What did you think you were going to be watching?

If comedy is the result of characters' reactions to ridiculous circumstances with ridiculous actions then this is comedy. Not hysterical, but still comedy.

People have focused on Ricky Gervais with this so that's where I will focus, but seriously every performance turned in was appropriate to the film. And for the most part I enjoyed it.

I think if Ricky Gervais did this movie in his usual comedy style it wouldn't have worked at all. This reminds me of a time in the 90's where movies seemed to ask "How many situations can we make the Odd Couple work in?" and if this came out then I don't think it would be met with the same negativity.

It's just a light movie with a collection of decent punchlines and worked well to help pass the time on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

Had it been in theaters I could of taken my grandparents or parents to see it and enjoyed it with them but wouldn't have been pleased to have paid to see it alone.

It's by no means a classic but I'll let it land on the better side of 6.5 stars.

While I like Ricky Gervais, people who talk like he is some sort of comedic cinema great need to look at his works, he certainly tries a lot of different things but as of yet, in my opinion has only been successful in The Invention of Lying, Derek, and Extras... Honestly that's it. He's a writer/ comedian 1st and an actor 3rd.

Yes I know what I said.

The worst movies aren't the ones that are bad but the ones that start good.

Imagine Psych the TV show was based in the real world and Shawn was 80 and actually psychic. Gus and Juliet are the same person, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the Lassiter type character is played by Abbie Cornish, and Colin Farrell plays Yang.

So for half the movie I was watching saying "I can't understand how people rated this poorly, it's actually surprisingly good". But then 2 things happened and took me completely out of the mindset of "I'm enjoying this"and put me in the mindset of "finishing this because I've come this far".

The first thing was Colin, an actor I actually really like but in this just played "crazy eyes" and was too brooding for his own good.

The second thing was the end. No spoilers but I found it to be destructive to what I thought the rest of the film had done.

It's certainly not worth buying but it is a movie you could spend $2 and rent for date night.

It's good

Visually stimulating, with intelligent witty comical dialogue, talented actors, and a director that's pretty new to the game was able to literally transform a comic to a movie. Almost like reading a graphic novel through the screen. Yes it has similarities to sin city, but it's the same guy, in the same genre, using the same mediums... Most people looked at the preview and said "Oh, it looks like sin city" and I think that turned them off to it. I was going to see Benjamin Button (christmas), but the line was to long and we saw this instead (myself a girl I took, and a friend) and she was against it, but ended up really liking it. The movie is really good, and simply sprinkled in bada$sery. Something fun that you will enjoy.
