The League of Gentlemen Are Behind You (2006)
What a shame...
What a shame that this once excellent comedy ensemble have lowered themselves to this cheap pantomime humour. The beauty of the Gents is the atmosphere the TV show creates but in this DVD, it's just some silly jokes on a huge stage. As if the film wasn't bad enough, they had to sell out even more and embarrass themselves again. It's a shame that some excellent gems of British comedy go this way. Why on earth did they feel the need to do this. I am a huge fan of the series but this is so disappointing. I'm really not sure if there is any way of them redeeming themselves.
R.I.P The League of Gents
Saw II (2005)
Once again, No.
If everything that's wrong in film today could be summed up in 90mins, Saw II achieved it. The first one was one of the worst films of all time and the second one isn't much better. If you enjoy meaningless violence (which I'm not against) then go and see it. As long as there is a good enough plot then fair enough but there wasn't in this film. This film has been 'Hollywood-ised' and I'm sick of hearing the line, 'I want to play a game' in every serial killer film in the past couple of years. How did the cancer patient killer get a giant safe amongst other(also erect metal bars across the doors) things into the house when he can barely walk? Or was it the skinny junkie that did all of that? Ridiculous characters, especially the latino muscle man who was so badly acted and unbelievably realistic. The horror genre is dead and until someone reinvents it, our generation will dumbed by watching films such as this.Do you remember the days when films didn't need gigantic twists in the end to keep people satisfied?
The Skeleton Key (2005)
Papa Justify???
I'd like to see them (Papa) Justify this movie. I had no idea what this movie was about before I went to see it. I think it had an interesting concept and i think if the skeletal structure was taken and given to another writer and director it would have turned out better. I read one of the comments on this film and it said John Hurt was 'mesmorising'. He was not. He is an excellent actor but not in such a thankless role. The character of the lawyer was abit irritating and just slowed things down when he was in it. There was a scene at a petrol station where we met a family and it was left to think they'd be more heavily involved later in the film but no, nothing much came of it. Kate hudson's roommate in it was a bit pointless, the hip hop city girl who happened to know LOTS about 'Hoodoo'! I think it was Hollywood(ised) abit, even though we had a British director. The end really wasn't that fantastic and I wasn't 'stunned'. And nothing came of John Hurt's character which was built up so much. If you don't see it, then you've not missed much.
War of the Worlds (2005)
A series of explosions rather than a film
It was just that. Things blowing up for 2 hours and Tom Cruise running away the whole time. I was a bit disappointed when we actually got to see the aliens, they didn't look very good at all. It's funny in films like this, throughout the whole film you want to see the aliens but when you finally do, it makes the film worse. About 30 minutes before the end I was thinking, "THIS FILM ISN'T TOO BAD" but once I saw that AWFUL, AWFUL ending I thought it was a waste. Tim Robbins was undoubtedly the best actor in this film, just a shame he wasn't in it for long. I think the only decent thing I've seen Tom Cruise in is the RAIN MAN and I'm sticking by that even after seeing this. The special effects were good and at times I was thinking, this is what it would look like if we were invaded by aliens. Why can't the aliens win in films like these? They've always got some crap weakness that obliviates them all. Frustrating!
Spanglish (2004)
An interesting number
I am a fan of Adam Sandler and that is why I picked up a copy of Spanglish. When I started to watch it, for the first while I wondered, is Sandler in this? He plays a good character, as opposed to his 1 dimensional Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison characters. My first impression of the film was how disappointing tea leoni is. She is a very beautiful actress and I have enjoyed her in films such as The Family Man. She plays her character over the top and unrealistic. Paz Vega gave a strong and solid performance which was utterly convincing compared to Tea Leoni. Sandler and Leoni's kids seemed to vanish at some points, they had no real substance and didn't seem to make HUGE impacts on the plot. The film took a while to get going and at good point it was very good and then at the poorer points it became long and drawn out. The plot is interesting and credit for that goes to Vega and Sandler. At times I felt the film was a bit pointless and lacked conflict. I think it was because it was too long for the wafer thin plot it harvested. The comedy was also lacking but i thought that was fine but it came across on the back of the DVD box it was a hilarious film. The best Adam Sandler film to date, without a doubt, is Punch Drunk Love. I enjoyed the film somewhat but was incredibly let down by Leoni's disappointing performance.
The Rundown (2003)
Poor
I started watching this and I thought it might be good fun but how wrong was I...a stupid excuse to have Dwayne Johnson (for i refuse to call him the rock) to do wrestling moves and for sean william scott to repeat lines/noises from previous films.I used to like Sean but he always plays the same part in EVERY film. the only thing that made me smirk was a few comedy moments from christopher walken.why waste valuable money making poor films such as this? if people want brainless stupidity, watching monkeys slap another monkey(dwayne johnson) then watch this movie. but on the other hand if you seek a film with some depth and thought behind it, don't watch this.
Infested (2002)
Holy mother...
Holy mother...I have never seen this huge amount of crap crammed in2 one single movie.Boring, stupid characters. Bad cast. Why do people make these terrible movies and expect people 2 like them.I cant believe i wasted my time with this, terrible, terrible movie. What was the budget, 20 cent? Do not watch this film, i beg u, do not watch this rubbish film.
