The Little Convict (1979)
A Stunning Mix of Animation and Real Life
When a bloke who considers himself solid etc, will sit up and admit having cried to a film, surely that has to be a compliment in itself? Yes, this has been one of only two films to ever make me shed a tear, the other being Les Maitres Du Temps (Time Masters). Back when I was younger, I hadn't a clue who Rolf Harris was or what he was about really, but yes I recognised him. The stunning style of animation, the deep detailed characters (by detailed I mean well developed) really hit home, and when something personal happens you really feel for that character. Definitely worth a watch. Brilliant film and why I'm awarding it a 9/10.
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Paul Anderson = Good and this is proof.
Game to Big Screen usually gives us a poor return, but in this case fortunately we have very close to a masterpiece. Well choreographed, (Maybe Jackie Chan got involved on the sly!) a half decent story, some great one liners (Johnny Cage; the $500 one)mean that this is my fave game to big screen title. Christopher Lambert is partly the reason I even bothered watching this, as I expected this to follow that general rule. Lambert, Robin Shou and Bridget Wilson's performances are great, and do the movie a world of justice. Since I played the original game, I've been an MK fan, and was glad to see that the game hade been done justice. To accompany these factors the film had a very good soundtrack as well. Outstanding work from all those involved, but in the end no surprise that 3/4 of the cast turned down the chance to return for a sequel.
