Odysseus & the Isle of Mists (2008)
Okay
a low budget TV style movie set in ancient times. Some reviewers alternately claim that they characters speak in the correct manner and some complain they don't, both groups seem to think the Ancient Greeks spoke archaic English. It's okay . no 300 style effects, the main Character is played by Mummy Baddie Arnold Vosloo and it's all loosely based on the Odyssey . If you are expecting much you won't be disappointed. filler filler filler Filler FILLER FILLER. more filler filler filler and a final line of filler filler filler filler FFFFFF FFFFFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFF FFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFF the extra lines are to fulfill the ridiculous requirement for 10 lines of text, its a freaking review not a book
The Pillars of the Earth (2010)
Not worth it
I wanted to like this. I like historical dramas. But it isn't very good. the acting is bad, while the good guys are nuanced the baddies are pure cartoonishly evil and one dimensional. they never actually show much of the cathedral being built, and never really explain why the baddies are so set on destroying it. Ian McShane is wasted in this and he is the best actor in it. All the female characters are strong forceful women, this led me to notice there were no female menials, no scullery maids, ladies in waiting or the like. the towns also are about as intelligent as those in Monty Python's Holy Grail. all in all skip it.
From the Earth to the Moon: We Interrupt This Program (1998)
Episopde 8
The previous reviewer missed this episode while actually watching it. the Apollo 13 story is well known enough that making a show about the way it was saved was redundant. so instead they focused on the press and how news coverage morphed from the Edward R Murrow/Walter Cronkite in-depth coverage to the tabloid news such as Fox News and MSNBC now practice. It is a brilliant episode that follows the brash new reporter covering the "people" and the fading away of the old reporter who reported the story. Anyone interested in news coverage should watch this episode. In my opinion it might have been the best. "filler added to make ten lines" what a stupid rule
