The Story of Nintendo (2023)
Lazy disappointing documentary
As a child of the 80s, and Nintendo fan I was looking forward to watching this documentary. Unfortunately upon watching I was left very disappointed with the production of this mini documentary. A lot of repetition in the script, lazy edits, the researchers getting a lot of relatively well known facts wrong. There's a lot about this documentary that frustrated me, the thing that frustrated me most was the conflating facts of the (arguably) 3 main gaming markets (North America, Europe and Japan). This documentary is not a good resource of Nintendo history. The team behind this documentary get an F for effort, D for execution, or 5/10 for me.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Not a Sonic film, but a film featuring Sonic
As a family film featuring Sonic, it's a nice way to spend 90 odd minutes, however as a Sonic the Hedgehog film it's a little bit of a let down, especially when you consider how America-centric the international gaming icon is presented with American politics, ideals and jokes featuring quite heavily. Acting was good and overall a nice family time.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
An underwhelming end
Like for many fans, S8 has been quite disappointing, as though the well from which the brilliant writing had been drawn, that we were blessed, and had become as much a part of the show as any character or location, seems to have evaporated here in a damp cold Autumn.
I don't take issue with what happened during the final 6 episodes of the show, but I do with how it happened.
The way the characters act and react to a lot of important things in S8 doesn't feel true. GoT has always been jarring, it was a signature of the show, but whatever happened always had a 'natural' feel to it.
If I could sit down with GRRM and D&D I'd like to ask them at what point in the shows making did they know, absolutely how the TV finale Season would end.
S8 does feel rushed and like they wrote things, however absurd they may feel just to get an ending that was 'supposed to be'
If they knew from S1 what ending they wanted, they did a terrible thing leading up to it, and telling this ending.
If they only knew from S6 onwards, they really should have asked to change the ending, or take whatever liberties they can with the story to lead up to it properly.
Much like with HIMYM & Dexter, the ending left me feeling underwhelmed and robbed of a proper ending for the GoT that I had watched for 7 seasons.
The Blacklist (2013)
Jaded and disappointed
For a while this show was enjoyable and something I looked forward to watching, however the last few seasons have relied on certain cliffhangers being a hook to continue watching, and from the last series it's pretty much the only reason why I continued to watch as this once brilliant show just felt tiresome. After watching the season 5 finale I am completely finished with the cliffhangers, hooks and storyline. I'd recommend anyone not to continue with this show as it'll lead to disappointment.
