The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Shocking - an old book actually made into a movie
I have to say that I hate most new movies. They rip off the title of an old book, throw the rest of the book away and then make some politically-correct garbage claiming it to be the same story that has little if anything to do with what the book said. Here, a Hollywood director actually made a movie that IS the old book. He didn't even remove the Christian parallels that the original writer intended nor did he change the main characters to be something more politically-correct - I am still trying to get over the shock of seeing a novel properly made into a movie. A very good movie well done. I will be looking forward to the rest of the series.
Mortdecai (2015)
Action and Humor
Though not a rolling-on-the-floor laugh riot, the movie is packed with both witty humor and action, often together, And Gwyneth Paltrow is exquisite. A lost gem.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Really - How bad can political correctness get?
I use to consider First Knight the worst "Arthurian" based movie ever. The idiots were running around wearing cloth coats with bits of shiny plastic glued to them, they now have my apologies! At-least they were wearing plastic patches and not Robes, beanies and a modern jacket! Now there's something to go alongside the 300 Greek Hoplites jumping around doing karate kicks in loin cloths. Idiots seem to think that 'creative license' and 'politically correct' gives them the right to vomit out whatever garbage they want to. Hey, Historic news flash - political correctness be damned - NONE OF THE KNIGHT OF THE ROUND TABLE WERE BLACK OR CHINESE, no more than any of the 47 Ronin were white! If you want to do something with a bunch of non-white heroes - that's great, just don't trash existing heroes, when are they going to produce a version of the Revolution where George Washington and Ben Franklin are Black? There is some evidence (as shown In 2004) that these characters were based on real people, and I am quite sure that they would be highly OFFENDED by this garbage. I certainly am. If "politically correct" were actually correct then it wouldn't need the word "politically" would it? These idiots should quit doing anything remotely concerning history and stick to the made-up fiction they produce anyway..One review said "Leave your preconceptions at home" Its says "king Arthur" I have the right to certain preconception, like them being English - or at=least European, and wearing some form of armor, not robes and beanies.
47 Ronin (2013)
Hollywood needs to learn history
Really?!?! It wasn't enough that the main characters in a movie about "Pearl Harbor" were Army pilots, now The main character in the most iconic story of Japanese Samurai is white! When will the 'political correct-technically wrong' END. There was no white guy among the 47 Ronin and they certainly wouldn't have accepted him as a "Samurai". Nor were there (as far as I'm aware) gun involved. how idiotic. Read a history book for crying out loud.
I must say that the cinematography and equipment (swords, armor etc...) were well done. (the only reason for the second star)
Darkest Hour (2017)
10 stars because there isn't an 11th
Perhaps the best historical based movie I've seen this century. The acting, and directing are unbelievable. The only weak areas are in cinematography, with the same 3 model airplanes appearing briefly multiple times, though the battle scenes are more background than germane, so they're acceptable, and barely noticeable amidst the great acting.
Noah (2014)
Do California schools teach reading?
generally agree with "No, no, Noah". I thought the special effects (for what they were) were very good, but the 'argument' over 'vision' is irrelevant. Paramount should have fired the ... uhm ... (we'll say illiterate for niceness) who apparently can't read a book and hired a producer (and writer, and director) who can actually read. No idea how he found a Toll to bend over for him to pull this toll-crap out of. I will avoid any more 'based on' movies with the name 'Darren Aronofsky' attached anywhere to it! What is with Hollywood constantly producing stupid crap and claiming its "the story of" ... whatever, It's getting really annoying.
The Monuments Men (2014)
Surprisingly Serious
With a cast like Bill Murray and John Goodman you'll think that this has a lot of comedy, but there is very little to laugh at, don't go in thinking there is. Though there are a few incidence of dry humor, some really good, they are very little and very few. A lot of the movie is just what the plot says, a group of middle age art experts, drafted into the army to chase down vast art collections stolen by the NAZI High Command to fill Hitler's planned 'Hitler Art Museum'.
The Legend of Awesomest Maximus (2011)
got to finish it
While watching it I was a little put off by the non-historic mix of 300 & Troy - but knowing its N.L. I didn't expect a historical documentary, unlike 300 and Troy with their stupid Kung Fu Hoplites in skirts (if your going to do a Kung Fu movie do it & don't pretend it in ancient Europe! unless it tongue in cheek) which this makes fun of). Put history aside & the jokes were funny. The acting is great. The cinematography is good. The girls are hot. What more do you need? (unless you a pretentious snob - then what are you doing watching N.L.?) The last scene puts it all in prospective (won't spoil it for you it just makes it all make sense). great spoof movie with a great reason for the spoofs (& deserving targets)!
Conspiracy (2008)
anti-white racist ripoff of "Nowhere to Run"
A horrible racist anti-white ripoff of Jean-Claude Van Damme & Rosanna Arquette's 1993 "Nowhere to Run" where (in this movie) all whites are evil murdering slavers. It claims somehow a single business man started the whole Iraq war just to sale bombs & "somehow" knew he would get paid to rebuild the country after. He's suppose to be some kind of neo-nazi extremist, "enslaving" Mexicans, by giving them jobs in America, yet the same guy doesn't want any Mexicans in America (????). A total work of racist crap fiction with absolutely no basis in reality. I'll be keeping a watch out for this writer, as well as the director & producer so as not to wast any money on any of there movies!
Charmed: Charmed Again: Part 1 (2001)
Sequel to All Hell Breaks Loose (2001)
Though a seaming non sequitur to All Hell Breaks Loose (2001) the end of season 3. these episodes are more concerned with the recovery of "the Power of Three" (the main foundation of the series) after the dismissal of Shannen Doherty, than why she was lost. The episode All Hell Breaks Loose (2001) ends with an attack by the demon Shax on Prue, Piper and Dr. Griffits with all three blasted, Unconscious & Bleeding. In this episode it is mentioned that Prue & "a prominent doctor" are killed in their home & that Leo saved Piper but was not allowed to save Prue. it also mentions that Cole fled the underworld, saving Phoebe from her promise to remain & making him a trader to "The Source". Though not mentioned in this episode the promise to remain in the previous episode was conditional that Prue & Piper receive a warning of the attack, but that warning was not delivered nulling Phoebes promise to remain.
