Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Awesome Movie - Very Entertaining- 10 Stars!
James Franco was great in his role. He really sells you on his character, and you forget that he's an actor and rather can just watch him as his role in the movie. This movie was very entertaining and worth your time.
This movie brings a lot of elements out. It has some emotional parts to it. It is actually rather easy to empathize with the main monkey. You have to view the ape as the main character of the movie though. It's very easy to understand why the monkey acts the way he does. He has this one pose where he's in between a crouch and standing with his arms crossed and he's either looking down or straight ahead, and it's very sinister and awesome. I couldn't stop laughing throughout the movie as I found monkeys (I am skipping this part of the review as to not give spoilers).
If you've made it too my review than your not completely convinced you want to see the movie but you haven't completely blown it off either. My advice is to see it, you will not be disappointed. I am sorry if I did not give a great review but I am trying very hard to hold myself from giving out SPOILERs but I really wanted to rate it 10 out of 10. I'm ready to pre-order the movie already, I found it so entertaining.
This movie is very creative, and the CGI was very well done. Tom Felton is lucky to be in this film as unlike Harry Potter movies you could actually watch this more than once.
Green Lantern (2011)
Awesome movie
Don't rely on the comic book nerds reviews of this movie. Most of you like me, have heard of green lantern at one time in your life but have no idea what his story is. Ryan Reynolds was way better than expecting in this action adventure. While he might not be as funny as some of his other roles he does have his moments and he doesn't disappoint. This movie is visually appealing, and while the 3D might not be Avatar amazing it does make the movie look more like an HD image. Also there are parts you will definitely enjoy in theater just because of the 3D.
Blake Lively is amazingly beautiful in her role. She shows she can handle herself on the big screen and after everyone sees this movie, you'll be wishing you could "handle" her.
With all the various elements of the movie you can't see it without liking at least some aspects of the movie. Although I thought the movie was awesome, blowing out the other recent movies such as Xmen: FIrst Class.
This movie is career defining for Ryan Reynolds. It shows that he can play multiple different roles and is a far better actor then people give him credit. His character Hal Jordan is bad-ass to begin with and thats before he gets a hold of the ring. This movie will really entertain your kids, excite your girlfriend, and just have you thinking man this guy is lucky. Stop reading reviews, go see the movie and write your own review because you are going to love this movie! There are honestly parts where you just want to rewind and play again because they were so awesome.
Hidden Palms (2007)
What's the big secret? Find out for yourself
You have the new kid in the city, Johnny who falls for the girl thats sure to bring nothing but trouble,Greta, and a next door neighbor that is manipulative. The first half of the first episode is hard to get through because your convinced that its an OC gone wrong.
After getting through the base story you begin to see the twists and turns including a suicide that might not be a suicide, an event that binds the Greta and Cliff into secrecy, and somehow the one that was killed in sending Johnny instant messages. Is he really dead? Is someone playing tricks on him? Or is there a lot more to the story that you need to see for yourself?
It's available on netflix streaming and it's sure to draw you in. So if you have nothing else to watch you might as well check it out. It's a mystery how this show never made it through the first season.
This show didn't get enough exposure so no one knew about it which led to it's demise but it has secrets that just get deeper and deeper. As more and more members of the community get involved you'll find it hard to stop watching. Your not only going to want to watch this show but you will want to join efforts to get it back on the air to see what happens next.
The magnificent Amber Heard is amazing. She's seductive, spontaneous, and makes the whole show worth watching.
The Nine Lives of Chloe King (2011)
There's a new cat on the block
Skyler Samuels has a big future ahead of her. As she is on ABC family their shouldn't be as much pressure for ratings so she can just have fun with it and get her career rolling. What's cooler to watch than someone kicking ass and taking names? A good looking girl kicking ass with today's CGI handy work.
She's like cat woman as a teenager but with a new spin. If you liked any of the vampire/werewolf TV shows as of recently your sure to enjoy this show. Especially with today's DVR technology you owe it to yourself to record this and next time you decide your bored and don't know what to do turn it on.
Teen Wolf (2011)
Finally a show with werewolves and not vampires
There are 3 main reasons to like this show. The first is that it is on in the summer, previews don't spoil episodes because they tend to take lines out of context and lastly almost all the actors are new fresh actors. The fresh actors really help the show out because your not thinking about their last role when your watching the show.
It brings other appealing elements out as well including, blood lust, sex, twists. Its finally a show on MTV that isn't a reality show. One thing that will help the show about it being on MTV is that they play it all through the week and there are constant re-runs and marathons to catch you up or show you the episode you missed. With all the showings, and the decent storyline it will allow a fan base to keep growing.
The bottom line is that this show will bring out your imagination and inspire creativity as you wonder what will come on the next episode of Teen wolf.
Shameless (2011)
Is it shameful to like shameless
When I first heard about this show, I was unimpressed and didn't really care to see it. I didn't even care much for the first episode although there were parts that had me completely stunned by how far some things were taken.
Fiona is a strong young woman in her early 20's who basically takes care of all her siblings (There are a bunch of them) because her dad, Frank is a drunk f**k up. Frank continuously hurts everyone around him just so he can continue his lifestyle of drinking and drugs. Each episode has a main dilemma as well as several little issues for each individual character.
Dexter (2006)
The best show on television
This show is hands down the best show ever. I have made it my own personal mission to ensure that all my friends and even friends of family members are exposed to this show. I started from the second season and me and my college roommates were hooked instantly. Whereas me an my roommates would fight here and there and didn't always get along, this show brought us together. We watched every episode together and would actually set times for everyone to be back at the apartment ready to watch an episode. Every single person I have introduced to this show has loved it and borrowed all the seasons from me on DVD to catch up.
The show is about Dexter a forensics blood splatter analyst who is also a serial killer with a moral code created by his father. Dexter lacks basic human emotions and has trouble connecting to others but is able to disguise it very well to those closest to him. After all he has the best hiding spot, hidden in plain sight. Very few can see through his act and with each passing season he gains a little more humanity and character development.
You'll wonder if it's okay to be rooting for a serial killer as he kills a rapist or another serial killer. The show is based off a book series but the book and show go in different directions from the same starting point. If you've read the book, you don't have to worry about knowing what happens next. This show is a guilty pleasure that will have you screaming for some more.
You'll love Dexter. Your mother will love Dexter. Your father will love Dexter. Don't just watch Dexter, share it with everyone you know.
Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011)
If you enjoy close range weapon combat than you'll love spartacus
The show is very entertaining and an interesting portrayal of Ancient Rome. There is a lot of sex and a lot fighting. Everybody is always plotting something and it is interesting to watch everyone's schemes unfold. Unfortunately as a prequel we know certain things such as who will rise, who definitely won't die and other events that are bound to happen. Even if you haven't seen Blood and Sand, it unfortunately gives a fairly detailed flash back to the first season. Unfortunately it lacks Andy Whitfield who undoubtedly made Spartacus: Blood and Sand what it was. There is full nudity in it so you may want to keep it away from the kids. I recommend this show because as most shows on premium channels there is no censorship. If you don't have Starz or even if you lack a cable or satellite provider it is available on Netflix on-line streaming usually within 24 hours of its Friday showing.
I Am Number Four (2011)
If you like science fiction, you'll wish you were number five
If your looking for a movie to take a date on, something to see with your buds or even off to the movies alone this is the movie to see. It is filled with special effects with a nice production value. The girl is gorgeous, and there is even a guy that acts like such a prick that you wish you could punch him yourself. The flick has the perfect combination of action, special effects and romance. If a TV show were to use this amount of special effects in just one season of a sci-fi show they would be able to capture the entire sci-fi/fantasy fan base. It was what people always wanted to see in Heroes but NBC could never deliver. You may be thinking that you'll just wait for this to reach DVD/on demand but you want to see this in theaters for one major reason. So they'll make enough in the box office to make the sequels. The movie doesn't jump through different time lines and is easy to follow and the main character will have you wondering what it would be like to have special powers regardless of your age. As everyone knows though it's not really about how good the movie was, it's about if you would watch it a second time? Yeah this would definitely be something you could sit through twice and make an excellent addition to your blu-ray collection when it comes out.
Heroes (2006)
Network doomed the show to fail
Heroes while starting out slow drew people in and used a lot of character development to create a quality super hero show. The first two seasons had their flaws but were overall entertaining to the point that viewers would endure the crappy seasons and have hope for a hero to make the show better. Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Zachary Quinto, Ali Larter, and James Kyson-Lee were all amazing until the writers killed the show.
I believe Hiro Nakamura was part of the reason for failure. If there was no time travel in the show they wouldn't be able to fix every thing they did wrong. Not to mention the several takes on what changing the past could do to the future or as some refer to as "The Butterfly Effect". Another thing is people desired to see more powers. I always wanted to see more special effects. Especially with how one of the seasons ended. There was supposedly some big fight at the end of season 3 but nothing was showed. I always hoped for at least a flashback to that fight but it was cheap budgeting like this that killed the show.
They made mistakes with Peter's dad as he was way too powerful but they realized that and changed the show. I believe these constant changes of where the show was going in combination with lack of special effects is what lost the viewers. They showed at one point a future Claire in all black leather with black hair but that person was never actually created even though everyone wanted that. This futuristic Claire was hot, mysterious and bad ass. She alone may have saved the show but instead you let her become sappy. NBC has to learn who their audience's demographic is. Ignore kids for prime time shows because kids will watch anything. Every time the overall theme of the show changed, viewers were left behind in the old themes. In the end the show seemed to shift towards a younger audience and the PG feel of it killed off the remaining viewers. The lesson to be learned by NBC is keep your audiences separate. Let kids shows air in the morning and prime time shows actually draw on their audience. Give more special effects. While it may look like a waste of money, i can almost guarantee its more profitable than canceling and starting from scratch every time 5 episodes air of a new show.
In my eyes NBC still hasn't redeemed there-selves for killing Heroes. "The Event" was awful, "The Cape" lacks substance, "Chuck" while it has potential is starting to have the lame feeling that heroes had in the end. "Undercovers" was canceled pre-maturely. You should have changed the time slot to a Friday because there was an appeal to some it just wasn't utilized properly. If your reading this review, I recommend watching ABC's "V". Its full of special effects and the underlying theme remains the same. Strong characters, a bunch of twists and mysteries surrounding all the main characters.
