Suspects (2014)
Excellent
I happened across this program by chance. I'm hooked. Really like everything about it. The twists, turns and out of left field investigations and revelations. Even the shaky camerawork (which is purposeful) gives it an edge. Only 3 episodes in and can't wait to watch more. Just sorry I missed first time around. Love Faye Ripley' character. The 2 supporting detectives are excellent playing off one another, whilst still relying on each other. Overall good series. Hoping it has legs to carry on as good. Sometimes success can change the production and writing, seriously hope that isn't the case here!
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Next Generation is back!
Wow. 2 episodes left and I'm nostalgic. THIS IS THE STAR TREK WE LOVE. Picard, Riker, Geordi, Beverly, Worf, Data & Deanna. Just need Wesley now!
This is what mage The Next Generation special. This family, working together to save the galaxy. Adding in the newbies from previous seasons and you've got a recipe for greatness. This is what it should have been from Season 1. Throw in Q, the Borg....great. But the original crew, Wow. Can't wait for last 2 episodes and just hope we see them off in a better way than the films. A fitting end is needed for them, just like Indiana Jones' final film this year.
MAKE IT SO!
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Fitting tribute
As a marvel fan, was intrigued how they would handle Chadwick passing. Delicate and with much love. Everyone was invested in making this film a poignant and respectful legacy to the man himself. Genuine emotions on set must have been difficult, but it showed the true feelings of the cast and it showed in their performance. Some scenes were so real emotionally, that they put their hearts on the line. Truly fitting tribute and you felt Chadwick could have been overseeing it all. Marvel scores a winner, without too much action. End credits scene was out of character for marvel, but again true to The Real Black Panther.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Missed opportunities and descent into obscurity
First of all, I hate SPOILERS! Beware, I have to mention some to get my point across.
A Fair film, that could have been great or even superb...if not for the delving into the supernatural demonic ruins of Sam Raimi.
I suppose it should have been expected with his reputation, but thought Marvel would have kept it safer for younger ones.
Great Cameos and storyline were just wiped away by throwing the Demons and Walking Dead into the mix....isn't there enough of that in other films already.
If the last third of film had played out differently, then this would have been a success....but no way did it EVER get close to the spectacle or greatness of No Way Home.
Morbius (2022)
Oh dear.
Bad script, bad plot. Disjointed and waste of talent of Jared Leto. Matt Smith is way out of depth. Ending didn't make sense unless you wanted to use character again, dohhhh Spiderverse of course!
Why didn't he kill himself like he was intending too. How did she live again...pathetic.
Earthstorm (2006)
Lacks quality
Enjoyed this, even though the special effects were very basic. Good plot, not well executed. Needs a big studio to makeover? Bit too scientific and less easy to understand. Good main characters, with good casting. Great to see Dirk Benedict again and played to his strengths. Stephen Baldwin was a tad too wooden and lacked true interest. Would've suggested the obvious love interest was unneeded.
Robot Overlords (2014)
Oh dear
How desperate were these well known stars. Very basic story, mediocre special effects and dodgy acting. Really poor. However, there was some decent acting in between the bad from the main lead male.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Barely acceptable
Sorry. Kung Fu not my thing. Action sequences too fast to keep up with, end battle too busy and fast to keep track of who where doing what?
If you didn't have an idea of the connections with the rings, then would be lost as to how this fits with Marvel at all....except for mid credits trailer.
For me, below par, too busy and mediocre at best.
Ava (2020)
Boring
Lasted all of 2 minutes. Nothing to grab your attention and slow.
The 2nd (2020)
Boring
Watched 5 minutes and gave up. Terrible acting, bad camerawork and awful scenics.
Stargirl (2020)
Teenage Fun
This is not meant for Adults!!!
Purely for the Early Teens. Came with Warnings on Amazon, which were totally unfounded for drugs, foul language and violence. Comic book type violence only. Was a good yarn for kids tv.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Great....why all the swearing
Seriously. Can nobody make a film or series without continually using the F#*K word. This would have been just as entertaining for a younger audience!
Rim of the World (2019)
Kids?
It is a film for kids....but the language doesn't allow it to reach the necessary audience. Few scares throughout which will get younger ones upset and blood is freely seen flying.
See You Yesterday (2019)
A bit all over the place.
Good concept. Bad language unnecessary.
Slow start, but overall ok.
Iron Fist (2017)
Improving
Season 2 has really upped it's game...and it needed too. Lot more interesting and better action. Roll on season 3
Instinct (2018)
Amateur
Good premise, but very predictable and slow. Seems very amateurish and basic. No excitement. Just watched episode 3 and no way on earth the slip of a woman could take down a 20ish year old man.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
On par with Batman Begins - But that's all!
Didn't think this film lived up to the hype surrounding it. It was good, don't get me wrong but it didn't compare with the Dark Knight. Seemed too full of action and definitely violence, which obscured the story somewhat. However Christian Bale played a blinder again and he has definitely made the role his and his alone. Nobody would be able to compare to him. The ending was again a bit rushed and didn't really come as any surprise, and again this let down the overall film. Sets up another series, which would have to be exceptional to compare. But overall a let down and not a fitting end to this franchise. Let's hope the Man Of Steel (another DC offering) will strengthen the comic lines takings as the Green Lantern certainly didn't. Sorry, the Avengers will be the box office topper this year!
X: First Class (2011)
A Class Of It's Own!
Brilliant, Entertaining, Engaging. A Start of something that needed to be told. A Cameo from a familiar face and some great interactions. Slight inconsistencies with the other films and x-men origins, but nothing that really spoils the Film. Great Fun, Slightly more violent than previous and one use of BAD LANGUAGE THAT ISN'T NEEDED!! But top notch otherwise. Has the appeal of the old fans, but will rope in a whole new breed. Marvel keeps on rolling and with rumours Patrick & Ian are up for 2 new films, more to come hopefully! There must be another film at least in this series! Great to see a Young Brit face in the cast as well.(No Bonus clips at end!!)
Thor (2011)
Spectacular
Absolutely stunning FX. The whole story and characters were brought vividly to life. Slight change to the original Comic book, but nothing at all lost in translation. 3D was totally unnecessary and gave me a headache. Roll on Cap and the Avengers!!!!!!!! Hemsworth, brought the cockiness out excellently. Hiddleston was eerily compelling to see and Hopkins, well, there's no one quite like him to bring Odin to life. In case their is anyone worried about the Religious overtones - don't be. It is quite clearly set out that Asgard is a realm, along with Earth being another part of this realm, that we all inhabit and that their mythology is how the Vikings saw them - not that they are deities in any form!
