John Carter (2012)

Overall a good film

I went to the local IMAX to see John Carter this week end and I really enjoyed it, as did my friends 13 year old. We also took in the Iron Lady and The Artist and enjoyed it more than both of them put together. I know a flop when I see one and it's a shame that John Carter is tanking at the box office. Believe me it's not the best film I have seen but it did keep my attention and the characters were interesting enough to care about. What more do people want out of a film these days is beyond me, but then again we are talking about some people who have the attention span of a gnat brought on by the convenience of being able to "click" to the next available piece of entertainment at any sign of boredom. We had at least seven people walk out of The Artist within the first 15 minuets because they couldn't take that it was silent, and it won Best Picture. Granted John Carter has a few slow parts but none that made me want to get up and visit the concession stand. Such a shame too because I would like to see the story continue where it left off. This will be one to put into my Blu-ray collection when available and that's saying something. If this is something you wanted to go see then do it and make up your own mind, you will probably enjoy yourself as much as I did.

Jeepers Creepers (2001)

A return to the creature features

For all it's worth I thought that Jeepers Creepers was great. A lot of people have critisized this film and just did'nt like it. The only flaw in the film was the reason for them to return to the church where they saw the mysterious man. If that would have been anyone in their right mind they would have drivin as far away as posssable. I thought that Trish should have been knocked out to awaken only to find her brother gone. The only place for her to start looking would have been the church.Other than that the film was a blast. The creature was great and one of the scariest I've seen in a while. Very imagiantive and constantly asking what the hell IS THAT? As in any horror film it is ment to be entertaining. If you watched the whole thing without hitting the eject button then you must have had some intrest in it. Victor has brought back a return to the old style creature feature films that I loved in the day and hope to see him make some more in the future.

Blade Runner (1982)

Awsome

I would really like to see Ridley Scott do another sci-fi film. He has proven that he is a man of vision and style that compares to none. Blade Runner is definatly in my collection and I still watch it to this day. Production on this film was fantastic to say the least and the cast was superb. The story combined with special effects is a classic that has a cult following to make it one of the best in it's gene. The director's edition is the best in my opinon and should have been released as such. It brings up the question was Decker a replicant? How many were really out there no one even suspected? One of the top ten in my book and still hold up rather well even today.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

THE benchmark for sci-fi

This is the benchmark for all future sci-fi films and gave birth to such films as Star Wars and Alien. The movie world was turned on it's ear when this film came out as a visually stunning and thought provocative film. Never before had a film brought to life with such stunning realality the future of space exploration and what it might be like to live and work in space. With it's groundbreaking effects this film allowed future directors to bring to life more imaginative films and expand the sci-fi world.This is without a doubt the film that Stanly Kubrick will be most identified with and rightly so.

Metropolis (1927)

An all time classic

Metropolis is one of those films that even to be as old as it is can still be veiwed time and agian. The robot is one of the most imagianative Ive seen and still is on of my personal favorites next to Robby. The story makes one think of technology and man, where will it take us? I can't wait to get a copy of the new DVD release to add to my collection. The first time I saw it I was totally engrossed untill the end. Who would have thought that in a silent film. Fritz Lang's masterpeice will live long into the next century and continue to spark the imagiantion of everyone who has the chance to see it.
