Keanu (2016)

Way Better Than Anticipated

I went into this movie kind of green with Key and Peele. I seen a few of their sketches online and whatever popped on Facebook, but I didn't follow them like their usual fans. When I first heard about this movie I was intrigued. I've been to the Cat Video Film festivals and knew how fun cats can be to watch, so of course being the crazy cat lady that I am, I decided to give it a whirl. I expected most a few laughs and an easy way to spend my evening with the bf.

As the story opened up I was already blown away: drug lord? epic fight scene? a kitten on the run!? Then enter our two main protagonists: suburban nerds one of which is getting over a devastating break up, and the other who is as his wife says "too wound up and uptight". What unfolds as Keanu finds his way to one of their porches and adorably "meows" for help, is the set up for what will become the two cat hero's epic adventure for this fur ball, but also a journey on their own personal level where they learn to live a little and let loose.

I can honestly say the movie had everything; action, suspense, a little romance and tons of comedy. I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard at a movie (maybe Step Brothers?)And one thing I loved about this movie is that it wasn't too raunchy, if not at all. I'm not sure why this has to be a thing with some movies. Key and Peele have proved to me they have certified comedic chops without needed to lay on the sexual innuendo like so many other "comedy" movies do.

Also it is a bit of a head scratcher for me how this movie received bad reviews and makes me question if these are just trolls in general. This movie succeeds in breaking general stereotypes about black (lead) males in movies as well as cats in movies. Not all leads who are minorities are gangstas (although they wanna be'ed hilariously in here) and not all cats in movies are little jerks who just want to take over the world. Best part? Key and Peele actually toured animal shelters promoting adoption through this movie. What's not to love?

But the best thing about this movie? KEANU. You will fall in love, be warned. He certainly steals the shows and you will leave the theater wanting to go hug your fur baby, or even better, make you want to go adopt one.

This movie will become a cult classic and be on my repeat (watch) list for years to come.

True Grit? Truly Overrated

I consider myself a movie buff and have seen many a good western in my time . Sadly I feel this is not one of those movies . Instead of a long winded review, ill keep it brief. Bridges , you couldn't understand a damn thing that came out of his mouth. Brolin was on screen for the only ten good minutes of the film. Damon was laughable, and the girl had no character development so although her acting was good, her character was annoying. Now the story; you have the girl mouthing off the first half hour, then her and Bridges, and yes sometimes Damon frolicking across the desert for an hour and ten minutes. So that leaves about five minutes of the real story we've been waiting for. The ending leaves little or no closure. I found myself bored and restless during the movie. I also find myself wondering what drug everyone is on to find this movie so "amazing". Please save your money and go watch something else instead.
