Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004)
One of the best games ever...
This game is probably one of the best ps2 games ever in my view, the other games being Spartan Total Warrior, Freedom Fighters and Hit-man Blood Money. The game is perfect for many reasons such as graphics, controls, story and great characters, it is the pinnacle of ps2 gaming.
The story is about Naked Snake (Big Boss) who infiltrates Russia to rescue defecting scientist Sokolov who is developing the basis for Metal Gears, the Shagohod which is a treading tank which can launch ICBMs to intercontinental range, for it to do it though it needs three miles to give it momentum. The mission dose not go well though, Sokolov is kidnapped by Cobra Unit, which is compromised of The End, The Fear, The Fury, The Pain and The Sorrow each of their names taking their emotions from battle, The Boss also leads this group and later in the game you learn her greatest and last mission, it also turns out to be her greatest but heroic burden. I am not going to reveal to much about the plot as it's too long and too complicated, i loved the plot and it's worthy of an Oscar award in my opinion.
The game uses everything well, the graphics are pure amazing, the characters are well-developed, the controls are very responsive (the camera is not good though) and the story got me hooked from start to finish, the best set pieces are just great, for example The End boss battle and being chased by the Shagohod on a motorbike are legendary 10/10 it deserves 10/10 and it's getting it.
Hideo Kojima should be proud.
Sin City (2005)
Hell of a movie...
Trust me this is the probably the best movie you will ever see, yes it is a graphic novel and graphic novels to movies usually are crap, but this conversion ain't.
Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez dose a good job on this movie for many reasons, but the most important one is it follows the yarns closely (The Hard Goodbye, The Yellow Bastard and The Big Fat Kill) without being boring or unfaithful to the graphic novels roots.
The story follows three very different people in Sin City, Marv, Dwight McCarthy and John Hartigan in different situations, Marv avenging the death of his lover violently, Dwight trying to save old town prostitutes from the the cops and Irish mercenaries and Hartigan attempting to stop the Roark Family, the stories interlink and set in different periods.
The reason this film is so good is because of the characters and the actors portraying them Bruce Willis as gruff cop John Hartigan, Mickey Rourke as psychopath Marv and Clive Owen as saint Dwight McCarthy are amazing, the way the film is presented in stylish black and white with red the only colour as blood is jaw-dropping it's so great. The only negative feedback in my opinion was the yarn A Dame To Kill For was not included sadly and possibly an original story featuring all the main and secondary characters, other than this though it's still excellent in my mind.
Bring on Sin City 2 and 3...
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
A Great Film
This movie is possibly one of Quentin Tarantino's finest films, better than Kill Bill, Jackie Brown and the rest of his films, this film is what gained him national and possibly global recognition.
The film is about jewel thieves who go on to rob diamonds from a bank, but predictably the cops show up, but what goes on next is unknown, as cleverly Quentin doesn't show what happens but through dialogue we learn what happens, Mr Blonde taking civilians hostage, Mr Orange getting injured, Mr Blue getting killed and generally the rest getting split up. The majority of it taking place in a abandoned warehouse some of it taking in the the streets.
I ain't going to reveal too much about the film for fear of ruining it too much for people accidentally viewing this, but this film is genius for the whole plot, sure thieves robbing banks and the cops showing up is clichéd and predictable, but it's also originally in adding humour, although it emphasises on the n-word too much for my liking, it's also really funny. The other point i'm going to make is it's genius because it shows us nothing about the actual heist itself, only through dialogue we learn about it. Let's not forget the characters: the psycho Mr Blonde, the veteran Mr White, the snitch Mr Orange, the unknown Mr Blue, the whiny little Mr Pink, the boss, the son Nice Guy Eddie Cabot and the boss Joe Cabot, they are all excellently portrayed by their actors.
The last bit of my review is something negative: i want to know more about the actual heist itself and it's too short for my liking, that's why it don't earn a 10/10 . But overall it's a great movie, let's hope there will be a sequel soon hopefully.
Quentin Tarantino should be proud.
