Der Untergang (2004)
this is amazing
I'm not a fan of the man, but I'm a fan of this movie.
It is truly amazing. It puts a different spotlight, not the usual evil or butcher thing. Some may regret that the concentration camp topic has been skipped, but, I guess that's not the point of this movie, and also this may not have been a subject in the bunker.
We understand well why he continued to hang on until the very last minute. It also shows all the different persons gravitating around him, all with different motives. Some still fascinated (like Ms Goebbels), some fearing wrath (like Jodl), some weak (Speer), some opportunist (Goring), or some unaware (Eva Braun).
The only thing I regret, and unfortunately, it's the last scene, is that viewers might think that miss Junge could cross the soviet lines without harm, while in reality, she's been a sexual slave of a Russian officer for a long time. Maybe that's victors' truth.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
frankly, if it wasn't for Tarentino ...
... would you have seen it ? The first scene was very inviting and promising, with a fabulous Waltz and Menochet, and then it slips into the third dimension. A Jewish woman with a black young man managing a cinema (or whatever shop), in France in the middle of the 40s ??? Hitler's attending somewhere without tight security of Leibstandarte SS ??? Where do they all get tailor made smokings in a few hours time, all that, without people noticing that they can't talk french or German ??? You are kidding me. What's the point of this movie ? It has no historic value, no humor, nothing. WWII is a serious matter. This film is an insult to all our parents and grandparents who lost their lives to fight the evil. At least, I would have preferred if there were no reference to historic characters.
Ninja (2009)
who's gonna pay to see this comedy ?
You always have to praise first. So, let's praise for the first (and last time) : at least, they used real Japanese actors, and not some Asian looking buddies pronouncing some inaudible ad-lib. Now, for the main part. Story is 150% laughable. Let's find a reason to come to NYC : hide a so-called sacred box to the "other side of the world". Let's find a reason to have a white man in a Asian club : he lost mama and daddy ! Let's find a reason to have a woman : it's the master's daughter ! Let's have a reason to have hooligan looking guys : it's a secret society, so secret that you don't really understand what are their values. What's this ninja doing with night vision goggles ? You must show that tradition surpasses technology. What is this "that is anger" thing ? They don't know that StarWars has used this before. What's this ninja girl totally incapable of defending herself ? Okay, okay, muscle man defending small weak girl. Where's the usual sexy scene ? Oh yeah, the double hot shower with clothes on, almost forgot it. What's the last scene opening to the future ? A family grave in the middle of the training field ... to show the next generation of Ninja ... (why not a pregnant Namiko while you are at it). BTW, what's the meaning of beheading Masazuka ? And, we still don't know who is the next Soke. We definitively need a part II !!
