Children of the Corn (1984)
Children of the CORNY
This movie was a real let down. It started off creepy enough with the slashing of some elderly throats and some mystical choking. I liked the part with Sarah (the young girl) in the beginning and her nightmares but then it went downhill, and then some. The movie lacked an explanation for anything that happened, and most of the events seemed to jump out of nowhere. The whole "The one who walks behind the rows" thing was an attempt to have some type of mystery and intrigue but in the end we find that it really makes no sense at all when some random monster just appears from no where, burrowing underneath the soil
yeah that makes lots of sense? The worst part about this movie it that it really made no sense at all. It never explained anything that happened, like why Job and Sarah seemed to be immune to the thrall of the cult that Isaac so easily asserts upon the other children in the town. Also, why the town so swiftly became a mysterious and "hidden" down that yielded power so easily, such as from the old man at the gas station, in only a few days. The adults die and suddenly the town's off the maps and the sky seems to yield to the children's will, it all happens too fast and with no explanation as to how Isaac and Malachai attain their god-like status.
This movie seems to be quite the cult classic, and must have done very well judging by the parade of sequels that followed in its outdated footsteps. It's really too bad, perhaps if this movie had never been created all the other terrible Sequels would not have been made either. My advice is to stay away from this movie, you'll expect too much due to its fame and come away disappointed and angry, mumbling something to yourself about the structure that plots are supposed to follow in movies. I wouldn't even suggest this movie for a laughable scary flick, I would instead shy away from it totally as it fails on both fronts, I guess the problem is it takes itself far too seriously in correspondence to its laughable plot and story and ends up really sucking.
Session 9 (2001)
Scared me
Alright, its late and I am home alone. I am flipping through the channels and this little puppy comes on. I have got to admit that this scared me alot when I was watching it all alone in a dark room.
I was really scared actually. So I just suggest renting this one and watching it alone, in a dark room, at night. It will freak you out. Otherwise I really don't think its that great, its really all about the mood. But oooo did it get me then!
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Horrible
I mean horrible in a good way. This is an amazing movie, I love it and I think its one of the best movies I have ever seen, but it's still a horrible thought, this movie was sorta hard to watch, but I mean that in a good way to. I think some things shouldn't be coated so completely with social acceptability that they can no longer disgust the viewer, this movie wasn't and I was impressed. Now, I have to admit to this day I still sorta shiver when I think about this movie. Harry's mother is a preticularly difficult image for me to cope with. I saw this movie when I was twelve for the first time, perhaps a little bit young, so I thought maybe this is why I was so shocked. Well now that i have watched it at an older age I see that it was not me. This movie was made to shock. I recommend this movie to a friend of mine and he said he couldn't get through it. He's a happy guy, likes cartoons and comedy, but he's also into movies like Pi, being John Malkavich (sry for spelling) and Donnie Darko, so I thought he might like it. Well he described his experience with the film and disgusted, sometimes people just can't handle the reality of it, I am not sure if this is a bad or good thing. In all, this is a great movie, that I can't say I enjoyed but was impressed with and bettered as a person because of it. I recommend it to you, just try and get through it, you'll be happy that you did, it's a really good film.
Hearts in Atlantis (2001)
Most times hearts don't break, they just bend
I Absolutely LOVED this movie when I saw it. It was actually the reason I read the book, which really surprised me. The movie and the book are really very, very different and cannot be compared. I hope that everyone can get past the greatness of the book to understand the greatness of the movie.
The movie really `touched' me, sorry if I sound corny, but it did, and it made me think. It had a lot of things the book didn't have, a lot of lines the book implied and ideas the book hadn't fully developed. However, the same goes for the movie, it was missing a lot of things that the book had, like five of the sections!! Although I really and truly LOVED the sections of the book, I am almost happy the movie didn't try to do them. By focusing on one part of the book they were able to linger on the small things and create feelings of caring for the characters that you wouldn't get if you were rushed thought the movie. I have seen the book and the movie, and I must say, I liked both the same! Go Hearts, I am impressed, such a great story and movie!
Darkness Falls (2003)
Funny
This "horror" film should be labeled a comedy. The scary scene were laughable, the monster was, to say the least, NOT SCARY, and the entire premise of the film was just stupid. I mean, come on, the tooth fairy is coming to get you? Give me a BREAK! Also, why is it just the town's tooth fairy, isn't there only one tooth fairy, and I mean, the idea of a tooth fairy doesn't exactly strike fear into my heart.
Regardless of all these problems, lets go onto the characters. They were so, not cool. I thought the main heroin to be annoying and helpless, the hero to be so average it was just dumb, and the little boy victim to be a little too stupid, even for horror movie standards. The first scene in the movie was the only scene that was even remotely scary, and that's only because they didn't show the stupid `tooth fairy' right away. I really did not like that movie.
I would, however, recommend seeing this movie for a good laugh. I know, because I laughed my way through the entire thing. Especially the ending, the overly dramatic shot of the decaying molar as it pains out into darkness, how cheesy is that, I couldn't stop laughing. Well, whatever your reason is to see this movie, fine, but if your looking to be scared, don't waste you money. For `darkness falls' I rate it, as a thriller, three out of ten stars, and as a comedy, 6 out of ten, really a funny movie.
Charmed (1998)
Worst show.
Can you say TERRIBLE SHOW?! Cause this certainly is. Every single episode seems to have the same stupid plot. The acting is bad, the characters are annoying at best, the plot holes are too extensive to name, and the so-called villains are ridiculous. All that this show is, is a copy off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, except Buffy did it better, funnier, and more real. I cannot express enough how bad this show really is. When this show actually manages to do a new story it hasn't done before the idea of the episode is horrible! The dialogs are uninteresting, the underlying plots are a JOKE, and the jokes are not funny. Please, stop watching this show people, then, maybe it will, with any luck at all, go off air before it's too late and it has succeeded in ruining television forever.
