Jack Ryan (2018–2023)

Season 1 and 3 are 8/10, season 2 is 5/10
16 January 2023
Like many other reviews I find season 1 to be very good, entertaining, engaging and hook you so that you just want to keep watching the next episode. Season 2 lost all that magic and I had a hard time completing it. I finished season 2 feeling that I just had to to see I'd wear other reviews said about season 2 were all true, and they were. I had my doubts with season 3 but I think it got back to its roots. The story is once again engaging and get you hooked from the beginning. If you like season 1 and disappointed by season 2, I strongly recommend you give season 3 a try and I think you will like it.

Human characters ruined this movie
15 June 2019
Unclear motivations, underdeveloped characters, illogical choices, etc. anything wrong choice that could be made by those humans were made by them. While watching this film I just want to see those main characters dead so we could get on with the real movie.

Hilarious, fun, sad and utter most satisfaction
28 April 2019
I went to watch this film with high hopes and it did not disappoint me. It has the usual Marvel humor but at the same time the seriousness as plot calls for it.

I'm not an emotional person and rarely cried watching a film but this one put tears into my eyes. It is by far one of the best superhero films.

Not that bad but also not fantastic either
24 March 2019
The trailer did not entice much interest in this movie for me so I wasn't planning to watch it. However, I felt that this movie might help with my understanding of Endgame so I went anyways. The movie has the usual Marvel elements, not too serious, funny, etc. The plot was simple and not that particular outstanding for an origins story. Everything was exactly what I expected.

The biggest problem I have with this film was the actress. Brie Larson did not have the character or feel of a superhero lead. I personally think Charlize Theron would be a better choice. Brie's acting was also lacking too. There were some emotional moments but her acting during those moments fell far behind other supporting casts.

This movie isn't as bad as some of the reviews claim at the same time certainly not as good as what those critics think either.

The Predator (2018)
7/10
The best Predator film yet
16 September 2018
I'm not sure where all the hate comes from. This film is a solid action/sci-fi film and I truly enjoyed it throughout. The film has good pace so I feel engaged the entire film. Sure there are some holes and sudden plot twists that may seem like coming out of nowhere but those are things that I expect to see in an action/sci-fi where I do not expect to have a meticulous plot. I hope it does well in the box office to get a sequel going.

I'm mainly writing this review so that this title does not get flooded by all those 1s and 2s from people who loved the original and cursing this film to not follow the plot of the original and subsequent sequels. I only evaluate this film based on if it is enjoyable with good action sequence and likable characters.

It has a good amount of humor and some good action sequence. Yes I second that some of the combat scenes with the hunter Predator is unbelievable since the original film it took a team of highly trained elite force to take on the ordinary Predator. Yet that kind of ordinary Predator gets defeated by the hunter Predator like a 5 year old kid vs an adult.

I think this film is worth going into the movie theater to watch. But, ultimately, the decision is yours.

Alpha (II) (2018)

Exactly what I expected, though it could've been better
26 August 2018
I went to watch Alpha because I'm a dog lover. With two dogs as my own kids, I was looking forward to experience the bonding between the first human and our best friend. But I was disappointed. The movie itself had good cinematography except when it was showing the blizzard, which accounted more close to half of the time. The story itself could've been a little more logical. They could not have survived the kind of environment they found themselves in. Though I loved seeing the wolf turned into a trusted companion but the story telling and character development were both lacking thus the movie did not have as strong of an emotional attachment as I thought it would.

The Meg (2018)
6/10
Everything you would expect from a shark movie
12 August 2018
The Meg is not bad, it definitely isn't great but it isn't bad either. I go into the movie theater with certain expectations depending on the type of the movie I'm about to watch. The Meg certainly is just a shark action film so I went to the theater fully aware of what I expected to see.

I think the film has good cinematography sequences, some jumpy moments, great pacing. In fact I thought I'd feel bored at times with this kind of movies but I didn't feel that at all with the Meg.

Overall I think it is entertaining. Is it worth your money to watch in a theater? Maybe if you watch it in IMAX 3D. Otherwise, I'd wait for it to become available via stream.

Watch it on stream rather than going to a theater

Warning: Spoilers
I liked Jurassic World even though I think the plot was a little silly and people made all sorts of illogical decisions but it was nevertheless an entertaining movie.

Fallen Kingdom is worse in every aspects compared to its predecessor.

The escape from the island part was more entertaining than the rest of the movie, which pretty much goes into a nose dive from there on.

There were a lot of illogical plot settings for the sole purpose of setting up the story to move forward. The giant dinosaur in the lake that escaped from the gate in the very beginning of the film for example. How do people in their right mind to even build a gate for a theme park lake. What were they thinking?

Also, after the events in Jurassic World, I'm surprised the island is not in a complete government military lockdown, making the scenario where a group of mercenaries go in to take whatever they need far less likely.

Overall I think this is a somewhat entertaining film but probably not worth your time and money to watch in a therater.

Annihilation (I) (2018)

Not as good as the critics make you believe
1 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I think Annihilation has good potential based on the story it is trying to tell but in reality this film is much worse than what you may believe.

The plot itself has many holes in it that I could hardly take it with any kind of seriousness. Yes, the highly trained group of military personnel all failed inside the shimmering thus you send a group of scientists, the least capable people in there to investigate? Are you kidding me with this kind of settings? Is that the best the government could come up with?

When I go watch a sci-fi I expect it to be reasonable and logical. If I just want to watch a horror film then yes I can go easy on the plot holes but Annihilation clearly isn't such film.

I cannot believe how bad this film is
4 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I had high hopes of Alien: Covenant because I actually thought Prometheus was a pretty decent movie. However, after watching Alien: Covenant, I kept asking myself why was this movie made.

Let me start with the basics. A film tells a story with a set of presumptions. It could be totally out there where logic and reason do not apply, where you could defy the laws of physics. If that's where Alien: Covenant positions itself then it is all fine. But it clearly isn't the case. Covenant tries to be a little more philosophical from the very beginning when David asks Mr. Weyland about his creator. If that's the route the Covenant wants to take then it needs to take this route seriously, but it did not.

We have a spaceship with a crew on a colonial mission to some distant planet. These characters, the crew, is so out of the place and their decision making process makes it a miracle that they were selected for this mission.

They decided to go out of their way to visit an unknown planet, they decided to send most of their crew on a surface mission on this uncharted territory, they decided to go out of their landing vehicles without a full spacesuit, or even a face mask to ensure they are not exposed to any unknown microscopic biological agents floating in the air, they leave one person on their landing vehicle to guard it and that person clearly left the door wide open even after given a direct order to follow "proper security procedures and lock the door" by the captain, they carried their crew member back without any quarantine procedures. I could go on and on but you get the idea.

Maybe the colonial missions are so common place that they could just pick the random volunteers off of the street and send them in. Even if that is true, you do not just put unqualified people onto a routine mission, not to mention that the colonial mission does not seem to be routine at all.

They are many other illogical plot holes in the story later on. Those characters in this film keep making the most stupid decision whenever they have as if they want to get themselves killed.

Overall, I felt extremely disappointed with this film and am not looking forward to the 3rd installment since Ridley Scott mentioned that this is a new trilogy starting with Prometheus.
