Les chevaliers du ciel (2005)
Best flight scenes ever
Granted this is not the best movie ever and the scenario is not always credible but Les chevaliers du ciel was meant to be entertaining and for a French movie, the result is better than one could initially expect.
The main interest of the movie is of course the fighter jets. I found the photography in the flight scenes better than that of any other movie I had see before, including Top Gun. This is why I gave this movie 7/10. Furthermore, this is not CGI but actual film shot from a pod located under a real plane, something worth mentioning when most other movies nowadays would rely on computers to show aircraft in the air.
So if you like war planes in action, Les chevaliers du ciel is for you. The flight sequences alone are worth it. And the rest of the story is still quite pleasant.
24 (2001)
Too far-fetched maybe
I've just finished watching Season 1 and I don't really get the big hype about 24. Sure the original idea is quite good but the plot is often too far-fetched, with 2-3 new sub-plots showing up every episode (the Keith Palmer/Dr Ferragamo story, Kim Bauer seeking refuge at Rick's place followed by the drug bust, Teri Bauer's amnesia, it goes on and on). The story moves in every direction instead of concentrating on the main storyline. Also, it's difficult to imagine the terrorists planning such a complicated revenge, having so many backup plans which always work, at least up to some point, or federal/law enforcement agents getting killed by the dozen without stirring more reactions. I'll admit though that after I saw the first 2 episodes, I was hooked and wanted to know the end of the story (it's a good thing I bought the whole season on DVD) but the ultimate feeling is what could have been an excellent show turned out average.
