Leaves of Grass (2009)
quirky but crappy
In the beginning of the movie it felt like its gonna be a funny thrilling ride but then it didn't feel quite right...the first hour was boring and the second hour though quirky (i like quirky) soon turned out to be crappy being good only in few parts...not that the film wasn't well made but the plot was just not good enough...i'll rather watch a Scorsese or Tarantino crime movie which gives me more satisfaction because it seemed from the climax of this film that it tried to be like one of them.
It still gets a 5/10 from me because of Edward Norton's amazing performance as both of the twins and the nice character sketch of the identical twins...the character of the dope brother was really cool.
Karthik Calling Karthik (2010)
A Breezy Suspense Thriller...
Karthik calling Karthik is a good movie with decent suspense and nice romance and comedy in between....although i had figured out a certain part of the suspense it still did succeed to surprise me a couple of times or so...so for those wouldn't know the suspense in the beginning it would be even better...a real revelation....the movie doesn't progress at a very fast pace-and that's not a negative aspect of the film-but it does progress steadily...the basic concept though was inspired but the story and screenplay were original and impressive...the dialogs are witty, funny and real not filmy....the first time director Vijay Lalwani is good...did not expect him to be as much good...there were some slick scenes shot in black and white-really liked their timing and the style-and some impressive camera work...his direction is better than what i expected because i didn't expect much....the director gives no unnecessary build ups and wastes no time in bringing in the main theme of the movie to the forefront...farhan akhtar is just amazing in his role and without doubt its no easy role to play..he impresses as the loser Karthik..the suave Karthik..and as the Karthik's voice over the phone...Deepika Padukone is good too...she's damn spontaneous and that's one quality i like in actors...but not every actor has it....the supporting cast is good too...the music is amazing..Shankar Ehsaan Loy's music is cool..background music complements well.... all in all its a nice entertainer with intelligent script and not the usual 'bollywood' crap...go check it out because when its farhan akhtar's movies he never fails to deliver.
Law Abiding Citizen (2009)
there are no deals with the killers.....
Its an edge of the seat thriller with much suspense and twists...its a solid action packed thriller that gives you,at least me goosebumps most of the time...this movie is some real deal...enjoyed it very much...it made me sad, angry and outraged...and thats why i liked it so much..i totally symphatised with the character of gerard butler, clyde shelton...i was supporting him even when he was planning to kill the mayor!!
The movie is slick...gerard as clyde totally nails it..he is amazing...wonder why did not he try to kill jamie foxx...jamie foxx as nick rice is good too...don't know why did it get such a low rating on rottentomatoes.....because i believe the movie totally rocks...
P.S. I Love You (2007)
Disappointing AFFAIR...
well honestly i am not a big fan of the book PS i love you...i didn't quite like it and rather found it pretty much average and even annoying at times...all this grieving lady used to do was going to the pubs or parties and cry at the end of the day...
BUT when i saw the movie i felt the book was 100 times better...i had new found love for this book...i missed the lovable characters of the book like Declan,Richard and jack...well didn't miss jack that much...i don't understand why would the director drift away so much from the book...i mean the movie didn't work for me at all..it seemed so plastic and uneven...the characters like Sharon and Denise failed to establish the closeness and chemistry they shared with holly as in the book...the character of Daniel though totally changed seemed interesting but not well defined...and insertion of a character like William made the movie plot more crappy...
NOW something about the actors...i didn't really quite imagine Hilary swank to be perfect for the role of holly but when i saw her in the movie she was quite OK but not perfect..Gerrard Butler as Gerry was charming..Harry Connick Jr. as Daniel was gud but with very less screen time..someone like Lisa Kudrow with such gr8 comic histrionics was totally wasted...totally disappointed...Gina Gershon as Sharon didn't impress, seemed more like a bitch...didn't imagine the character of Sharon like this at all...Nellie McKay as ciara was totally lovely..she fitted the character to the T...
all in all the movie was total crap and a waste...the director was clueless and confused and had gone out of way to make a typical Hollywood romcom movie...
The Departed (2006)
mindblowing!!!
i have never seen a better crime thriller movie than this one...the departed is truly awesome with amazing acting, screenplay, music and direction...while watching you will not get bored even one minute though its a two hour and a half minute movie...its like you will keep thinking what happens next.
its very slick and stylish and even shocking at times especially the climax...even though i have not seen the original movie internal affairs...i can bet on it that the departed will surely not disappoint you to say the least....all in all a smart movie by a great director....
Revolutionary Road (2008)
powerful performances in an otherwise weirdly sad and depressing movie
i don't know why some people love to watch these kind of sad and depressing movies but i respect their opinions...it doesn't mean that i don't like movies which make me cry...i love many of them..they are mostly touching...but Revolutionary Road is a very hopeless and sad movie...the thing is it works for me only in parts...like the ending where the old man reduces the volume to minimum while his wife kept saying awful things about the Wheelers and a few more...DiCaprio,my favorite,as usual gives a mind blowing performance...Kate winslet was also good but i didn't like her character very much...she was kind of a very nagging wife and after the cancellation of their trip she was kind of losing it and becoming more insane...and that was really annoying...i can watch titanic as many times i can but watching revolutionary road again will be quite a task.
Marley & Me (2008)
loved each and every minute...and i wept..
Marley and me is an amazing movie going experience...its story is very simple without any twists or turns...but it hits you hard at your heart with the amazing performances of the actors...by actors i especially mean to include Marley-the dog followed by owen Wilson and jennifer aniston...i have never ever seen such a fantabulous performance by a dog in any other movie...the director is able to capture each and every act of the dog very successfully...Marley's naughty and neurotic behaviour, his love, his restlesness, his ailing, his aging everything has been portrayed very beautifully...i wont forget to give credit to owen Wilson and jennifer aniston who played the role of a married couple very well and their attachment and love for their dog seemed very real...the movie also shows the adjustments and the sacrifices one has to make in real life very beautifully...near the end of the movie(the last 20 minutes or so),although i knew what was coming i couldn't hold my tears anymore...the emotion is too strong to control and i wept...a beautiful movie...cheers to Marley-the great and beautiful dog.
About a Boy (2002)
Best Hugh Grant Movie Ever!!!
this is a very sweet film with high repetitive value...hugh grant plays the role of a man who 'is an island' with panache...he is really cool...the kid was also cute and played his role very well...its a very well made film...as the film progresses it goes on attracting you more towards itself as it should be...and it is able to raise a few laughs...the humor is apt...though i don't think its necessary for every film to deliver a message but it does..and i liked the message it delivered that no man is an island...everybody needs someone to stay cheerful....go out for this one...i bet you wont be disappointed....because somewhere it really touches you...
My Best Friend's Girl (2008)
stupid movie
i have nothing to say about this movie...don't waste your money by going out for this one...this movie doesn't impress me...not even one bit...neither its crude humor...i watched it thinking it will be a nice time pass...but i made a big mistake...foolish actors except Kate Hudson(she was the only one whom i liked in the movie who makes this stupid movie get a rating at least for this otherwise non-sensible film),and a foolish plot...all these call for a stupid movie...Dane Cook was so irritating..he was like..he irritated the hell out of me...Jason Biggs whom i liked in the lovely, crude and smart American pie series made a big mistake by doing this movie...he was like gaping all around throughout the movie like a stupid jerk...all in all this one is just a wannabe cool movie...it fails miserably.
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
a very new, different and modern take on Pride & Prejudice !!!
well well well Bridget Jones is not fat...she is rather healthy i must say...and i prefer healthy girls to the skinny ones...so here is this girl in her thirties and yet unmarried...she is quite a smoker and a drinker...but she wants to quit now as per her new year resolutions and find herself a nice and decent guy...so she maintains a diary to keep her resolutions...Bridget Jones is a lovely character quite perfectly played by Renée Zellweger...she is vulnerable..outspoken..and absolutely not a good public speaker...but all these qualities makes her really attractive...Renée Zellweger is really adorable...Hugh Grant plays a womanizer...quite a different role from what i've really seen him in...he does always these goody good roles which makes him lovable...but here he surprises and as usual funny...Collin firth plays mark Darcy to the T...this Mark-Bridget romance reminds me of the Will Darcy-Elizabeth one in Pride & Prejudice...quite interesting to watch...LOVE Bridget Jones.
Notting Hill (1999)
'..surreal but nice'
i have been into romantic movies for quite a while now...don't know why but i love watching them maybe because of their positive attitude...especially this one-Notting Hill...surreal but nice romantic comedy in which a famous actress falls for an ordinary guy...really it doesn't happen everyday and not so fast as shown...but it was a very sweet movie with beautiful music and amazing acting...Julia Roberts was terrific as Anna Scott...she was fabulous..and Hugh Grant has his own charm man...he too was brilliant...my favorite scene being the one in which Julia delivers the painting to Hugh where she says,"don't forget she is just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her"...seriously movies are meant to entertain and lift you up...take my word this one doesn't fail for sure.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Sweet & Charming!!!!
this is a sweet teen movie that leaves u charmed by the time it ends.....the actors were awesome....especially heath ledger n Julia....actually heath ledger has become quite a favorite of mine these days...don't miss it because i was really pleasantly surprised....the music that keeps playing in the background is also amazing...i was wondering about the movie's title till the very end and that is my favorite scene where Julia says 'the 10 things i hate about you' in the class indicating towards ledger...that was really a sweet scene filled with warmth....yes i can watch this movie again and again though its not a great movie but its a light hearted teen movie which has all that romance and humor in it...more importantly its a movie its meant to be...A SWEET and CHARMING TEEN FLICK!!!!
