Black Summer (2019)
First few episodes are painful
The first few episodes of this season were dreadfully painful. The characters are weak, shallow, and are in no way relatable. The rest of the episodes were tolerable but just barely. Won't be watching season 2 if it is renewed.
The Mule (2018)
Awful!
20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Normally I will soldier through a bad movie but this was just terrible.
The Punisher (2017)
Blown. Away.
We just got into Netflix a few months ago and I had heard that The Punisher was good but I put it off because, seriously? How could a Marvel superhero television show be? Wow, was I wrong. Bernthal OWNED that role. Blown away by not only his, but the rest of the cast's performances. Direction was SUPERB. Bravo!
Grave (2016)
What did I just watch??
Seriously, what the .... did I just watch? I should have known Raw was going to be bad simply because the critics loved it. IMDb used to be a place to go to get the real scoop as to whether or not a film is decent or not, but over the last year or two that has changed. This film was beyond awful; no rhyme or reason for anything portrayed here - just violence and gore for the shock value of the acts committed, I suppose. Quite possibly one of the worst movies I've ever watched.
The Atoning (2017)
Would have had a better time watching paint dry
Seriously. The story was so slow, it was painful. The acting was decent here and there but dreadful otherwise. There were elements to the storyline that were intriguing but execution failed miserably. The creatures were spooky until you were presented with them face on. Some things are better left to the imagination. I don't know how this scored a 6.1 on IMDb. Don't waste your time.
Lights Out (2016)
Overrated to say the least
Oh where, oh where have the decent horror movies gone?
Given that one of my deepest inner fears is total and complete darkness, I thought that this film would be better given the 6.4 score. Generally, horror films are rated a bit low on IMDb. I've found anything rated over 5.9 to be a pretty decent. Not the case here.
There was no suspense, palpable or otherwise. In fact the entire movie was anticlimactic. The dialogue was dreary. The direction was sub-par in my opinion. Very predictable, which is disappointing because the premise of the story was a promising one. Instead of getting some good genuine suspense and scares dished out to me, I ended up sitting on the couch with one eye on the TV and the other downloading apps on my new phone. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.
On the plus side, fairly decent performance by Teresa Palmer. Glad I didn't waste a trip to the theater for this one. My opinion? Don't bother.
Consumed (2015)
Brilliant!!
Don't pay attention to the 1 star reviews. This movie was RIVETING. I only started hearing about GMOs a few years ago. I am a big believer in natural remedies and in whole body health. I started doing research, as research is my forte in the work that I do for a living. I strive to keep an open mind, think outside of the box, and I consider the source of everything that I read in order to form conclusions. The biggest conclusion that I reached on the topic of GMO food safety is that while the companies who are patenting this technology CLAIM that the food is safe, there is absolutely NO research that proves the safety of consuming these modified organisms that are present in nearly everything that we consume. I was interested in seeing this movie in the theaters but it was unavailable in my area. I purchased the film when it became available in streaming format. That was about 2 months ago. To be honest, I was not expecting very much from the movie. The reason that I purchased it was more out of support for the whole "getting the word out" to the public to question what they are told and to do their own research. I finally sat down to watch the film today. IMHO, the movie was riveting. I was glued to my seat. It was very well acted and directed. The facts presented (in a fictional manner) were spot on to what is happening in the industry today. If you're curious, watch it. When you watch it, you will have questions and you will want answers. Do your own research. Think critically.
Godzilla (2014)
I guess you can't expect TOO much from a Godzilla film
When I looked up this film on IMDb, the ratings (2k of them) were at 9.1 stars. I watched the trailer and was floored. My husband and I dedicated date night this week to seeing the film on opening night. Meh.
Unfortunately, the really great scenes were all compressed into the trailer. I was disappointed. This could have been a much better film with some changes in the storyline. They did a fabulous job with Godzilla - visually stunning. Bryan Cranston was spot on and very convincing.
The film was fairly decent overall, but definitely one of the better "Godzilla" films. If you're a Godzilla aficionado, I'd say definitely go to see it, but if not, you might want to wait for it to come out on DVD.
