The Menu (2022)
To some extent, "the menu" can be considered a single location film. Because most of the scenes of this movie are narrated in its compact and small restaurant.
The strong point of this movie is its script because it follows a completely new story line and is far from most of the clichés of today's cinema. This spectacular and unpredictable film is a dark and violent comedy in the horror genre
The Menu movie has a thoughtful story that wants to look at many people today from a meaningful angle. But the movie doesn't go any way to the end and this is the biggest flaw that prevents The Menu from becoming a great movie.
The narrative structure of The Menu is slow from the beginning of the film, and the reason for this is not the script. The reason for the slow structure of the film is the brilliant performance of Ralph Fiennes, who creates memorable scenes for the viewer. He has played this role so well that he has become the Slovak chef.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham (2023)
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham begins with the discovery of a doomed cruise and from there it moves at a high speed... maybe a little too fast...
There's a lot of content crammed into Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham's eighty-eight minutes, and it constantly feels like the animation is rushing its narrative, jumping from set piece to set piece. And it spends little time on backstories or explanations. If the animation Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham was going on in the basic storyline of the franchise, this would not be a big problem; Everyone knows at least the basics about Gotham's prominent citizens and their motivations.
In this animation, although we have characters with similar names, they are not the same famous characters. Some, like Harvey Dent, have roles similar to the original timeline. Others, like Dick Grayson and Kirk Langstrom, play completely different roles. Another group like Oliver Queen falls somewhere in between the two categories. Oliver Queen is not the famous Green Arrow, but he is especially skilled in using the bow and other medieval weapons. Likewise, Barbara Gordon is still Oracle, but in a different way.
Without knowing more than how these versions of the characters came about, they seem detached from the story. Some of the smaller characters are also used more like a narrative device than a character. These characters appear, cause something to happen or have something happen to them, and then disappear within minutes. It's like using Danny Trejo or Eric Roberts in a movie for five minutes.
The same can be said about the sect and legends related to them.
In the end, I can say that this time, the animation of Batman is different from other animations of this character, in the end, it will be a B-movie that is worth watching. Maybe the aim of this animation was not something like that, but it cannot be said that this is a very bad thing.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Operation Fortune is a clichéd version of the spy movie genre, thinking that it can achieve solid results by simply ticking off a checklist.
But this formula, although entertaining, is a complete mistake.
A film that knows how to structure itself and gets where it wants by almost mastering the entertainment exercise. It knows how to be a deeply British American film, a James Bond and Mission Impossible-style spy thriller with clichéd one-liners for a clichéd hero like Jason Statham; And with a director who coordinates all the talents well. So from a normal point of view the film is a simple pleasure for any viewer looking to be entertained, but maybe that is the reason for its commercial failure.
"Operation Fortune" is based on a bland and outdated movie. Undoubtedly, this film is Ritchie and Statham's answer to the stylish and glamorous James Bond films before the Daniel Craig era and the recent Mission Impossible series; Only with a lower budget, but with a higher dose of humor. This movie does not have a script worthy of attention, nor is the level of action and performance of a blockbuster movie. The only really positive aspect of the film is that it doesn't take itself too seriously, which keeps one's expectations from it at a reasonable level.
The Amazing Maurice (2022)
This animation is funny, exciting, captivating, entertaining and informative, but very Stereotype.
The main characters of this cartoon are very funny, the design of the characters and the decor of the scenes, along with the sound of different parts and animation music, will be very attractive for all audiences, regardless of their age. Children will enjoy watching the talking orange cat, and parents and adult audiences will be entertained by the adventures and of course the wit of the amazing Morris troupe.
"The Amazing Maurice" animation has a lot of charm and like Ratatouille animation, it shows lovely mice. But it must be said that this work could not know its viewer well.
Although the animation of "The Amazing Morris" is not amazing enough, it is still a fun and interesting work.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
I can boldly say that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is one of those works that managed to appear better than its first version.
Puss in Boots tells a story that you don't need to be a thirty-two-year-old like me and have seen all of Shrek to understand. This animation is an independent film and tells its own story.
The story intended for the new adventure of Puss in Boots is not a cliché story and introduces us to new characters, the flagship of which is the character of the wolf.
The wolf enters the story just as we have seen a long sequence of Puss in Boots' bravery and skilful battle with a gigantic giant minutes before its imposing and terrifying appearance. The hero's fear of this newly arrived negative character and the soundtrack that is played during the entrance of the wolf have joined hands to introduce this completely new character to us in a twenty-something-year-old franchise. He is a character that the hero is afraid of and is actually a personification of death.
Dealing with the category of "death" in an animation is a difficult task, and we can safely say that a studio like Pixar has been able to enter this issue with great skill. Works like Coco and Soul beautifully displayed the phenomenon of death and scrutinized it. In Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, however, the issue comes back to the "fear of death". Puss in Boots is now afraid of death and no longer jumps into the water.
The rhythm and tempo of the Puss in Boots 2 animation goes so that we can see an additional scene in the least moment. The makers took advantage of the second-by-second visuals they provided, and many of their jokes and comedies are hidden in the background of the sequences. In this case, it can be claimed that in many action scenes, the audience should pay attention to the image and understand several things at the same time, and this issue makes the audience have a good sense of the animation.
"But the best feature of Puss in Boots 2 animation, in my opinion, I can boldly say that it is one of those works that was able to appear better than its first version. This improvement is clearly visible both in terms of the story and screenplay, and in terms of character development. And the characters we meet during the animation.
Wednesday (2022)
The combination of the script and Jenna Ortega has made a wonderful Wednesday!
Over the course of the series' eight episodes, we see Ortega give us a special Wednesday that we know and love. In fact, we see acquaintances who love darkness, independence, cold humor and sharpness. And, he can also show a lot of fun and "unseen" abilities: archery, fencing, cello, different languages, puzzle solving, etc. This version of Wednesday Adams also features psychic visions that add to the series' supernatural ties and gothic feel.
In fact, thanks to Tim Burton's direction in the first four episodes (and Danny Elfman's music), Wednesday's Gothic style is pure. But in the second half of the series, the tone of the gothic comedy takes a back seat and the mystery theme eventually becomes more of the main text of the series. So maybe this change of tone from Tim Burton to other directors is not interesting, but still the series has a good coherence.
Just stop watching the show through Tim Burton's lens and instead see it as a teenage mystery drama with a gothic twist, and everything still makes sense and appeals.
(And this integrity is due to Burton's fine design in the first half of the series.)
In my opinion, this work has 2 flaws:
1. In this series, we see a teenage drama with another stereotypical love triangle.
2. There are moments of the series that do not offer anything exciting, both technically and visually. In my opinion, the reason for this problem is the absence of Tim Burton in all the episodes.
Scream (2022)
In terms of entertainment, Scream is not necessarily a masterpiece, but an acceptable and good work.
Two big flaws of this movie compared to the previous series
1. An important problem, and I can claim that the first problem is related to the trivial and excessive love conversations with each other. After an extremely exciting introduction that gives us an adrenaline rush, the film enters a series of sequences that are both sleep-inducing and useless.
In some sequences, it bores the viewer in a strange way. In general, the form of the film was based on the fact that after a fight and a fight sequence, several sequences containing dialogues that are more important than the eyes should be exchanged. Until the viewer wants to adapt himself to the thrills caused by the killer's arrests, everything enters the drama and dialogue phase at once.
2. Many jokes about the film are introduced through the dialogue channel, and the screenwriters, while paying tribute to the important works of cinema, wanted the viewer to remember other works while watching the film. Although at the beginning of the film, hearing the names of the films and joking with these works gives us a good feeling, from one point of the story onwards, we wish that this procedure would end sooner; Because excessive speech makes the viewer tired and in fact this model of jokes and references to movies is wasted.
But:
One of the attractions of the fifth Scream movie can be considered the presence of the regular star of the movie, New Campbell in the role of Sidney Prescott. Although the audience unfamiliar with this series will not get any special feeling from watching Campbell's acting, if you have followed the previous films of the series, you will be delighted with Campbell's presence in the story. Especially since he and David Arquette in the role of Dovey Riley bear part of the burden of the story.
In terms of entertainment, Scream is not necessarily a masterpiece, but an acceptable and good work. Its duration is not so long and boring, nor are the murders repetitive and soulless. On the other hand, as mentioned, the original spirit of the Scream series is also well felt in the fifth sequel of this story.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Guillermo del Toro takes back Pinocchio from the fascist ideology
Del Toro does something incredibly important and beautiful with his Pinocchio: reclaiming this legend from both the fascists and the 1940s Disney executives. His film resists the ideological approach to Pinocchio and penetrates deep into history. Pinocchio comes to life during World War II and is exploited by various tyrannical forces to do whatever they want. To them, being a boy, or a real human in general, means following orders.
Del Toro's adaptation breaks down the traditional morality of the story of Pinocchio and pulls out a more complex and beautiful meaning from it. Anyone who says this anime isn't suitable for children doesn't take children seriously as human beings. Del Toro's Pinocchio is a rich, beautiful and thought-provoking animation for all ages and can mean a "real", moral, decent and lovable person to everyone.
Under the Shadow (2016)
My social analysis of the movie under the shadow
More than being against Iran and the Islamic Republic, the film is against a kind of tradition in our society. The events take place in an apartment where all are tenants of Mr. Ebrahimi, Mr. Ebrahimi's wife is submissive to her husband. There are two other men in this building. One is an old man who has a stroke at the very beginning of the movie, and the other is Iraj. The main character of the story is Shideh. The government stops Shideh from studying, and after a little conversation with his wife, it becomes clear that Iraj also has no desire to study Shideh. He also has the same traditional view that it is better for Shideh to think about raising a child and maybe this is a good thing in their life. If we think of the apartment as a symbol of society as a whole, we are dealing with a completely patriarchal society. A society that does not give any rights to women. Mr. Ebrahimi locks the door every night to protect his community and insinuates that there is a ruling view in this patriarchal view that should exist. When the door is left unlocked one night, he blames Shideh. When Iraj asks why do you think Shideh was negligent, he answers in a very clichéd and natural way that she is the only woman in the building who drives. On the other hand, Iraj, the educated man of the building, also wants Shideh to go to his family in the north because he has to take care of himself or Darsa. Shideh, who is in front of this ruling view, considers herself capable of running without a man. When the men in the building are gone, the Kurdish girl leaves the apartment and the old mother goes to Paris with her son (another man). It's a bit annoying to look at one way and I wish there was another man to break this unipolar atmosphere. Now let's take a look at the other ideology of the film so that we can have a general summary of the ideology governing the film with this paragraph.
In the building, the only family that wears a hijab and is considered a believer is the Ebrahimi family. The same ruling family whose house owner has not decided to fight and is not a fair house owner from the eyes of the neighbors and complains about late rents from another stereotypical point of view. His wife is Chadari and she is the only person who believes in jinn based on the Quran and talks about it to Shideh. On the other hand, the whole building is the same color and the owner of the house is different from others. The family believes that the one who plans to run away sooner, otherwise the girl will go to bury her father, the mother will stay as long as the men are there, and Shideh will not leave the house until the end. Believers are depicted as having a traditional view and are considered superstitious by Shideh and others, even they do not behave well with that orphan boy in their home. Shideh is not willing to give up until the end, but the patriarchal and traditional look that the film has seen in our society is completely black, like Bakhtak. When Shideh wants to leave the house, Ibrahimi's wife pulls Shideh's hand and tells the genie that when he grabs a person and takes something from him, he will not let go. This ruling view has such an effect that the only resistant survivor finally breaks in front of this patriarchal view and goes to the north to the man's family (completely against his will). Shideh wanted to study medicine because her deceased mother wished that. He wrote this in one of his books that the genie takes from the drawer for Shideh and the book flips and this is shown. The doll is recovered, but the wish and desires are blown away. Even the doll that comes back and is female is in pieces and the glue doesn't work. Again, the patriarchal view and ideology is that the rule of this society is patriarchal and women in it submit to the demands of men.
Smile (2022)
Good start and disappointing end, some scenes were scary
I can say that it was a better movie compared to the horror movies of the past few years.
The script and music, which are two important pillars of horror movies, were almost good but not great. It tries very hard to instill the feeling of fear into the viewer from the beginning of the movie, and the person looks at the sequences with stress and everyone is afraid of what will happen next, which is a positive point, but I can't say that they did it 100% successfully, at least for me.
(Of course, I must say that I am a very strict person in the horror genre and maybe it will be a great movie for other friends who do not agree with me).
It would have been better if the narration and depth of the story had been worked more methodically, and of course it could have had a much better ending than this
In my opinion, it could have been one of the scariest films in the history of cinema, which did not achieve this success, but at least it was better than the weak films of the past few years.
It is recommended for lovers of the horror genre...
Average movie
great music
Good lighting
Good horror scenes
There is no blood or bleeding
The dialogues were really great
Weakness: only the ending can be guessed.
Teheran Tabu (2017)
A WONDERFUL social drama film
A wonderful social drama film (animation) that explains the truths of life in Tehran and Islamic Republic of IRAN as a whole.
It shows well the problems: social, political, economic and gender differences in Islamic Republic of Iran well.
The director and writer were of the problems inside ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN and the great city of TEHRAN and were able to show these problems well.
I really enjoyed watching this Movie (animation) even though was really nervous to see so many problems.
I am sure that all Iranian's and learn about the problems of ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN.
I hope you enjoy it too.
