Cinema verite on drug addiction:
6 July 2010
I will use the words drug addiction, because this is the operative life style exposed in a overt representation on four beautiful human beings lost in hardcore drug addiction. I was disgusted seeing the first viewing; because I am a recovery addict. I have lived aspects of this life style, so I know the pain and suffering these individuals struggled with on a daily basis. Hustle for the drug; or give the drugs up. It is easier said than done. Most people are brainwashed to scapegoat drug addicts. This has been done for a long as demon drugs(cocaine/crack; heroine; speed) are viewed as the problem: once you try it you cant stop. This is a lie, and scientifically proved by many scientists. People are either prone towards addiction or they are not. If you were raised in a loving fashion by caring individuals, there is no way you will ensconce yourself in an existence of drug dependency; such as the brave characters filmed in this awesome movie. One may be genetically predisposed, but this is another fallacy. If you were loved and validated as the unique person you were in your formative years or ''upbringing'', it doesn't matter if you have those addictive genes, environmentally, you will not be drawn to this life style, and if you were; I believe there is a very slim chance you will be come a drug addict. Why would you want to abuse yourself and suffer. It makes no sense to an intelligent being! My theory is: if you studied those individuals depicted in this harrowing account of crack/heroine addiction, I'm certain you will find not one of those people were loved, validated, or acknowledged for who they were, while they were raised. If you look close, I'm certain you will find abuse to some degree unresolved; this is why they became addicts. Personal & societal dislocation with no psychosocial integration!

Look beyond the stereotype

If you peer honestly at this film, it depicts familial dysfunction, and the havoc it engenders in children; they are the innocent creatures that are damaged irrevocably. They say all you need is one person while you are raised who attunes to you lovingly and with empathy; thats all it takes. When you are abused at an early age, you will lack individuation and psychosocial integration. Perchance if you have children, whether you want to or not, you will pass this information on, that is stored in every cell of your body. Braking the generational abusive cycle requires more than knowledge it requires healing. Nick Stahl is a great actor, who gets better with age, using little to say so much. The child actor is decent too.

A great love story.......

based upon adolescent dreams: when things are simple; at least for this youth demographic. I found there was very little pretence and undue showmanship amongst the actors. The script is awesome, and the direction is great as well. Certainly the cast bought into the directors vision, because the film flowed quite lyrically. I took a chance on this director, because of several Six Feet Under episodes he directed;I truly loved that HBO production. Michael Cera, is a very fine young Canadian actor. I hope he continues to build upon his already impressive resume. I laughed a lot in this movie because it truly underscored the insipidity of the average human, who does dare to dream outside the constructs of their limited scope.

Wake up!

The truth is beholden, amidst all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. The sad part is that we are on the brink of global catastrophe, and though we haven't arrived there quite yet; it is soon. So why not make $ off of it in the process. Our hyper-capitalistic, free market system is still inculcating and disseminating lies & propaganda; we can survive the scourge. Moreover amidst this insanity we are told the word of God is giving more that taking. Why do we need Hollywood to tell us this simple truth. Could this very juggernaut instill other psychosocial integration, as opposed to dislocation? After watching the Road I was depressed, after watching the book of Eli, I believe there is still good, even if its co-opted by the very evil which created it. When I was younger watching apocalyptic films like Blade Runner, and Mad Max, I thought interesting projection & theory; presently its all just a dream!

What was that!

I'm not really sure what I saw because this film was a composite of so many different elements. This film was listed under the comedy section from my television video provider. I was unfamiliar with the director, but some of the critiques form IMDb I found interesting, so I gave it a shot. I really believe this director, has a lot of potential. There were some great mise-en-scene; especially the use of rapid fire editorial to punctuate. I was really impressed by the acting, the direction was good, and the script great as well. I laughed and cried, however what really irked me was a lack of cohesion between the disparate vignettes; at times I wondered who edited this movie...other than this pretty good, plus Robyn Hitchcock was involved with the sound track, and this is the first film I have ever see where he contributed. I have been listening to his music for 20 years!

Sincere acting

I liked this movie a lot, and I am a man. However I am not saying that men are insensitive, or incapable of absorbing a film thats directed toward, love, happiness & peace of mind. This is how I saw this film. I was totally turned off by the poster for this film, but seeing the high mean rating I decided begrudgingly to view it. You really cant judge a book by its cover, and a lot of the undercurrent of this film in my opinion is looking deeper within yourself & those in your life. I rarely cringed or winced due to excessive embarrassment from a horrendous script, the script was good, and directed well! Its a story with heart and only some mild cliché strewn into the pie mix. Jeremy Sisto is a great redneck and what can I say about Keri Russell I'm in love with her soul.
