Benzin (2017)
Not so bad
I do believe there are better Bulagarian actors than Kalin Vrachanski, Snejana Makaveeva and, especially, the awful Liliana Stanailova, who has problems pronouncing half of the alphabet. Excluding their bad acting, the movie is not so bad. The scenario is a little bit chaotic and vapid, but there is enough action, so you won't get bored.
Voevoda (2017)
A masterpiece! The real truth!
Reading the reviews, I feel ashamed of the people who voted with 1. Believe me, no other person could vote like this for a Bulgarian movie, but a Bulgarian. I am sure these people will give 4 or 5 or even 10 to shitty movies like xXx or Avengers. So pity! Voevoda is a great movie, following real events. And yes, the truth could be unpleasant, especially when you are a Bulgarian citizen, but not a real Bulgarian. This movie is a reverence to all the brave women, who were fighting for Bulgarian liberation. If you noticed the script at the end - most of them were rebellion leaders, not just order-takers. Not surprised all bad comments are written by men. I feel really sorry for those who didn't get the idea and for those who got it but sexism made them write those comments. It is a movie every real Bulgarian must see. And yes, you will cry at the end. But only at the end, because during the movie you could not, you will stay stunned. There is a plot and there is a story line which is very easily followed. It is so realistic, breathtaking and heartbreaking, so nobody cares about insignificant camera issues or the exact speech percentage. And yes, the story represents the real truth. Nikolay Haytov was an author famous with making huge researches of people, places and stories before writing.
Levski (2015)
Great movie for one of the greatest!
The movie is one of the best I've seen lately. It concerns one the greatest persons not only in Bulgarian, but in world history. One of the Ottomans, who sentenced Vasil Levski to death said: "This man hasn't lived to die, he dies to live!" And he lives and will live forever! The film financing was mostly from donations. Bulgarians all over the world were collecting money for over 3 years so the movie could become reality. The story is based on pure history (except 2-3 scenes Hollywood western style), that's why it may not be liked in Turkey, Greece, Serbia and Macedonia, for example, but this is the truth and no one can deny it. All these countries were against Bulgaria, despite the fact that Bulgarian voluntaries were participating in Greek, Serbian and Macedonian liberation wars against Ottomans. There was a campaign against the movie and his creator, Mr. Maxim Genchev, paid by some NGOs in Bulgaria. That's why I am sure that even some people that haven't watch the movie voted for it with 1 or 2. Which is so pity! Not surprised the bad reviews are written by non- Bulgarians.
Viktoria (2014)
A total waste of almost 3 hours of my life
This is one of the stupidest and ugliest movies I've seen within the last 5 years and I feel very sad and ashamed of the fact it was produced in my country. I am not surprised it won some awards in USA. This guys are willing to give everything when they find even the smallest piece of anti-communist propaganda. I thought Bulgarian movie-making has already passed the time of that kind of cheap propaganda. The story is thin and meaningless and could be told in 10 min. It might be interesting to your friends or to your shrink, Mrs. Vitkova, but you have no right to torture the audience for 3 hours with it. Regarding the actors, almost all of them were excellent, especially Anastasia Ingilizova and Mariana Krumova, who were perfect as always. But why, the hell, did you think that your nieces Kalina and especially Daria had anything to do with acting? Not to mention that it was a real challenge for me and my friends (all natives from Bulgaria) to understand Daria talking in... Bulgarian. This child doesn't need a movie-shooting, she needs a medical treatment for her nose, her third tonsil or whatever her problem is. She can hardly speak and cannot close her mouth entirely, because she cannot breath through her nose at all. (But that's not the reason she is a bad actress, of course.) And in the end there was this scene with the totally naked dead grandma. It was ugly, awful and humiliating. You said, Mrs. Vitkova, that you based the film on what happened in your life. In this regard I have a question for you: Did you really hate your grandma so much, so you made this scene so disrespectful? During the whole film you tried to convince us that you cared for her, you began to love her... Please do not try to justify yourself with the intent of showing the Caesar scar. It could be done with some art contrivances, not porn ones.
