The Last of Us is hands down one of the greatest games ever created. It is a benchmark game that will forever be remembered in the memories of every gamer who has ever played it. The journey Joel and Ellie go through during the first game is a paramount example of how video games have become more and more immersive and cinematic, giving us two of the most memorable characters in all video game history. Making a sequel to this game is perhaps the most daunting task in recent video game history, and Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog nailed it.
The Last of Us Part II was cut off at the knees though before anyone could even play it due to cutscene leaks and misleading leaks regarding characters sexualities within the game. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY OF THAT. The Last of Us Part II is a logical continuation of the original game and Joel's incendiary and morally ambiguous decision at the conclusion of that game. This game takes Ellie to the forefront almost 5 years after the original game's conclusion. The story is incredibly complex and demonstrates the cycles of violence within this incredibly terrifying world.
The gameplay will almost assuredly wear you out, as it is a pretty long campaign filled with almost unbearable violence which you have to be a part of. It makes the gamer complicit in all of the decisions characters must make in a world where survival is tantamount. The graphics engine is absolutely gorgeous, making leaps and bounds from the Remastered version of The Last of Us. We get to see a little more into the world, the Cordyceps virus, and the characters we all fell in love with from the original game. I highly recommend paying no attention to the review bombers out there who represent the most flagrant acts toxic fandom. I'm not saying they are not welcome to their opinions, but even if the story isn't your favorite thing in the world, the graphics, sound design, lighting, acting, and much more make the game a solid choice and worthy of a better score than a 1 or a 2. Those people are trolls and the worst parts of any fanbase.
