Cabin Fever (2002)
Suspense is Boring!
What I loved about Cabin Fever is something many, some or few may have noticed, its utter disrespect for all of its characters. Of course, the characters in this trashy horror flick are cliche and lacking of depth and the movie begins the way a campy B-Horror flick would, but it is truly a fun ride if you aren't too shy to admit that gore and the death of some stereotypical characters are what they are---amusing. The cinematic style and the film's look on screen are also something to be admired. Don't get me wrong this film is not Oscar bound (maybe for make-up), neither is it an arthouse gem or even as serious and bold as 28 Days Later, but it is most definitely a Fun, Fun ride. Take note, as with all fun rides you may have to close your eyes or hold your stomach during some of the hills, twists and turns. Enjoy!
My Friend Paul (1999)
More poignant than it first revealed
Before I saw this film, I read the synopsis and thought this documentary seems a bit contrived and could possibly be your run of the mill reunion story. But the more I watched, the more I was intrigued and ultimately touched by the reality of what I was watching on screen. It showed a director who tried to gain control of his film, losing control of both his film and his relationship with his friend. And I was amazed by the way Paul was represented through the lens of the camera, through unbiased eyes, loving, and kind, perhaps the way a friend would have seen Paul. This movie was an extraordinarily poignant film that revealed a lot more than it had meant to do in the beginning.
