The X Files (1998)
Summary of the unexplainable
A short review. It wasn't bad. Actually I liked it very much. But it wasn't more than a simple X-Files episode with the exception that it took 120 minutes. It was exciting, couldn't be disappointed in the creators work. What the most I like was that finally they concluded the muddled "black cancer/death" and "corn and bees plus unexplainable virus". By the way it still doesn't clear for me.
I have only one season the finish the series, then planning to watch it again at nights. Hope finally I can understand these X-Files type things. Still remained the last movie. Everybody has bad opinions on it. Will be curies if they are true.
The L Word (2004)
Longing Loving Lusting
Firstly somebody said that "The L Word" was a bad title. I don't understand. In my opinion this is one of the best titles ever. It's so original and unique that nobody can take the shine out of it in the near future. You never can find another title which is only made up of one word. L. Secondly it was the weirdest series I have ever seen.
After having watched the first episode, I was in just bad opinions and didn't intend to continue it. But as the time went by something moved in me which got me to watch the second episode. I didn't like it either but some reason why I continued it. And after the second season it was still on my blacklist, and I couldn't understand why I insisted to it as much. There was something in it which made me stick to the show. But from the third season it was my favorite. I had my best characters - Jenny, Alice, Dana - and felt that I couldn't stop watching, I had to meet them everyday.
The most interesting thing in this show is that they kicked over every rule of the story-lines, made characters appear, disappear without any explanation. They didn't insist to the opened episodes, they continued the next one with a brand-new story. It was like they were playing a game with us. For ex. Helena was the evil in the second season, but in the third one she was everybody's best friend. What? She was so cruel to the girls! And everybody likes her? Yes. With no explanation. And the show was filled with things like this.
The only thing which made me disappointed was the last episode. I felt the final season the best one: in the opening episode - Jenny is dead! My favorite Jenny. The story continues 3 months before, after the opening theme. We have to wait a lot. Every episode begins with the same monologue - every character says "I'm gonna kill you Jenny." Which makes us suspicious that who will kill Jenny. And in the final episode I prepared myself that Jenny is gonna die. And she died. But how? The creators give about 3 minutes to her death. We didn't have enough time to feel sorrow for her. Like nothing would have happened. The characters hadn't got enough time to mourn for her either, because they got off the police cars and begin to pose to the cameras in happiness, including the "dead" Jenny too. It would have been a good ending. But what about Jenny? What about Jenny? They ruined her perfect character. Maybe I can find it out after watching it for the second time. Because I will. I have already ordered the whole series. Cannot wait to hold them in my hands. that's it. A unique show. L.
United States of Tara (2009)
I cannot believe it's over. I cannot.
Again. Such an unbelievable fact that my brain cannot accept. This series is better and better by episodes after episodes, seasons after seasons, weeks after weeks. And suddenly it's announced that it's over? The last episode will air on June 20. I really could cry that I have to loose this show. I think I'll do after the finale. Nowadays it's so hard to find a good series which can complete your imaginary world. Instead of the up-to-date shows on TV, I only watch series which have already been over. United States of Tara is the only I'm following. And I'm just shocked with its cancellation's announcement. I cannot believe it's over. I cannot.
Carnivàle (2003)
making perfect art works messed up
This show is the perfect example of making an excellent, fantastic 10- year-work messed up to the end. And it makes me very disappointed like every other fans. The first season was absolutely perfect from the first moments to the lasts. The story, the characters, the atmosphere were so original that I have never seen before. It enchanted me from the first seconds of the pilot episode, and in addition the opening sequence was brilliant too. We can experience the HBO's profession on Carnivale. But why did they cancel a six-season-plan short by four season? We had just only two.
And the second season was as troubled that I could not understand anything indeed. They wanted to crush the other four-season-story into one. What a big mistake! They crap this brilliant and very original show up.
The first season - as I have already said - was perfect. Every single moment from the story was professionally made and we could be in a fever that what would come next. Having watched every episode I always have a big question in my head, and wanted to see the next one. For the first time I could not "make friends" with these abstract characters because they were so original and special that I have never seen before in TV- shows. But after some episodes I had already had my bests. I don't know why but this sandy and scenic atmosphere always make me feel relaxed and would like to continue the story. I think that the most interesting and exciting part was the true identity of the mysterious Management.
I can write many things about this show - but I think a won't, because it is such a comprehensive, complicated and original show that it cannot be assayed in a review. It must have more respect I think, because it is an amazing work that Daniel Knauf - the creator - has made. And makes me very depressed that his intended work is canceled.
I had my only problems with the final season which I didn't understand at all. It wasn't clear for me that who is the Good and Evil. Who is really Ben Hawkins, Justin Crowe and Henry Scudder. It was so confused because they couldn't tell the story as they wanted to.
I am very sad when great works are gone. Like the TV-show "Dollhouse" which has a five-year plan, and just two seasons were made too. I believe that producers must put the quality forward and needn't mess up perfect plans. But fortunately it is not very typical to HBO.
The Ring (2002)
why is it scary?
There are no words with which I can describe this movie. Maybe "amazing" or "brilliant". The Ring is an absolutely perfect film about the "invisible" which makes you scared. I think it has had a part in the movie-history with its innovation after the bloody horrors and own atmosphere which is the most depressing I have ever seen. Because you're afraid of something you cannot see.
I was just 12 when I saw it the first time - everybody spoke about this film, how scary it is, and that it's a story about a tape which kills you when you watch it - and it was a memorable day for me. I had thought I would be afraid of it, but then I wouldn't. It was something else. With its blue-green hues and fantastic music has ever composed to a thriller, I just felt sadness and depress. And yeah, it was scary in an other way. But not in the word's normal meaning. It created such a kind of atmosphere that no movies have ever did and I think they won't. That's why it is a perfect creation. And this film is gonna be the movie like the X-Files which everybody saw and made them scared in their childhood.
Having watched it I heard that it's a remake and years later I watched the original version. But I realized I don't care it's a remake. Who cares? The Ring is an excellent movie and to tell you the truth I didn't find the original film good. It was very different than the American version. It wasn't bad but the director understands the message in an other way than The Ring's. And Ringu is also based on a novel so it can be announced as a "remake" too. Two film, two messages.
The most interesting thing about The Ring is that actually you cannot explain what you afraid of. Are you afraid of a tape? A simple object? Ridiculous. But it is the truth. A tape makes you scared. With its disturbing pictures, noises, sounds and elements. I think that this short movie is a kind of art work. Fantastic how the director can transform everyday happenings into disturbing elements. It could have won an Oscar.
I like the actors playing. I think David Dorfman acts very well as a child, and I don't think we have to discuss anything about Naomi Watts. She is perfect too. Nothing overacting. And when I watched it years later when I became older I found another message about The Ring.
I found it sad. It is a sad story. A mother kills her daughter. Why? Because the horses bear themselves nervous? That's not enough. It is a sad story because a mum cannot stand her kid and she feels the only way to be quit of is death. And then she commits suicide. A series of deaths. Because of a little girl. Lots of unexplainable happenings. And with them I've told almost nothing about the movie.
And why is it scary? I have no answer. Complicated, original, unexplainable, brilliant. The Ring itself is the answer.
Passengers (2008)
In the Heaven
Nice. Moving. Sad. Harrowing. These are the words which comes to my mind when I think of Passengers. I do not understand the low ratings, the displeasure that everybody feels about this movie. Why? What is the problem? When I began to watch this film I understand the slow story- line and I prepare for a classic drama but it wasn't. The last part if the movie was so touching with the story, the characters, the amazing acting and the brilliance music that it made me cry despite I am a boy. I always cry when I hear that music and see the last scenes. I don't care what anybody thinks about this.
The movie is excellent. Rodrigo García is a great director who has so good movies like HBO's original series. Carnivale's pilot episode was as brilliant as it could be made. Nothing problem with his work. The actors are also fantastic and the story .. no words with which I can describe it. Much more than amazing. Because actually nothing interesting happens but it has a very important message. Some passengers very last thoughts before having death. They forgive people, who make them sad, for ever. Discuss problems what they never could with their loves. And it was just their own ideas. The movie itself was just an idea of some people before death. What would you do if you know you have just only seconds from you life? What would you think about? This is the message. I think this is the message the director wanted to give us.
Death is always an interesting part in everybody's life. Because this is what we cannot avoid. Everything ends at one time. And we can see a story about people who have lost everything. They lost their life. And I don't know why but at the very last scene when Eric told Claire that she is dead too, I felt a bizarre thing. A felt they have passed through a hard thing like death which everybody is afraid of. They don't have to be afraid of death anymore. They are all free.
Pathology (2008)
what is guilt?
When I first watched the theatrical trailer for this film before the premier, the promo made me very curious to see Pathology. But actually I watched it two years later. And I felt a very strong contrast between my old fancies and the actual atmosphere of the movie. I got something else the promo made me to think of. But not in the negative meaning.
I liked Pathology indeed. It was full of gruesome images which can make some people feel sick - the autopsies are effective made like they're real. And the creators have made a huge risk when they mixed these disgusting elements with sexuality. Because they are each others big oppositions. But I think it can be "digested", and it would be a big mistake to miss watching this film. Despite having low ratings I think a beginner director made a good film. It can be announced perfect movie for a beginner. He shows such a bizarre thing like pathology in a more bizarre way. Young medics play a very dangerous game to reveal who is the best of them. Who can commit the perfect murder and who can solve the cause of death.
The protagonist, Ted Grey, takes part in this game but when he realizes his friend on the dissection table, he has to be clear with the situation: he cannot exit the game. He killed a dying man, and his friend, Jake, told him a very interesting theory of guilt. Which exposes the message of Pathology. About the views of guilt, and why they play this game.
I do not genre it a horror film, except the last scene which I think was the perfect part and frame of the movie. It was horrible indeed. And it is worthy to watch the cast list because the movie is just finished in the middle of it. It is a strong thriller with very graphic and bloody elements, present the anatomy of the human body. I liked the blue-hues which makes more depressing and gloomy the movie itself.
I don't think it is suitable for everyone, but except the graphic themes it has a very important message which not can be understood by everybody.
I Know Who Killed Me (2007)
sometimes the worst is the best
OK. I think that I am the only who think this movie is fantastic. I wanted to watch it because I found the title interesting but queer. And I wanted to watch Lindsay Lohan playing in a scary movie. I think everybody's problem with this film is that it is a kind of lashed- together movie. It looks like the creators felt confused the story-line, and they did not want to spend any time to make it perfect and understandable. Therefore it has a lot of holes and black spots which could not be clear for everyone but who wants to know them.
The movie and the story themselves are very original. It is classed as a horror film but it's not. It does have violent and brutal elements but the attention isn't focused on them. This is just a little part of it. And not the most essential. The emotions do build up this film. A dreamy, young writers emotions.
I like the red-blue contrast, which symbolize many things during the whole movie. Between Aubrey and Dakota. I like very much their sharp oppositions. And yes - somewhere I read this - Lindsay was the only who understand this movie and her character/characters. She plays fantastic. She does not care anything, just jumps into these girls' bodies and enjoys acting.
I watched it the second time when I felt again this empty feeling, caused by the black-spots it has. I think if I hadn't been so impatient to understand it I could have found out the answer, the message by myself. But of course it can just be a theory. My theory. And I think these films are the best which make you thinking after having watched. And the answer is your choice.
**-- MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS --**
It is a sad story. Not sad indeed. Tragic. A young girls imaginations while being tortured to death. Aubrey loves writing stories, and made Dakota Moss - an identical twin sister, who helps her when she needs. And in this case she needed help. She was alone, and somebody - whose identity she never found out - was torturing her. She just imagined how Dakota rescues her, and supposed that her killer is the piano teacher because of the blue-razors. But what about the gardener guy? Who is he? Why did he get a part in this story. He actually "did not do anything". But I think he did so. He is the actual killer, but Aubrey never could see his dark face. Before having kidnapped Aubrey saw the gardener guy, and she hid behind a tree. He was there. And what about the anticipations Dakota had? She saw everywhere a dark man who followed her. And the police? They read her story on the notebook, where everything which happened to Dakota had already been written. It is not a science fiction where the girl know the future from the first time. And I feel this movie a kind of drama, not a horror.
Aubrey had never found out her real killer. The whole movie was her story, like a fairy tale in blue and red with blood and pain. Her last story she wanted to tell which I think she told as beautiful as she could. Then finally when the two halves found each other in her heart, Aubrey passed away from this world for ever. And her story can have the title "I Know Who Killed Me".
