Filmed around the low unemployment and depressed "overspill" council estate of Langley in Middleton, Manchester. This was the perfect setting for Raining Stones ( the title speaks for itself, it means, nothing is easy, everything hurts or is hard ) True local rumour has it, that the villains of the film are loosely based on a notorious underworld family of the same area.

One mans determination to have the very best for his daughters holy communion leads him into many escapades as he tries honestly and dishonestly to raise enough money for the apple of his eyes holy communion dress. From cleaning drains to sheep rustling on the local moor he eventually and without his partners knowledge borrows the money His inability to pay the lender the money back results in the local loan shark buying the debt (this is a common practice) the loan shark and his entourage then proceed to chase the unfortunate man for there money. Great stuff, realistic and treasure to watch.

The true story of an eight man team of SAS special forces who are dropped behind enemy lines in Iraq. There two fold mission is to take out the M.R.S lines (main supply route) and any scud missile launchers they encounter. It all goes wrong from day one and they are forced to flee across Iraq with their pursuers hot on their trail. Memorable performance from Sean Bean

Edge of Darkness (1985)

Perhaps the most intriguing political thriller of its time. Edge of darkness epitomizes the fear of the common people in post "bay of pigs time" in the scene when Inspector Craven and the C.I.A agent Jedburgh while secretly breaking into the mysterious Northmoor military establishment discover what can only be described as a frightened peoples attempt to live through a nuclear holocaust. One and a half miles underground an aladdins cave designed by its makers purely to stay alive. Stocked with every conceivable edible and drink. With additional items that can only serve to remind any survivor or their offspring of how the world was once. How did they get that sports car down there.

Powerful performances by Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker make this two part film a must for any collectors library.

If ever any one was in doubt that democratic governments may not be averse to using the occasional dirty tricks then this film is an eye opener. Based around a busy news paper office this is the story of one mans crusade to make sure a scandal involving a cabinet minister is not pushed under the carpet. The story is full of twists and turns as our intrepid hero gets the bit between his teeth but the powers that be haul in him and judge for yourself the meaning of their words. A must for any one into political thrillers.
