Surviving Jack (2014)
Barely enjoyable That 70's show remake
If you've watched That 70's show I don't think will manage to like this poorly acted remake.
You can practically see all of the same characters (the foreign looking, the mysteriously wise, the authoritarian father, the loose sister, etc), but none of the same "chemistry" (I don't really know how to say it better). I'm a 90's kid, this show should in theory work for me... but it doesn't. It does have some interesting writing going on, but the actors really fail to deliver, specially the young ones. I don't say cancel this show, but I won't recommend it to any of my friends, at least not this (first)season.
Memory of the Camps (2014)
Words are not enough
This is the most disturbing film I never finished watching. The endless sequences of starved dead humans being dragged into huge piles of dead human mess is all the more horrifying when your brain knows from the start this is not Hollywood drama but the real deal.
Also, the way things are described, the terms used, and the portrayal of the German people are made in a way that gave me a new perspective on the whole nature of the Allied/Nazi rhetoric modern works can't dare to try without raising eyebrows all around. It's harsh language, directed at people they saw as monsters for years.
I think this is a precious piece of film. Hard to describe, for reasons anyone who dares watch it will find obvious.
Sorte Nula (2004)
Terrible
Terrible. There's no way to get around it. A script at the level of one from some Mexican soap opera, a choice and use of the places of shooting that make the movie labyrinthine and at the same time, repetitive and monotonous, with disastrous performances of almost the entire cast. The references to Tarantino's work, so poorly made, are more an insult than anything else. I suspect that was not for the shameless and plot-unrelated exploitation of Matadinho's generous curves , nobody would take the effort to go watch this film to any theater.
These are the kind of films that make me have no desire to watch Portuguese cinema.
