Ivalo (2018)
Overall a great series let down by rubbish stunts
I have to say I really enjoyed the first series and 5/6ths of the second series. I liked the characters, the storyline and especially the stunningly bare location.
Unfortunately, after watching all 10 of series 1 and 5 episodes of series 2, we get to the pivotal final episode (I haven't watched Series 3 yet) and it was if they'd run out of money?
The stunts (fights/shootings/etc.) Were like watching a car crash in Corronation Street or Eastenders (UK TV Soap operas (with laughable stunts/action sequences)). Just so unbelievable that for me, it sort of ruined what had been a really enjoyable season.
Boat Story (2023)
What happened?
After the first 2 episodes of Boat Story I would have given this series an 8. I like Daisy Haggard and loved her 'Back to Life' series so just couldn't see anything going wrong.
Did the writer become ill? Did the writer have a breakdown? Was there a coup in the writers room? What happened between episode 2 and episode 3 to absolutely derail the series?
I guess I can't put too much detail or else I'll be spoiling it for everyone but I have to say.....the writers have ruined it for everyone anyway.
Let's just say that 2 characters who are portrayed as cold hearted, torturous, killers, suddenly become anything but.
In one respect, the writers have saved me the time of watching the remaining episodes. I don't care what happens now.
What an absolute waste of a promising start.
Queen of the South (2016)
Is this meant to be for kids?
How does this get 8/9 star reviews? I've tried to watch on 2 or 3 different occasions and never get past episode 2 as it's the most far fetched thing I've ever watched on TV.
You would have to be a kid or an idiot to think any of it is believable. So they show that the cartel has zero regard for human life yet when Teresa tries to escape in episode 2, numerous people have machine guns pointed right at her at point blank range and nobody shoots!!!
Then, the guy drives through central Dallas, with his passenger having (I assume) 23 oz of drugs in her, and he drives like a professional rally driver on amphetamines. Any police who see him driving like that would immediately give chase. I understand that they need to get to the airport and are late.....but why? Only a complete idiot would drive like that knowing he was carrying any quantity of narcotics. How stupid do they take us for. They'd rather have a 3 min action sequence than make things believable.
I simply turn it off at that point. The most ridiculous/unbelievable TV series EVER.
Invasion (2021)
Utter garbage
I eventually gave up half way through episode3 after the bus crashed 40 meters into some pit......but all the kids were just fine. The English thread is absolutely ridiculous with the bullying angle laughable.
The fact that we've barely seen an alien doesn't worry me. One of the best Alien films was, funnily enough, Alien, and you didn't see the creature till the last few seconds so no issues there.
After 3 episodes, I want EVERYONE to die as the characters are just so unbelievable and I couldn't care less about any of them. The people giving this high ratings must never have seen a good sci-fi drama in their lives as this is UTTER TOSH. Save your precious time and go find something else to watch.
The Ritual Killer (2023)
Save yourself 90 minutes to do something else
Wow. Wish I'd read the reviews before wasting 90 mins of my life on this.
I won't ruin it by giving any spoilers as the writing, direction, cinematography and acting are what ruined it.
Not sure how Cole Hauser could be so bad at acting. Maybe he didn't say too much in Yellowstone so you just didn't notice but he was truly awful in this.
Even Morgan Freeman was useless which again, I'd never have expected.
It's unfortunate as the premise was good. Having visited kwa-zulu Natal in South Africa, I had come across Muti so was intrigued when it came up near the start of the movie.
I'm guessing this was one of those known flops that people write off tax against.
Kermode & Mayo's Take: SHRINK THE BOX: 1: The Sopranos - Tony Soprano (2023)
Free Spam advertising for Therapists
OK. Whilst at first sight, this seemed like a great concept, it quickly turned into an advert for Therapy. Whatever your physical issues, they COULD BE your subconcious screaming something at you. Come pay me a fortune (over time) and sit on my couch.
Pussie's (from Sopranos) bad back COULD BE his subconcious screaming that it couldn't carry the WEIGHT of these massive issues anymore. So, if YOU have a bad back, forget the Chiropractor and go see a therapist. Of course, to me, Pussie's bad back is more likely to be from lugging 350-400lbs around since he was an adult but hey, you never know.
It's like Astrology or Homeopathy for rich people. Got Luekaemia? Don't bother with all the Chemo, rub some of these essential oils on your temples instead (Oh! And pay me £200 for the recommendation). Bit upset that your boy/girlfriend left? Well that's because Mars is in alignment with Uranus (that'll be £100) - Got a bad back - You need THERAPY to unburden yourself.
Even the preview on K&M Take 1 a couple of weeks ago had me screaming at the speaker. Mark admiting he's been in therapy for a couple of years (well done you) and that one thing seems to come up in EVERY session -YES! THAT'LL BE £300 PLEASE MARK
At one point Sasha say's that she doesn't see her clients as paychecks and she really wants to HELP them. Well if that were true, surely you'd stop charging them exorbitant fees if you haven't managed to cure them after a few sessions? But no, what she wants to do is make everyone feel that ANY physical ailment could be cured by seeing a therapist. And K&M are giving her free spam advertising.
Utter, Utter Borrocks.
Two Weeks to Live (2020)
Daisy not really a Comic actor
Should point out I only made it to nearly the end of 2nd episode so it's possible (but not limely) that it gets better Just?Just not my cup of tea. Daisy Williams may be a decent actor, but doesn't seem to have comic timing to carry this on her back.
A Serious Man (2009)
Maybe the joke is on US ????
Sorry, Think I am a serious (non-jewish) man and I just don't get this film at all. Do you need to be Jewish? I saw it was by the Coen brothers which mostly means an enjoyable time. Well, I won't fall for that one again.
Utter rubbish. Not funny at all. Maybe the joke is on US?
Maybe the Coens are pissing themselves at the thought that they have flummoxed so many people or worse, that so many people wasted 100 minutes of their lives.
Maybe the fact that Hollywood used to be run by Jewish people explains why this was nominated for an award. Maybe it's a howler if you understand it.
Wow - Fargo, that was slow but hilarious. No Country for old men, that was slow but unmissable.
This was just slow (and painful to watch). I may have smiled once or twice but only because I possibly died whilst watching it and had a rictus grin.
