Death Proof (2007)
Maybe Death Proof but is it watch proof?
Being a fan of Tarintinos film making such as Kill Bill Vol 1 and Inglorious Basterds this one had slipped through my net.So Death Proof is the first part in a double bill of 'Grindhouse' the second film being Planet Terror directed by Robert Rodriguez. This is some what of a homage to the genre of Grindhouse which were Exploitation films of the 1970's and 80's films such as Last House on the Left and Death Race 2000.
What we have here is Kurt Russell(Escape from New York. The Thing) playing a stunt man who likes to kill woman in his death proofed car so that's the plot done with. It relies to much on the endless conversation drivel that you get in Tarintino's films. The film all so has references to far to far many films Which the average Joe Blogs film. The actresses in the film are just annoying but not in a cute girl way they are just annoying. They also fill the need to do a sexy dance for a random 5 minutes of the film which doesn't make sense.
The film is full of what I can only describe is surf boy music.
109 Minutes this picture ran for.you could of easily binned 30 minutes out of there at nearly 2 hours this film is quite long to fill the time. The final scene which is a car chase and kill was quite entertaining and its just not enough.
Although I do like Tarintinos works this one wasn't as great as it wanted to be.On that bombshell can Quentin Tarintino stop doing that thing he does in films it seems his acting please stop.
Waterloo (1970)
Sweepingly Epic
My third viewing of Waterloo was probably the best viewing of the film I had had.It appears this film gets slightly better every time it is seen. This really was one of the last huge battle epics that came from the 60's and early 70's. Rod Steiger plays Napoleon pretty well but it goes from French to English to American apart from that good portrayal of the trumped up little Frenchmen. The director Sergie Bondarchuk had filmed a similar film to this a year before called War and Peace.I see this as an unofficial sequel to War and Peace as it battles and ball room dances are similar in style. I was very happy to see Spaghetti Western legend in this film Gianni Garko who stared as Sartana the gambling gun slinger in countless films.Al so spotted in this film was Coronation Streets Fred Elliot but was refrained from saying "I want meat,I say I want meat. This film time is comfortable at roughly around 2 hours.A great score as well by Nino Rota who previously had scored Visconti's "The Leopard and later went on to score "The Godfather". Orson Welles is all so in this film for about film minutes if you don't know who he is well his that morbidly obese character who plays Louis XVIII with some what of a British accent. I would love to have seen this film on the big screen i only hope one day it comes out in some poky art house cinema.
Jackboots on Whitehall (2010)
Inglorious Thunderbird Basterds
The invasion of England has happened the Nazi swine have invaded. The whole of the British Army is stuck in Dunkirk.A Sleepy country town must save England and seek help from SCOT-LAND only to find the Scots are still a bunch of savages. Will the threat of the Nazis be wiped out will they be sent packing down the hole they made.
Funnily enough I have been waiting for a film like this for years now and finally here it is. Jackboots on Whitehall is a great piece of work.It was a labour of love for the creators.
I saw it at the Odeon in Panton Street which it seemed was the only cinema to be showing this.
Jackboots on Whitehall will be forgotten quick and I doubt it will reach the box office top ten. What a thoroughly enjoying rump and did I mention its a puppet film but a bit more.Of course some of the jokes are obvious and you can see them coming before they happen.Lots of laugh out loud moments such as the protection of F.A.N.Y,The polish builder who just wont stop working, and the Raj army sitting on top of the roof of the bus they travel on.The Braveheart jokes were a grown fest. My only problem with this I would of cut maybe 10 minutes out but not sure where from. Jackboots on Whitehall had quite a good soundtrack. This for me did a little more than Team America but there really cant be a comparison because there not even made by the same creators but these are the two racy puppet films. The film is filled with Allo,Allo moments as well as spoofs Where Eagles Dare and Battle of Britain. This is easily in my Top Ten films of the year.
WWE Hell in a Cell (2010)
An Improvement on Last Years Event
World Heavyweight Championship Hell in a Cell Match Kane vs. The Undertaker A Solid match that should of happened 12 years ago Paul Bearer turns on Taker and costs him the match after a beam of light that blinded the Undertakers which you can judge for yourself was so 1994
WWE Unified Divas Championship Michelle McCool vs. Natalya Sorry Don't watch divas matches
John Cena vs. Wade Barrett An emotional match a good match back and forth Cena lost so he must join the Nexus some of the season 2 rookies got involved into the match. But it was really stupid seeing children crying at the outcome of this match
Edge vs. Jack Swagger This match wasn't on the card.It was simply a filler to set up the two for a feud on Smackdown
WWE Championship Hell in a Cell Match Randy Orton vs. Sheamus- Great match loved everything in this match it was solid threw and threw its a shame that Sheamus gave a backbreaker to Orton on the steel steps which had no effect what so ever
U.S. Championship Triple Threat Submissions Count Anywhere Match Daniel Bryan vs. John Morrison vs. The Miz This was one of the best matches of the night.Thank god Daniel Bryan was rehired by WWE.This was a high-flying spot fest I hope there's a rematch soon
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009)
The Not so Human Centipede
After missing this in cinemas which seemed to have a 2 week stint at some dusty art house that you have never heard of.I picked up a copy of the film on DVD.I thought it would be a lot more intelligent than Saw and better than Hostel 2.
So the film starts two women in Germany in the woods,Flat Tyre,a wonder threw the woods and then stumble on a mad doctors house. It has Cliché written all over it but without the Cliché there would be no film.I didn't know if the story was serious I found that the 3 dogs being stuck together was a joke and i could imagine the dogs pure confusion at this. So now we are 40 minutes in to the film and oh yea Don't TAKE WATER FROM STRANGERS EVER EVER!.The mad doctor performs surgery on the the 2 girls and an oriental guy. They are now stitched together from rear end to face.
The film fills much better than Hostel or Saw but a few silly moments like escaping is possible but they just Don't bother to go threw open doors to escape.I know I certainly would.
The Acting is dry at times by the 2 American girls but is saved by the oriental guy and the Mad Doctor .This is not a classic but I can see this as the film that spawns a lot more films like it.There is a sequel already which seems doubt-fall after the outcome of the film.
It had its good moments.I can honestly say I have never seen a film like this but this is not as good as Passolins "Salo".Dont watch this film with young children or elderly relatives.
I give this film a pass and I will probably watch it again.B
