Grizzy and the Lemmings (2016)
Well made and fun, perfect for kids.
My 3yr old is bingewatching this on netflix for the 4th time and still regularly laughs out loud!
It has a clearly defined setting and characters, the animation style is distinct and the plots are simple, but effective. This all makes it easy to watch for young children, without it being 'dumbed down' or of less 'eshetic apeal' that so many modern cartoons display.
The fact that there are 78 episodes with basically the same 'Tom & Jerry'-like formula that nonetheless never feels repetative, is a testament to the ingeniuity of the creators.
The animation is quite good and sometimes pays a subtle hommage to classic cartoons.
This is a show that is well made, with attention to detail and it is clear the creators care for their characters and the world they live in.
It makes this a very enjoyable and rewatchable show, for children ánd their parents.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
The Good, The Bad or The Ugly?
Intelligent viewers tend to underrate this movie for lack of plot etc. You are right. Action viewers tend to overrate this movie for its FX. You are right. STUPID viewers think that the Matrix has the most stunning plot ever, and that anyone who doesn't agree with them, doesn't understand it. Read some books or get a life!
The matrix trilogy isn't about existential issues and other philosophical subjects, its about special-FX.
Think what you will. 6.8 out of 10.0
P.S. I thought the computerized Neo in the Smith action scene, was the worst visual effect I've ever seen. The makers can only justify this, if in Revolutions it turns out we're all really in a PS2 game!
The Matrix (1999)
A movie about FX
The more I watch this movie, the less I appreciate it.
The first time I watched it I was very impressed: the FX had hidden the rudimentary semi-intellectual plot from my eyes.
But now I know better. The matrix isn't about philosophy and stuff, it's about action and FX!!
8 out of 10
Zabriskie Point (1970)
Last of the hippie movies
I have to say that I love this movie very much. It is dated now, as it is a bit slow, so you have to take of your modern hollywood glasses. Good camerawork, as you can see when the plane swoops over the car, or the zoom on the old man at the bar inside when the girl is in the small town roadside cafe. The final scene is absolutely burned on my retina for all time: A girl is staring at a villa in the dessert when it suddenly blows up, the shot is repeated from several angles, and then the music sets in:Carefull with that axe Eugene by Pink Floyd (listed as 'come in nr 51 your number is up' on the soundtrack album). The shot of the exploding villa is shown again but now in slowmotion, as the tension builds up in the music, we see several objects blowing up: a book case, a fridge, a clothes rack etc.(this concept was later used in a fatboy slim videaoclip, so now you know where they stole it from) And then after the climax it suddenly stops and we see the girl again, getting in her car and riding into the sunset. What this movie is most famous for is its soundtrack. Incandecent guitar sounds by Gerry Garcia, hypnotysing hartbeats by Pink Floyd and old bluegrass and blues, if you see the soundtrack anywhere, buy it!
