Interesting.....
25 March 2024
According to other reviewers, it's probably good that I have a short term memory loss because I did see the first one and it's been quite a while since I watched it and I just finished watching the second one even though I got confused it held my attention. I thought the acting was phenomenal. I know they say they changed actors again. I don't remember that and that all is to my benefit because the film is really good, I was not quite sure what happened at the end so I looked it up and somehow it all came together so in short I was very impressed by the film the actors; -the whole deal so I'm not comparing it to the first one. I'm taking it on its own.

Why Tarantino?
14 January 2024
There have been several references to Tarantino regarding this movie. I don't think that it was intentional to follow the style of this Director. I think this man has his own style and for the movie taking place in the south and the way it was laid out I think he had a good handle on it, as far as the actors, nobody can fault John Malkovich for pretty much anything. Liam Hemsworth was a very pleasant surprise. He played this role straight down the line, and Vince Vaughan is getting more and more into the dark stuff, and I love him in that The romcom era was something he did and probably well but it's not where my interests lie & I think if you put the movie in context in place time and geography, it works quite well.

To be famous
26 December 2023
It is a rainy day after Christmas 2023 and I'm just sitting here flipping through my streaming devices and I noticed once upon a time in Hollywood and I realize that was something I wanted to see and never did so I started to watch it and I am flabbergasted I mean, this should be a movie for me. I'm a big fan of Quentin Tarantino past tense I should say And I am part of that generation that they are portraying in the movie I recognize the actors alluded to and the music etc. So imagine my surprise when I fell asleep literally after about 10-15 minutes starting into it! Began watching again -the same thing I know I'm not ill I guess what I'm saying is it was boring!!!! And that surprised me tremendously but truth be told that is how I took it great actors but misused I guess because I can't say anything great about Brad Pitt or Leo DiCaprio on this and I've seen a lot of good work on both their parts, so great Director with some great actors and not such a great film.

Hilarious
22 December 2023
Now that I know what Riley Stern's represents I could comment on this movie regarding his special touch of making one still not knowing that, and watching right from the beginning this movie, I knew it was going to be weird and monotone, and have much to say regardless and I look for movies like that it's sort of semi noir, but not really but it's not marvel and I don't want marvel. I want movies that I can watch with some sort of interpretation and that's left up to me and that's why I do recommend this movie. I enjoyed it in this "sick" way very much. I'd also like to add that I'm a big fan of Aaron paul and no not because of his TV series. I barely watched that he's a character actor and we don't have too many of those anymore.

Lacking catchphrases and loud noises
4 November 2023
I've watched this film twice now over a span of years. It's slow moving in someways, but it's also very captivating. I did not lose interest the first time nor the second I think the acting was very good. Obviously the scenery is not meant to be scenic it's a backdrop to the whole story, but I really don't understand all the bad reviews Michael Fassbender with all his other problems is still a very good actor he played the role the way it should've been played I believe I think the whole thing comes down to This is not a 2024 Marvel fireworks , this is exactly what you see while pondering it as it progresses. What am I missing? I see no problem with that.

My hometown and it's eccentricities
2 November 2023
As soon as it first started, I was looking at the New York City that I know and love, and the way the people interrelate there. I personally miss that so much but talking about the film it exemplifies it they talk philosophies they talk in vocabularies that maybe they don't even understand so much.

But it flows and emotions come out I personally do not like marvel films, and big boom movies with no plot. This movie definitely has a plot, but it is not a clear line plot. It's a plot that maneuvers like a river, but it has the themes of love disappointment insecurities and the acting was done well this is not lead actors showing off their attractiveness they were not gorgeous but they were more real because of it. It's just a really interesting movie to see. And yes, the scenery of New York City is quite marvelous.

Another yawn, summer action flick
12 August 2023
We've always had summer movies, but once upon a time we had movies that had a plot, some serious acting, and an interesting ending now -not just in summer, but most of the year we get to see marvel type movies, if not marvel themselves with lots of action and noise, and Flickering of images but acting? No plot? Barely yes sort of one but boring many times the point is is that people still want to go to the movies to be enthralled and not just by sound and flickering pictures we need actors with oomph maybe plenty of them out there but they're not getting the roles? As far as Gal Gadot is concerned, very beautiful woman moves quickly, but I do not know if she can act. I have never seen her in something that takes acting chops. Can we get onboard at least with some films that accomplish this? Last, but certainly not least and I think it's the first time I actually paid attention because it was so bad was the music score to this movie it was terrible.

Not the same, but could be either nearly as good good or better!
20 July 2023
I always say I grew up with the Beatles and I did but in my later years, somehow I grew up with Raylan givens!! I was so disappointed when they pulled it off I was glad at least later on they made some sort of an ending and now we have them back and the first episode I was like oh I don't know, but by the second one I can see the potential Timothy Olyphant still has it strong and he's got a good supporting cast. The villain is very villainous and charming at the same time. The cops that work with him in the Detroit PD are what you would expect strong characters and very much like Detroit and the plot line is developing so I'm in and I'm definitely in for the next six and I'm hoping that it gets extended betting on that it keeps up on this path .

My introduction to Mads Mikkelsen
19 July 2023
I saw this movie when it first came out. Right away it intrigued me the Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen plays absolutely a foreigner, but ensconced in this new heavy duty western culture of the 1870s on I've always been a fan of westerns learned it at my fathers knee and this is a true western Definitely shows the hardships while the acting is phenomenal including Jeffrey Dean Morgan and a beautiful Eva green that doesn't even talk there is never a dull moment. It moves along very quickly, and it's necessary to pay attention to each nuance. There is a scarcity of westerns in general, and certainly ones of excellence, and this definitely is one.

Travolta
3 July 2023
Let me start off by saying i'm not a bot and I'm not a fake reviewer. The reason I gave this movie a seven is not because the plot is so fascinating. It's because the primary character who I liked in some movies certainly the disco era and some others in between, but I think he did a very good job of playing Gotti, the rest of the cast did the best they could with the plot they had it was not a very good plot but sometimes you have to judge a movie by all of its features and somehow Travolta did this in this film I lived through those times I remember them all and I'm a native New Yorker so a review is just that a review and this one is mine.

Does everything really have to be political?
12 June 2023
My father was a big fan of westerns, and I sat there and watched them with him for many years, and when they went out of style, I actually missed them so whenever I see a western which is rare being made in this decade, I make sure to watch it. This is one of the better ones, no it's not marvel thank God and it is woke to a certain degree but that's just the way things are today, but I really didn't concentrate on that. I concentrated on the acting and the story the actors were very good. The story was multifaceted good love stories in there surprise stories about your characters. I love the preacher but it flowed and believe me I've seen many films streaming today that actually put me to sleep without me knowing it this did not it can hold the title of western proudly I think my father would've liked it.

No, it's not marvel or DC

I must admit, I resent this Twitter type thing of how many characters you have to have but I did want to add my review of this because it's getting harder and harder to find movies where it's just the acting and the plot that either entices you or doesn't I see all these repetitions of popular films done over and over again whether it's the comic universe or films like taken or the Keanu Reeves one that just came out with part four they're the same and they're remanufactured and spit out and those get good reviews and make a lot of money but there are still some of us out there that really want to see a story and this particular movie is a story whether it's a repetition of some stories in the past it's not an exact replica And it caught my attention and the characters were interesting. Not just the two main the mother and father I'm thinking but certainly the children too so now it's not a 10 and it's not gonna make millions of dollars or billions or whatever it's supposed to make these days, but it was worth watching .

Maybe it is related to the times we're in
29 January 2023
As I was watching the movie, I got more and more bored and actually agitated with Dakota Johnson she is not a good actress. She comes from lineage and there've been discussions about that be that as it may she always looks the same and "acts"the same and when you do period pieces it comes off even more ridiculous. As I read the reviews I began to see what I'm seeing mostly all the time these days anyway, if you come from a generation where when you read Jane Austen, you read it in her language and then the movies you saw afterwards, especially pride and prejudice her most famous, I would imagine brought those sentiments to life if they were any good this I don't even know why they related it to miss Austen they could've just called it anything it was too woke again trying to add people to a production just because they are a certain race or color. It's just as bad as when there's none of that there's a time and place for everything and then Jane Austen's work. This just does not do it in any manner or form.

Perplexing
29 October 2022
So many questions and yet so too much time to answer them, but yet never answered!

The main characters are lovely to look at, and they do have some acting chops but as has been stated by other reviewers the chemistry is just not there. It's an extremely sultry film though because of it taking place in Central America, and the heat between the main characters is evident even if not the chemistry the film is incredibly long and instead of making it more clear I think it obscured it a bit. By the end of it I was lost as to whom did what and for why And it left me lost Still and all this is not a bad film. It's just not engaging enough.

Tom Hanks a very poor casting for Colonel Parker
5 September 2022
That's it I thought the rest of the movie was entertaining I thought the casting was marvelous to play Elvis is very difficult I'm sure so kudos for this new young star Priscilla was good but Tom Hanks wow really serious miscasting. Tom Hanks has positioned himself in his films and in real life as a good guy and somehow he could not translate to being the really bad bad guy that the colonel was I almost got the feeling that he wanted us to have empathy for him and then ironically seconds later they showed how really badly he ripped off the whole Presley family. ( right before the credit rolls).

I'm so relieved!!
9 August 2022
I thought for sure after the play on the series comparing it to succession and saying it's even better and then watching very laboreouslyly six episodes because I said no it has to get better that it was my misunderstanding of the show surely I must be missing something but I guess to have some others agree with me kind of adds merit to my evaluation and my evaluation is it's just awful and the main character is so incredibly annoying well that's about it that's all I can say about this not worth the time or effort.

What happened prior
2 August 2022
This is not the type of film that is easy to write on a cinematography or acting basis or any of the usual metrics used to rate a film. The point I wish to bring about is that the more I see films or documentaries about tragic cases like this the more one sees how this begins in general with the guilty party's horrific upbringing in the first place!! If children's protective services or DHS or any of the other agencies could finally work in the way that they were supposed to it would be amazing how much of these could be stopped before they happened.

Silly
5 July 2022
The relics of the 60s (& I include myself in that) but the actors here the British actors were terrific to see and the music of course is wonderful to listen to!

I don't believe I'm shallow I think I have a pretty good grasp of the arts but I cannot find anything that is really worthy in this movie except the above and the ending was catchy but the rest of it was just kind of ludicrous of course this is my opinion.

Ah yes. Stephen King
23 June 2022
I always thought it so very strange me being an avid Stephen King book reader that most of the movies I watched that were based on his novels Novellas etc. Were just terrible!!

So here I am trying to plow through this movie with really some excellent actors but such a slow moving bad plot yet I hung in there but alas there was no gravy train at the end and then when I read it it was based on a Stephen King story it was an aha moment.

What else can I say just really not worth the time spent watching it. But maybe it's just the genre When I saw that there was a movie out based on Clive Barker's books if blood I was a ecstatic but that was even worse.

Based on the Kabbalah
20 June 2022
I was truly fascinated by the film from the get-go I like a few others who have written reviews really enjoy the films that make you think but I still wasn't quite sure where all of it was going and what exactly the final message if any was? Then I read a review on Reddit and it all became clearer Kabbalah is the Mystic rendition of the Jewish religion I was fortunate enough to study it with pure Kabbalists in the Middle East but regardless if you understand that at that time guy Ritchie was married to Madonna who was very big into Kabbalah it makes the whole thing about God and the ego and all the other philosophical points more understandable.

Strangely surprising
18 June 2022
When I first read what it was all about I wasn't impressed I thought it would probably be ridiculous or boring or both Then comes a big surprise I would say the first half or a bit more of the movie is actually hysterically funny I laughed a lot maybe that's because I too am of a certain age and it's relatable For me personally the last third or so of the movie was a bit of a letdown it's kind of preachy putting everything in its proper place whereas this movie has nothing to do with proper places it explores things that are quite normal but not perceived by society or even the people themselves as such sometimes it needs to be brought to peoples attention this film does it with great fun and Emma Thompson is a delight and so is her partner who I'm not familiar with but is quite good in this role.

I do think if this was a different time people would not be so extreme in their reactions you get conservative versus woke etc. Etc. I think just take it for what it is and enjoy it!!

The Latino version
16 June 2022
I see all the mostly negative reviews of this movie and I'm actually surprised I know it's been done before but so have a lot of themes Andy Garcia can take anything and make it good Gloria Estefan is very good in her role and it's just a pleasant time to be had by all it's like nothing to pre ponder or post ponder but it makes some points and it was fun!!!

Why and how
10 June 2022
The major question and response I have from this movie is why and how did actors like Katie Holmes and Al Pacino ever agree to do this movie I can't think of enough money that would pay for ones stature and reputation to do this film.

Sadly Amazingly a story of our "right now" times
5 June 2022
We all know that we live in times that change exceptionally quickly -since the release of this movie till today things have changed -but Astonishingly the overall concept of this movie is very much with us today obviously the first thing we have is the bloodletting everywhere and put all of the woman in this movie (and they of course take up the majority of situations) that have come out of our times whether it's the meta-verse the woke culture The loneliness that is periodically interrupted by the use of smart phones & one finds that underlying all of this is the rage and anger.

I was first astounded at the poor reviews of the movie but under the circumstances and with the way we communicate today over social media above all if it is not quick fast exciting A la the marvel movies etc. Or if the political situation is not spelled out exactly and one has to ponder it a bit that could make it "boring" in my mind unfortunate but so it is I think it's an incredible movie and does involve a lot of thought and analysis and it really impressed me.
