Redirected (2014)

I am a Lithuanian myself and I had quite a few Lithuanian friends telling me that this film is going to have me in tears so I gave it a whirl. 20-30min into the film and I came to think that I am probably just wasting my time. I am sure that many Lithuanians will find it funny though. You have a priest that does the opposite of what is expected of a priest; you have lots of cursing and cliché characters who seem to be incapable of a normal human interaction other than shouting and screaming their lunges out. Once a new character is introduced into the film, you know that he is likely to be just like the characters we had already seen, meaning more shouting, cursing and screaming. Furthermore, the film does not do any justice to the Lithuanian culture etc. We were represented as a bunch of bigots. Having said that, the film does not take itself seriously and obviously it should be approached with a light-hearted attitude. Although, I personally did not find it all that funny, I am sure that many Lithuanians will and rightfully so. The most interesting element of the film was actually watching the interactions between English and Lithuanian bigots, which made for a rather funny and interesting dichotomy. All in all, a very much Lithuanian oriented film that will probably be unappreciated by the foreign audience.

Odd Girl Out (2005 TV Movie)

rather entertaining teen school drama

I was pleasantly surprised by how well thought out and thought-provoking this films was. It might seem as a stereotypical situation when you see a girl being bullied by her friends in high school. This film, however, provides something original and more insightful than you would usually expect from a genre and premise like this. In the film we see a popular, good-looking girl turned into a victim, which is rather unusual and fresh. And I did root for the girl and indeed I was angry with what was happening to her, and therefore I wanted things to be sorted out by the end of the film. Ultimately, a great drama with a great story-line and character development.

The Avengers (2012)

a ride of my life

I don't usually write reviews and I am not an expert on analyzing all that cinematographic stuff or how god of a job director did. All I can say is that I had a time of my life. It was an amazing film with an amazing storyline and amazing actors in it. When I first heard about the avengers, I was very happy yet skeptical about it. My biggest concern was how they were going to put all these legendary characters into one film and provide them all with enough screen time to achieve some character development. Even after seeing it I have no idea how they did it, but they not only did it they smashed it. Right from the start I was taken to a ride of my life, I could not take my eyes out of what was going on. In terms of special effect, it was top-notch as it was expected no question about it. People are praising this film for being very witty and having a lot of comedy in it, I have to say I am not a fan of comedy, but this film made me laugh more than any other comedy in a very long time. Having to see Hulk smashing Loki or Capitan America patronizing Iron-man, or Iron-Man fighting Thor, was something you could have dreamt of to see on the big screen when you were a kid. But having a chance to see it done and developed in such an effective and spectacular fashion was beyond my wildest expectations, and trust me I had very high hopes for this film. Well, sorry for not being very structured and coherent about the whole thing, I just wanted to share a little bit of joy and excitement that I have been provided with watching this amazing film. It's an epic masterpiece, and seeing it on the big screen is a one of those things you have to do before you die, that's for sure.

American Psycho II: All American Girl (2002 Video)

DON'T get all the bad reviews

The film has received a lot of negative reviews what comes as a really surprise to me. OK, it wasn't really a sequel to American psycho, it was a movie on it's own. The only thing the both have in common is the title. Other than that, it should've been judged as a completely different film, that gave a completely different serial-killer standpoint. As far as the original with Christian Bale, it was a masterpiece, mind-blowing performance, truly a classic. However, when people expect the very same thing, they get disappointed, because it's nothing like that at all.

The film doesn't take itself too seriously, it's neither a horror film nor twisted psychological flick. It takes an easy and ironical approach as well as it contains a lot of black-comedy elements. Mila Kunis gives a great performance as a cold, callous, obsessed serial killer, who is going to do anything it takes to achieve her goals. For sure, it's not an Oscar-worthy performance, however it was convincing and given her age, she really pulled it off. Now she's on her way to become a big thing.

To wrap up, I would recommend to watch this flick with a clear head, be uncommitted and don't expect the same kind of atmosphere and attitude as the first one, since it has no connection as far as genre and representation goes.

Scream 4 (2011)

predictable and disappointing

Maybe I'm not a fan of scream, but I was excepting something unpredictable and exciting, considering the big budget and huge promotion. Plot was tedious and you could see what's coming next.

Killing scenes were as lame as you can get,and there was nohing outstanding as far as horror films go. Nothing you haven't seen before.. typical Hollywood atmosphere, that resembles corny Halloween films. As far as character development, there was no such thing at all. I didn't give a damn what was going happen to them. Ending was one of the worst you can come up with.

Normally they try to craft a good ending and infuse some twist, to make up foe the whole film, but you could see what was going to happen, As I said too unpredictable and boring

the best fighting scenes ever

in terms of storyline you won't be able to see a deep love or deep feelings, which is the first positive aspect. It's an action move, it's all about fighting.And i must stay I've never seen anything like that, it's a truly masterpiece, the choreography and skilled athletes really pulled it off..

It's the entrance towards contemporary action films as it takes evertyhing to the next level.. action departmen was a bit snoozy for quite some time and this kind of shake-up was vital to revive this genre. It's one of these films, that's unheard of and not very known out there, therefore you kind of hesitate to watch it because you don't want to waste your time on some crap, but it's certainly not the case. Even the story itself was quite inspiring and interesting, definitely it wasn't just dry fights in the ring, obviously there was a meaning beyond that, which makes it even more interesting to watch.

Scott Adkins has delivered an incredible performerance and has the potential to be next huge thing out there, it was spectacualar to witness elaborated stunts in such a way.. If you're a fun of action and you are willing to have a great time and you're looking for something, that wouldn't let you down - go for it!

Never Back Down (2008)

Great film, praise-worthy

This is one more film with quite good idea. Though, there are a lot similar films that we could bracket in one group with this one. Yet, it has something outstanding. It inspires me in a way. To strive for my life-goals, never back down, no matter how hard it may be, what sort of obstacles are ahead of you.. Maybe that's the real purpose of this film? To inspire one, to be confident and persistent. At least, I was affected in this way. I presume, that this movie is suitable for those, who have a very deep and grim times, who need some sort of wake up call to evoke positive feelings to what's life.. to make one be optimistic again...

American Beauty (1999)

supreme film.. everyone must see this film at least once

To start with, this film is probably my most favorite one, or at least one of it. I first time watched this film when I was 14-15 years old, then I remember, it hadn't had any effect on me.. I thought to myself that this is one ordinary, clichéd film, with no original or outstanding idea... Yet, after couple of years I saw this film again and now I saw it in a totally different way than I did first time. Frankly, I don't even know why.. maybe my comprehension and grasp on films has changed. But now, I realize the true beauty of this movie. It's about typical American family, which at first glance might seem to be perfect as they have everything: beautiful house, both of spouses have well-paid jobs and a teenager daughter. Yet, this family has lots of flaws, love between spouses had faded away long time ago.. Daughter somewhat despises her parents...

Unbreakable (2000)

it was a pure masterpiece ...

I could describe this film as a mixture of fantasy/imaginary world and realistic and grounded masterpiece... I like the whole atmosphere of this film, the environment, which is very melancholic and sad. Sad, because it was made in a a very slow pace, there is no rush. Everything unfolds gradually, every single scene is elaborated and scrutinized. I disagree, that it is some sort of fiction, where we can face one more super-hero with subnormal powers, No! It is about simple family, about simple man with daily problems, who happens to be something extraordinarily special and having ability to be invulnerable, which in turn, makes him a protector of humanity. I do agree, it might sound little bid cliché, but yet everything was conveyed and represented in a totally different way of what we normally see in these types of movies... And I enjoy the fact, that there we won't see boring and trite love story hidden behind everything as we can usually see in almost every film..

Lost in Translation (2003)

Not typical love story

This movie gained a lot of positive reviews and awards. And I think it deserved all of it. At first it might seem to be as a very simple and cliché love story, that has already been seen hundreds of times. Yet, this story has something very different, something that compels and captivates you. This story is not one of those stories where you will see happy-ending or marriage at the end of the movie.. No.. there you aren't going to hear "I love you" or "I couldn't live without you" and so on... No! There you will see two people, who found each other little bit too late, too late, that the love would be unfolded... However, they are not sad about it, they don't feel some sort of pain or grief. They enjoy every moment with each other..
