead of defining it in one genre he creates a mash up of genres and it makes it a three act movie, with no real protagonist because each character has their flaws and problems just like people in real life. I honestly think Kevin Smith has made something special here, this is one of those movies you can watch multiple times and each time you are shocked that some of this stuff could happen in a movie and its weird because to my memory there has never been a movie like this that is so all over the place yet perfectly centered at the same time, and once again it is not at all predictable in the least bit.

Now other then the great set up which was something brand new and great in my opinion, the acting is phenomenal. The three boys from the starts all capture the reality of a high school friendship with the way they make fun of each other and having some witty dialogue. Next the religious fanatics lead by Michael Parks are so off putting and scary and it is done very well. Michael Parks puts on a performance that is so scary and so well done and probably one of the best pieces of acting I've seen in a long time with his great monologue in the church when being introduced. Next Melissa Leo plays her part very well and she is truly a great actress and deserves to be recognized for the intensity of her roll in this film. Finally the ATF group which is lead by John Goodman is a Goodman you haven't really seen before but is so well executed that you are surprised he hasn't been playing characters like this his entire life.

I would highly recommend this movie and have turned many friends on to it and at the end all of them say "Kevin Smith? the Jay and Silent Bob guy directed and wrote this..... That's amazing" because it is unlike any work he has ever done and is clearly his best movie to date.

The American (2010)

Horribly boring
31 May 2011
This movie looked so great on TV and seemed like it was going to be a James bond like movie that was full of action, smarts and mystery. But instead it was about 2 hours worth of silence.

My first that was that the beginning scene with him driving through the tunnel during like the credits was really dry and dragged out but I was OK with that because the opening scene had a good hook, but really it goes down from their and by the end of the movie I found my self feeling like nothing was really accomplished by any of the characters.

Finally, when the movie had ended I kept thinking I would love to see the script for it because really the script was probably only 12 pages of dialog, where as most scripts are 120 pages which really says a lot about how poorly this film was constructed.
