I love Live
30 September 2021
My goodness. I thought I saw it all. All the zombies, horror and so on. But this one takes the cake. Why? I really don't know. I suspect I fell in love with Live. Why? I again really don't know. She has a kind of humor I like. She reminds me of a colleague of mine. She reminds me of a girl I knew when I was younger, a lot. But let's cut the crap and tell you why you have to watch this. It's uplifting. The scenery and surroundings are lovely. Norway, been there, want to go back now. Live can act, my, what an actress! But the other characters are also lovely in their own way. Recently I bought a 'relax-chair'. Now my idea of heaven is sitting in this chair and watching 'No one dies in Skarnes'. So please, more series, my stay in heaven must be a lot longer, please! Live and let die. Something like that. When this review doesn't look much like English language, sorry, but I'm Dutch. Live, je bent het einde! And this is the end also.

Incredible

Ricky deserves the Noble peace price. What an increadibly funny and gripping series. I almost exploded when the dog saved him. This series made me speechless. What incredible actors. I can say no more. Now a little Dutch: briljant, geniaal. Back to British: must see. At least every year for the rest of your life. Even if you're 93. Makes you a better human being.

Want to live in a Lewis-world
24 April 2017
Every time a new series of 'Lewis' appeared, my better half and I watched the lot from the beginning. A lovely way to get very acquainted with the actors, the humor, the stories and the music. From the pilot ('I used to row a bit') tot the end (with the LEWIS card just as in the pilot) it is a delight to watch. I never will understand people who think that on first viewing of a detective they saw it all. It's so multi-layered: first the crime, and when you digested that you can just enjoy the way it is made, the beautiful surroundings, the music, the humor, and last bus not least: the friendship. My god, how wonderful this is. When we watched the last episode my wife told me that she saw a tear in my eye. She was right.

Top Gear (2002–2022)
Excellent

I don't like cars. If our Skoda starts and brings me from a to b that's enough. But boy, do I like this show! And my wife and daughter like it too, and they also are not interested in cars. It's just the personalities, the perfect blend, the wit, the outspokenness of the tall guy, so to speak. And, after having seen the episode about the disabled soldiers (who only tried to make it better for the people in Afghanistan) who are to embark on the Dakar rally, I am really stunned. It even brings tears to my eyes. How emphatic are the presenters, how nice the guests (Bob Geldoff, Rowan Atkinson, for example). And every episode is almost a complete movie, funny, slick, exciting. I remember the Winter Olympics, some scenes made me rofl... Anyway, If you feel down, watch this show. Uplifting, really. I hope the guys will go on forever and ever. I might even begin to like cars...

No words

When you go to London to stand on the Hammersmith bridge to have your photo taken, when you are in London to search for the Habitat store in Tottenham Court Road to find the 'Habitat knife', when underground in Londen and always having an urge to call 'Philip!', yes, then this series has made a tremendous impact. The adventures of the Singing Detective are unforgettable. On all levels, that is. In the hospital, with Mr Hall and his 'Nurse!', with the beautiful nurse Mills, the girl in all the songs! Even when I think of the death of Ali, when Philip is crying, I feel my eyes getting wet. This is a must-see. It looks slow, but it will completely absorb you. Dennis Potter is my hero! And The Singing Detective is the best. 'Into each life some rain must fall', is one of the songs. So be it. But let it rain, we have The Singing Detective!

Marvellous!

It's such a shame I live in Holland. I bought the first, Dutch subtitled, series here, but where's the rest? When they arrive here, I'm sure to buy them all. Yes, sometimes I see the series on the BBC, but without subtitles you miss the subtleties.

So now to the first series. I still have a little inside laugh when I think about the talks with the soliciting team members in the pilot-episode. I have a little inside weep when I see the old copper talking to his deceased wife. And what a wonderful woman is the boss! If all women were like she is, there would be no glass ceiling (if you know what I mean, or is it a Dutch expression).

They can act, boy, can they all act. Why young actors, when this lot is still going strong? I'm not yet their ages, but it is quite reassuring that there is so much life in the old guys! Conclusion: I will keep looking for the series here in Holland, subtitled and all, and I very much want to thank the BBC for bringing so much quality and joy in the best series I've ever seen. In a word, its most 'uplifting'. A real medicine.

Rebus (2000–2004)

Very absorbing
30 August 2010
It's very interesting what can be done in about one hour. I just watched an episode and I could relate completely with Rebus. I don't understand why the other reviews are so average. I taped (DVD-d) a lot of episodes and I watch them over and over. The music is also very good. And Siobhan is a very nice lady. Sometimes I feel sorry for her, with Rebus as a colleague, but in the end she always takes his side. When this is written in awful English, sorry, but the Rebus episode I just saw made such an impact I rushed to register on IMDb to let the world know I think Rebus and Siobhan are the best! Rebus doesn't seem to have any personal life, he can be compared to Jack Frost, I would like to see them as a team, maybe a writer can think of an episode with the two of them? Be creative!
