Surrealism to perfection
9 September 2023
If you want to watch a random universe that doesn't exist, Super Dave is the perfect show.

This show delivers the perfect surrealism you'd expect from a late late night show.

I feel compelled to give an example of another surrealist show. There are a lot of other late night surrealist shows such as Eric Andre show. The issue with such shows is that they push the boundaries of believable too much and they become annoying.

Super Dave, is show that is showing a completely made up universe with random events and people who seem to be celebrities for no reason. But if you take things as they come, they make sense, sort of! From aate night surrealist show I expect a perfect combination of confusing and funny.

Recycled plots, recycled dialogs, recycled jokes
14 July 2022
Let me begin by saying I watch this show a lot. I have seen the show maybe 5 times forwards and back. Season after season, I see that the show is losing its edge for me. This movie finally helped me put my finger on it. Even worse, the movies even failed at delivering its own best version. When the show started it was about this dysfunctional family of odd but relatable people with some good luck. The more the show went on, it became more and more about realistic art, realistic plots, and realistic people.

First the art. When you watch the very 1st episode, the characters look asymmetric and the detail in the animation is low to not want to compete with realism. With every season, the art style became cleaner and cleaner. Characters look symmetric, there are more lines to give the drawings some depth, there is more shading, etc. This movie took the clean drawing art style to the max. The shading in some scenes didn't make sense based on the time of day or the angle of the light. It kept making me think, they really didn't need to add depth.

Second the actual movie. The movie was literally a weak repeat of 5 old plots from the show. The lines in the script were practically recycled from the show. The dialogs were disappointingly unimaginative and predictable. And lastly, the songs were really just okay. In the show the musicals are at least catchy. Not here.

Here is my verdict: It's fine to do the "same old same old" in a 20-minute episode. But I couldn't watch the old stories for one and half hours, especially given how unfunny the jokes were and how boring the songs were. I really endured the movie.

One of the best movies I have seen in a long time

This movie is an excellent illustration of Alzheimer's disease. Anthony Hopkins nails the acting. The way he acts the deterioration of his mind is unbelievable.

An overnight viral sensation...
4 May 2022
This is fun light hearted animation. The story is entertaining and adorable at times. The humor is to my liking: even though some jokes are predictable, they're still well placed and executed well. I personally enjoyed the art style combining 3D animation with comic style 2D drawings. Kudos to the animators, the faces of the characters were very expressive.

Source Code (2011)
5/10
Overrated
6 January 2022
This movie is just okay. I don't get all the platitudes that all these reviews are giving it.

The movie has an engaging start. You start to wonder what the story actually is. But as it goes on, it becomes worse and worse. Jake Gyllenhaal does a great job, but the rest of the cast are average at best. Specially the evil Dr. Which keeps talking about "the source code" (read with plenty of suspense). It seemed as though the writers had a rough idea but they clearly could not wrap it up nicely. The story unfolds haphazardly and feels very rushed.

Overall, I think 5/10 is a fair rating but it definitely is nowhere near the average rating it has on IMDb.

Onward (I) (2020)

Brotherhood
3 January 2022
Most famous animated movies tell a love story or teach us the value of our parents. The first Disney animation that stepped away from that was Frozen in which they depicted a sisterhood and I enjoyed that movie very much.

Onward tells us the story of a brotherhood. Although at the beginning it felt like a cliche, as it went on the message resonated with me more and more. It does a great job in showing the relationship between two brothers and the significance of an older brother as a role model and support to the younger one. I personally enjoyed this movie a lot since my older brother was also seen as the "screw up" and had a stronger bond with our father. But I tend to forget how many times he has been there for me to share my life with.

Overall the movie is enjoyable and engaging. Even though the jokes were sometimes predictable, the movie didn't end the way I imagined, in a good way.

A fun movie to watch
16 December 2021
Let me begin by saying if you enjoy sci-fi, you'd enjoy this movie. The story was good enough to maintain my attention and not become boring. There is a good bit of humor in it. Actors delivered their roles nicely for the most part.

All in all, it is worth watching if you don't try too hard to poke holes in the logic or the plot.

Captain Tsubasa (2018–2023)

One of the most underrated titles
30 June 2021
This series is one of the most underrated anime shows. It's a beautifully done animation. The story is inspirational, characters are well developed, and each episode has a strong story revolving around one or two key events. Even the filler episodes contribute to the importance of the grand finale. I do wish that, towards the end, there was more inventiveness. Some things become repetitive and less new skills are introduced.

The voice acting is great. The art style is amazing. The imagination of the artists is exemplary: if a shot/skill has a name, it's because it deserves a name and the animation and sound effects show it really well. The Razor shot, the Falcon shot, the Skylab Hurricane (lol), etc.

There are two weaknesses to the show, however, that you'd only notice if you have seen the original anime. This show has toned down the drama in the original series. Because of that the sound track is often happy and less suspenseful. Moreover, some dramatic events in the original story have been toned down.

Overall I recommend this show, if you liked Haikyu. But keep in mind this show is less about being realistic and more of an epic.

Goosebumps
29 May 2021
The story of Solayman will give you goosebumps. The animation is beautiful. The music is exciting. And the characters are very well developed. By the end of the movie, you are as invested in the journey as Parvanah. I wish Hollywood would take a note about how to show women empowerment.

Listen, it's a good movie
22 May 2021
The movie is entertaining. I enjoyed the animation style, it was creative. Some of the jokes made me actually laugh. And it was heartwarming.. very heartwarming.. sometimes too heartwarming! And a little bit stick up for big corporations (maybe because they've funded them?) I definitely liked the family centric message and humor.

Once again, amazing visuals with poor plot
18 April 2021
The visual effects were once again extraordinary. I really enjoyed the fight scenes. But, as an adult, I can't say I enjoyed the plot. Lots of questionable events, almost like a Spy Kids movie.

Compared to "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", in my opinion, the fight scenes in GKTM were more entertaining and creative.

Watch it for the amazing visuals
11 March 2021
The visuals are so beautiful, it'd make a grown ass man cry! The dialogues are so unbearable, it'd make a grown ass man cry! All in all, it's worth watching.

The plot is probably good for a 13 year old. The human characters do not have a reason to do the things they do: there is no build up to why the bad people are bad, and the good people have very weak reasons for what they do. But if you accept this going in, then you can phase out and enjoy the CGI art (if you are into that).

On the other hand, the CGI artists have done their job well. When it comes to the build ups here, I think every scene is well built up. You are at the edge of your seat waiting for Godzilla to roar. The fight scenes are very well choreographed. And the finale is very much climactic.

If you're not familiar witIh the history of Godzilla (like myself), I would recommend watching one of those 15-minute Youtube videos to enjoy the monster fights.

I really like the narration
21 March 2020
I don't know what's up with all these reviews complaining about the narrator. She is doing an amazing job with her intonation. The narration is in fact one if my favorite parts of this series.

Stranger Things (2016–2025)
1/10
Season 1: 9/10, Season 2: 7/10, Season 3: 1/10
29 October 2019
Season 1 was amazing. The story was robust and characters had reason to be in the show. It conveyed the 80s feeling with a good blend of 80s music.

Season 2 was good. The main story line was solid still although there were some questionable parts to it. Some characters were cheap and not well developed.

Season 3 was garbage. It seemed like the writers were tasked to see what people liked about the show and just fill the story line with them. It had excessive use of brands. The 80s music were just injected every where for no reason: every time a person entered the scene, 80s music was blasting loudly. Dialogs were extremely predictable and cheesy. Each character's personality was unnecessarily exaggerated: Hopper is always angry and unreasonable, Erica was constantly sassy but the smartest person ever, the mayor is the worst person in the world, the whole newspaper crew were excessively mean. And finally, the whole plot with the Russians was cheap and not at all well thought out. It was hard to finish the season really.

As bad as a Disney Channel movie
2 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is really really weak in terms of its poor story and its childish jokes! When the movie starts there are a few good moments that give you the feeling that it may have a strong story.

In this movie, there is this man who has problem communicating with people in the airport because he does not know the language. Unfortunate for him, he gets into a big trouble since his visa is not valid anymore due to some revolution in his country.

The movie had the potential to be a great comedy drama, but it suddenly turned into a Hannah Montana love story! The character of the chief officer in the airport reminds me of the bad guy in the Inspector Gadget cartoon series. His dialogs cannot get any worse. And what was the marriage at the airport? You cannot simply push a wedding into your screenplay just to make a movie happy!

Altogether, if you change the cast of the movie to some teenagers it will be a perfect fit for Disney Channel. If someone enjoys this type of comedy, there is a good chance that he/she enjoys High School musical and Camp Rock as well.
