Unequal Nakedness
18 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie shows way too much of William H. Macy's buttocks. I might have rated this movie higher if we could have gotten an equal amount of Marcia Gay Harden's buttocks. As naggy as she was I'll bet she's fine to see without clothes...like a naked maiden. Macy is always good, otherwise. Morgan Freeman's role was refreshing as a meek, sensitive artist rather than his typical avuncular guy. Christopher Walken is always good but I missed his straight up big hair that he sports on talk shows -- probably not appropriate for this role. Jeremy Lipking's painting, "The Lonely Maiden", grew on me. I'm not the most knowledgeable art apprecianado but it is a piece like this that opens up the mind. I hope it is on its way to terre classique.

Overuse of Limited Chromatography
14 March 2008
Once again we have to see a movie filmed in that limited or selective coloration or chromatography. I guess the effect is to present a harsh edge to support the thriller theme. The first time I saw this was in Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers". It was overdone. It's tiresome. A little goes a long way. Why do these movie makers latch onto a cinematic trick and beat it to death. "Minority Report" is another one. See "Marathon Man" -- thrill to the New York scenes with a real eyeball. And don't get me started on time jumping. Anymore we gotta jump around in time back and forth, to and fro. Hey give it a rest and call it a day. And don't get me started on music videos where the camera shot jumps around to the beat of the music and usually on the wrong instrument.

International Laughs Aplenty
20 September 2006
Hey what a great premise -- diplomacy through comedy. Once again Brooks delivers the understated. He goes into the "search" with such high hopes. Are things getting lost in the translation? I mean if you get lost in America, imagine being in India and Pakistan.

The movie is believable. Brooks plays himself. The Indians and Pakistanis are not made out to be caricatures, but rather sane folks that have their opinions about comedy. It's a laugh-a-minute story nicely woven together. Plus you get a little lesson in stand-up.

Check out the scene where Brooks is trying to get his show started: all or nothing lighting and getting announced in the one and only mike.

Brooks still funny as ever.
1 December 2003
Once again Albert Brooks is in fine comedic form. I thought the supine / pronate foot physiology gag was a scream. I'll bet the "Fat Cobra" and the boa constrictor dinner was a tribute to the Peter Falk and Alan Arkin original "Serpentine! Serpentine!"

Shearer wigs out.

This movie tickled me to no end. And the talent, those guys are writing and playing their own songs! The understated humor just killed me. When you get the DVD make sure you checkout the extras. Best Eugene Levy I've seen. And those album covers...ha, ha, ha, ha ha...
