Tamara (2005)
Evil is only a wardrobe away from good
The plot according to the makers:
Tamara, an unattractive girl, who is picked on by her peers returns after her death as a sexy seductress to exact revenge.
The real plot:
A hot girl wearing sloppy clothes is picked on by about everyone in her school, cause wearing sloppy clothes and looking at the floor a lot makes you a freak. After an unfortunate accident caused by very bad acting, she dies. The next day she's back with a whole new wardrobe, and any intelligence previously hinted at replaced by blood-lust and a wonder bra. She kills the people who were there when she died (reponsible or not, who cares) with bad special effects, all the while practicing on that evil look in your eyes that seems to elude so many grade B actors. And then it ends, and that's a good thing.
Things I learned from watching this movie:
- A single woman can easily kill two teenage boys coming after her with knives. This may seem unbelievable, but the woman crippled her feet first to make the fight seem fair. - If you're all powerful, better let clumsy teenage boys do the difficult parts for you. - The hospital is not a good place to get stabbed, cause there are no doctors there. - There are no ugly girls. Just very hot girls with poor choice in clothing (they still shave their legs and whiten their teeth, though)
28 Days Later... (2002)
It's all been done before
This story has been done so many times, it's hard to do something original with it. You could describe this movie as RESIDENT EVIL without the babes (& less action), and there are even more parallels with NIGHT OF THE COMET (which was much funnier).
The first half of 28 Days Later was okay (for the atmosphere), but the second half was just plain stupid.
25th Hour (2002)
A movie about so many things, they add up to nothing.
This movie is about so many things (or at least it tries to be), that it utterly fails. It's about remorse, paranoia, lust, greed, fear, racism, terrorism, ... but all in a belittling and moralising way. There are a few good scenes in it, but what's with all the WTC stuff? I guess I don't get it because I'm not a New Yorker (and not an American), but when they go for cheap emo-drama with yet some more references to the 9/11 attacks, that's really annoying. For me, the movie was a complete waste of time. There were no new or refreshing ideas in it, the soundtrack was irritating at times, I didn't feel connected to any of the characters, and it was a waste of talented actors.
