The Gentlemen (2024)
8.4 stats? 4.8 is generous
Lame.
Guy Richie is very hit or miss.
This is a miss.
Starts well and then looses all imagination.
Very plastic characters and same old cast doing the same old parts with less enthusiasm each time they are rolled out. It sounds like they are reading of cards most of the time.
I still watched it and it was better than a lot of Netflix shows but the fact that it gets 8.4 on here seems rediculous... Hence having to write this review...
So if you are a fan of guy Richie style films I would rewatch Lock, stock and two smoking barrels or even The film The Gentlemen and save yourself a few hours of your life...
House of the Dragon (2022)
No character
Game of thrones was one of my favourite all time TV shows. It took me a while to try and watch it as I'm not into fantasy or fighting TV shows normally... but wow! What characters! What script writing! What a plot! It was such a package that it had me hooked by the end of the first few episodes.
House of dragon's characters are weak, uninteresting and shallow. The plot is equally poor. Most of it has all been told before and better in Game of thrones. There is no one that I care enough about for the outcome to matter at all.
This is a disappointing spin off that seems to be financially motivated.
Dark (2017)
What if there was no plot in the past present or future?
The past is the present and the present is the future and the future is the past... Infinitely linked and tied up in a loop blah blah blah...
Who cares. Alternate times and universes where nothing interesting happens.
Ps why does it rains birds that don't flock together?

The War of the Worlds (2019)
The bore of the world...
I wasn't a big fan of the Spielberg / Tom Cruise version but this is much worse! How can you take such a great story and make something so awful... Shame on whoever is responsible...

Les Misérables: Episode #1.3 (2019)
It's alright...
Yeah it's OK but I'm not a big fan of the two leads... I love Dom West in the wire and the affair but he is not Jean val Jean that I have in my head from the book. Bits are good and he plays a conflicted character ok but he just seems a bit game of thrones with his solemn northern accent.
Even more importantly David Oyelowo for me is rubbish as javert. I'm not sure if he bothered to read the book but the javert / Jean val Jean relationship (the main focus of the book) hinges around javert's ideas of wrong and right. For me javert should be in uniform and is the letter of the law and upstanding fighter of that system. Dave O plays the part like an East end gangster and seems to miss the point of the character of javert.
No it's not because he is black...
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Monotonous monotone monologues...
Some women are infertile. Some others aren't and are forced to have babies for them. And it's all a bit like a cult... Who cares... It's boring and the inner monologues are really annoying. The characters are mono dimensional and I don't care about them.I think I'll watch something else next week.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
Hollywood at its worst
The plot is spell ed out by the cast at every step so even the dumbest American can follow this ridiculous film. It is a poor mans De Vince Code and that was pretty weak in the first place.
It rewrites history in the way Hollywood loves to do.. to make a crappy lowest common denominator story with no regard to truth or the actual people involved in what really happened.
Nick Cage is the biggest sellout ever.. he was really great in Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart... but his recent films are some of the worst i have ever seen. His name on a film guarantees it is going to be awful...
