Lady Bird (2017)
i'm gonna be brief with this
I do like Saoirse Ronan a lot,... so i opted to sit through this. but what a slow and boring story. i'm sure anyone can dig up some teenage memories and beat this by a mile. in a film where Ronan had to carry most of the load on her own she did just ok, portraying quite an average (by all means) character trying to break free of her Catholic Sacramento background. on odds with her mother, regrets and predictable ending. why the hype about this film, - i really don't know. personally, i think she looked just great in How I Live now in a more compelling and moving story. this was average
Red White & Blue (2010)
Saved by the final 40 minutes
heard a lot about it and finally watched it. well, you know, horror fans are the greatest, aren't they!?? nothing can stop them from getting their hands on some of the rarest items around. not a horror film, however, more of a revenge drama - this picture is almost disappointing through it's opening hour, but the very same time you start wondering "when is this thing gonna get going?", it suddenly turns into a pretty strong story, with meaningful dialogues and some bloody scenes . you have to judge it for yourself. on the downside i must complain about the poor acting by Marc Senter and a very strange choice for a background score, irritating even. all saved by phenomenal performance courtesy of Noah Taylor.
Ang-ma-reul bo-at-da (2010)
I Saw Better
with all the hype surrounding this release i do feel like sharing some of the thoughts on I Saw The Devil. expectations where high and i ended up a bit disappointed. as it is common with the Asian horror/thriller films there are long pauses in-between actual meaningful action. besides, this film is way too long anyway, so i've been loosing my attention a few times. the "evil" hero is "sick" (Min-sik Choi) beyond any belief and the length at which the "good" hero (portrayed by Byung-Hun Lee) is willing to go to exact his revenge is quite unbelievable too. now, i do have to say that this picture does have a genius twist when the "evil" one decides to strike back and with some venom too. this only deserves a huge credit. also there's plenty of gore and torture and beyond all I Saw The Devil features amazing double murder scene in the moving cab. don't miss it. however, this production is nowhere near the South Korean greats like Memories of Murder and The Chaser.
Vanishing on 7th Street (2010)
filmed in a hurry on a low budget
well, it's hard to slap this film because Brad Anderson is one of my favorite directors. Before watching Vanishing on 7th Street i've heard an interview with the director and he went on to explain that the crew didn't have enough time and money to realize the ideas they had had for this picture, so the final product that appeared on the screen is the sort of a bargain. which is a pity. i believe they should have shelved it until better times. the way it came out is a waste of time and money. so don't bother. and yes, acting is bad and Hayden Christensen is extremely annoying, same goes for the kid in the film. Instead, watch Session 9 which is Anderson's well forgotten classics. Interestingly, the director himself compared these two titles saying that Vanishing on 7th street reminds him of Session 9. The interview can be found somewhere on IMDb
RocknRolla (2008)
Ritchie lost it
well, this is my first review on IMDb, and i have to say i'm forced to do it after seeing RocknRolla. you may ask what took me so long? some time ago i decided to stay away from Ritchie's films and then after reading one of the reviews here saying that Ritchie is back ...i sort of gave it a try. so, where should i start? we all know that Butler can't act, director's style and priorities haven't changed a bit and the annoying dialogs are still there. how can you keep making the same sort of story over and over again? it is naive to say the least. and also....is it utterly impossible to find a pair a Russian speaking actors in UK? overall a big disappointment. it's as if Ritchie can't move on and is still stuck in his glory days
