Kick-Ass (2010)
Does exactly what it says on the ticket!
This film is quite literally "Kick-Ass". One of the few fresh feeling comedies around nowadays. The story is believable, the casting is superb and action scenes don't feel rushed and flow along with the film. For anyone who was expecting to see a slightly humorous self-indulgent comic flick this will blow you away. I'll be honest in that some elements of the story seemed like cheats, especially the ending shot. But these short-cuts are totally acceptable for the brilliant moments of genius comedy that flood the movie. I'd also like to say that Nic Cage is tremendous as Big daddy, showing his true diversity as an actor once again. To sum up this film.....I'm sorry to say it again....KICK'S ASS!
I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)
I loved Phillip Morris
I have literally just got back from watching this film and i can honestly say 'I love you Phillip Morris' is probably Jim Carrey's greatest performance. Bravo Mr Carey. The feel of this film from start to finish was that of a warm, touching picture with moments of ball-bouncingly brilliant comedy.
Ewan McGregor is completely convincing as a love-struck gay man. The two lead men have wonderful on screen chemistry which shows throughout the whole film. In my opinion the perfect casting of two gay lovers. Take a bow fellas.
If you love seeing films which show Carrey's slapstick antics whilst maintaining an emotional story-line this is definitely the film for you. If this film had come out a month ago Carrey would definitely be in with a real shout at an Oscar.
Legion (2010)
What its all about!
Basically this film can be summed up in two words...Good Effort! The plot is pretty much your basic 'lets see how long we can survive without being eaten' story type. The only difference is there's a religious spin on the "Bad Guys". This is fine in itself but is obviously damn difficult to pull off considering that God and his angels are the Bad Guys.
I watched the film expecting to see a quite decent action survival film...and to be fair i did. Yes the story lacks at parts and the characters are slightly under-developed but that just means the viewers can fill the blanks in for themselves. This film ultimately set out to do one thing...show Paul Bettany kicking ass! And guess what....he kicks some serious ass! My only complaint with this film is that for some reason when the angels possess people they feel the need to swear an awful lot...Why? All this achieved was to make them look less scary and more pathetic! Anyhoo i reckon this is definitely worth a look see. Cheerio
