Babardeala cu bucluc sau porno balamuc (2021)
Thought provoking
Awesome movie, but I don't think a person not familiar with Romanian culture and history will understand it properly. I generally don't like artsy films, but this was an example of one done right. It has kept me interested throughout, with minor exceptions. Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you get sad, ashamed, bored, confused. It cycles you through these emotions in a dynamic way.
I also liked the fact that they've advertised some of the sponsors straight on, without trying to hide it in any way.
Inside the World's Toughest Prisons (2016)
Fake and judgemental
I watched the first episode and it seemed a bit exaggerated. So I decided to skip straight to the episode from my country, Romania.
It looked so fake and staged. There's this guy with his family, who says they're all gypsies. They look like hired actors. Why do I think that? All milky white. Gypsies in Romania are darker skinned, they have Indian origins. Also the hair of his wife and daughter: Romanian gypsy women keep their hair most of the time as braided pigtails (or "contained" in some way) when in traditional clothing. Google for some photos. Also the way all of them speak is not indicative of a gypsy origin, especially for going-to-jail type. If I'm mistaken, I do apologize to the guy and his family.
There are real prisoners in the episode, some known ones that showed up in the media.
The host was trying to make everything about his preconceived gypsy theme. If 50% of the prisoners in an US prison are green, you wouldn't call it a green prison, would you?
As others have mentioned, the host was reminding us very often that he has done time, was trying to make everything look more dangerous than it is and was being incredibly judgemental with the prisoners.
Overall, too cringe to watch another episode. Wasted opportunity by bad hosts and/or script. The only thing good, hence the 3 stars, is that you get to see the how these prisons look on the inside and know some of the people there.
Dylda (2019)
Unclear and awful audio
The plot is unclear. But the worst thing about this movie, as it is with many many "foreign" language films, is the audio processing. You can barely hear the actors speaking, if you don't want the ambient and soundtrack make you deaf. How can one think viewers care more about the ambient sound than what people are saying is beyond my understanding.
The lighting is cool.
I couldn't watch more than 30 minutes. And I really wanted to like it, as I love both the subject matter and the language.
