Train (2008)
Can't get those moments of my life back
I would love to get inside the minds of anyone who rated this higher than a 2.
Anyone who knows about how movies are made should know that even if a company buys a GOD AWFUL script.... they can always CHANGE it. Stanley Kubrick was known to write scripts as he filmed (The Shinning) so.... there is ABSOLUTELY no reason that this story should be this bad. The director can change the script for free. The producers can sit down and change the script, for free. Hell, even actors have thrown their two cents in and made GREAT changes to movies. You don't have to hire a writer to change a bad story into a good one.
It's like, everyone on this film really liked it because, you cannot sit up here and tell me that NO ONE working this film had something bad to say about it.
1. Scenes were too dark: I'll be 30 soon and I am FULLY embracing gore. Gimme a little light so I can see. I thought the disgusting dissections could have been good, but I could not see them!
2. Good idea, bad execution: Harvesting organs! Yes. On a train... uh. Torture before hand?? No thanks. Whats the point of that? Sooooo, I guess this movie is pointless.
3.Wrestlers, not being able to defend themselves?? Well, if their wrestling match was any sign of their fighting skills, then I guess so. I was not intimidated by anyone on the team... The coach told one of them that he couldn't talk unless he won, and the chick lost too, so that's 1 out of 3 victories... I guess they did suck...
4. Let's not try to escape... let's just run around like idiots... OKAY! How the hell did they make it into the woods with NO ONE really looking for them and still, one of them gets killed.
5. Why was it gross sometimes, but not at other times? Like when harvesting organs they got blood and guts galore! But when a man takes an ax to the belly there is no blood or anything? Why?? So he could do his own stuns??
6. No one, tries to help anyone, basically... How are you gonna kill the dude trying to rape you and then run off and leave the man in the cage when the other rapist sees you?? Why don't you follow your own lead and kill him, after you let the man out of the cage... LOGIC. Dude has his dick out, he's super vulnerable. On top of that, all this rape and implied rape is totally unnecessary, as were the characters who did the raping. They did not make the story better in any way.
The list could go on so let me just say: This movie had absolutely NO logic. I finished it because I was WAITING AND WAITING FOR SOMEONE, ANYONE to man up! COME ON! It was like, dumb on top of dumb.
There are somethings I expect... tripping while you run away, getting caught and locked up, but this was like crawling when you could easily run and putting on your own handcuffs. When you fall, get up and sprint it out, when you get caught, escape...
This movie just surrendered.
Devil (2010)
Twist I couldn't believe, until I thought about it
It was not pizza it was a piece of toast with jelly... moving on.
I thought this movie had an AMAZING ending. Made my mouth drop open!
I did not at all mind the religious ideology because the movie is called Devil.... I think it's funny how people watch movies about the Devil (a fallen angel and the nemesis of God) but don't want to hear about religion... ANYWHO!
My only issue was some technical stuff, like common sense. People going off on their own when they KNOW they need to take someone with them, not protecting themselves. I mean I know most of the occurrences were motivated by the devil but people were careless. It's getting to the point where I think that kind of cliché in horror and suspense should be left out. I'd like it a lot more if people did their best to be safe but were still over taken or survived... Wouldn't that be more interesting?
All and All I thought this was an excellent movie, kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved the detective, he was great, smart, witty. Loved him. And again, the ending was SICK! After I pondered it a bit I could see it coming but I was caught off guard initially!
Non-Stop (2014)
Not well tied up...
I really liked this movie but I have to complain about the writers inability to tie this movie up and use details to their advantage.
As an example: At the end of the movie, the antagonists monologue was clear but not detailed enough to make me think he was the mastermind. To be honest, this character was just not strong to me. That's a no no. I mean, he SEEMED smart but I just didn't see him being the person behind this caper. And his partner in crime was not detailed enough to have been in charge of the bulk of the planning so I know they intended for the Tom Bowen character to be the ring leader. I mean, come on, this man rigged up the TV's on the plan to show news coverage on cue! His closing speech and behavior should have been fantastic! But it fell WAY short. To fit my theme of tying it up at the end, with this character being so weak and lacking a better detailed explanation for his crimes, I felt lost. Yeah, security sucks but was all this necessary? Yeah, you have some PTSD but whats your motivation? I also understand that some people are just crazy and don't need motivation but that should be clear.
Also, they tried way to hard to make EVERYONE look like a suspect. At the end I had a list of about 8 people who may have been involved (the real criminals were on that list also). Co-pilot, stewardess, NYPD, hostile black man in the cameo, Julianne Moore's character, and others. I know some people may disagree with me and call this a "true mystery" because of that but on a plane full of people and with the build up that they used and full plane shots of the passengers I didn't need to see everyone's nervous looks and shifty eyes 100 times, I know it could be anyone... I'm not stupid. Like the stewardess for instance, I just knew she was involved. She looked too nervous, she was too nosy, etc. But at the end, nothing, they didn't even give her a reason for looking so suspicious the whole darn movie! Again, they did not do a good job tying up the loose ends.
And just a little pet peeve I had, why did it take these people so long to understand that Liam Neeson's character was right! After the pilot died the co-pilot should have been right on board! I was upset because everyone wants to call this man an alcoholic and shun him but they can clearly see that he's right and they continued to bash him and distrust him. It took an act of congress to get them to believe him. That's annoying.
All and all I did enjoy this movie but I will probably not watch it again. I thought the passengers were a little to ignorant and I can't stand that! You can take denial only so far before it gets annoying.
The Devil Inside (2012)
There are some movie snobs around here...
1. I have not seen every single exorcism movie in the world. 2. I am not an exorcist.
I don't understand why all these exorcism "experts" who've seen a million exorcism movies have an issue with this movie. They keep saying its cliché and not original.
How original can you really make the idea of possession without making it something completely new? Demon possession has been made entertainment for DECADES even before movies were made about it. In verbal stories possession has been immortalized before now. Human possessed, talking crap, contorting. That's what its about, if you don't want to see that or feel that's not good enough, then why are you watching yet another exorcism movie? Something that is what it is, is what it is... For instance, if I made a movie about my dog licking his own privates, wouldn't that be the same movie as your dogs? Sure the angle might be different but licking is basically licking.
SOOOOOOOO in defense of this movie, I have seen a few exorcism movies and this one was different to me. Very different. It got so interesting to see the others go through their changes after being possessed and I thought it said something about the mothers possession as well. That gradual change would have been interesting to see before she murdered everyone, but that was left out. The characters changed slowly, some faster than others, but it was shocking to me sometimes to see how they were behaving. My mouth was open at times without my prior knowledge, and in shock.
I did not like how fast the movie ended after they were possessed though. I wanted to see more and I was curious about the priest who did not seem possessed, because there were four demons in the mother. Either one stuck with the mother or, this particular priest was possessed and just evolving more slowly than the others.
And as far as the ending goes... It seems to me like these exorcism "experts" are just mad because they didn't get a definite happy (possession free) (or sad (everyone dies) for that matter) ending. You were left wondering and in some cases that pisses me off, but this was almost perfect. To me it shows how truly mysterious demonic possession is! It shines a light on "weird incidents". Like have you ever seen a news story and wonder, "Why weren't they..." or "how could they..." I'm sure when the authorities showed up to that accident scene they were confused as heck, just like we are sometimes in life. Confused about peoples behavior.
All and all, I would recommend this movie. It's not a jump out of your seat kind of movie but I found it very interesting and it caused me to think and reflect a lot! There was not a dull moment for me.
And as a side note, reviewers, stop trying to put things in a box while also expecting them to be creative. You say this was cliché by comparing it to other movies and neglect to see the things about it that are truly unique.
Abandoned (2010)
Bad acting, interesting idea
I think this could have been a GREAT movie, but the acting was poor and the script seemed rushed and awkward.
My main gripe was with Brittany Murphy's (Rest in Peace) character. I know its kind of cliché but I expected her to get stronger throughout her journey. She was showing characteristics of a strong woman pushing through trials but she was still noticeably weak. For instance, when she popped the security guard with the pipe and then answered the phone when the boyfriend called, I wanted sooooooooooooooo badly for her to say something smart to him but she just sat on the phone and breathed. Why!? You just did something bad ass! Follow up on that!
I really think another production company could revisit this movie with new actors and a touched up script. It had a lot of potential.
All and all, I'm neutral on whether I would recommend it. I wouldn't tell someone not to watch it but its not the first thing I'm gonna tell my friends about.
Dude, What Would Happen (2009)
Okay, but could crank it up a little more.
This show is pretty cool to me. I enjoy it every Wednesday at 8 pm and it usually makes me happy. I think it's cute and reminds me of MythBusters, except for kids. They do experiments and tests based on ideas they brainstorm. I think It needs to be a touch more interesting. I usually like 2 out of 3 experiments, which should be enough for me, an ADULT, watching a KIDS show. The directing and cinematography is not great. I hate the way the camera is angled for their little comments about the experiments: up the nose shots, to close to their faces and I can tell their comments are scripted so it is a little predictable, but lets remember, ADULTS, this is a KIDS show. The show has a small amount of gross-ness: Pimple popping and boogers. I'm not so into that stuff but outside of those types of things I usually enjoy my time with the Dudes.
Freaknik: The Musical (2010)
Surprisingly Entertaining
So what I didn't know, was that a butt load of celebrities are in the show. I am an avid fan of Charlie Murphy so that was a great surprise. I love Lil Wayne from the depths of my heart, not to mention DJ Pooh (Red from Friday) and a slew of other rappers and actors.
It was very entertaining. If you didn't like it, it's because you didn't get it. If you like rap at all, and are into that stuff then you will enjoy it. It's witty and daring. It challenges some stereotypes and actually has a message: "Dont give up" even with all the obstacles and temptation that you may come up against, and become pry too! Because it doesn't just show up, we often succumb to it. BUT if you don't understand rap, then you wont see that message. The way they talk and phrase these things, unless you are in the same groove wit these type of musical artists you would not understand it. The spoofs are hilarious! The "Bule" (don't think i spelled that right) are a bunch of black iconic figures and if you don't recognize their image and mock voice then its just not as funny.
Loved the animation. it was very visually pleasing to me. I woke up at 446 this morning and adult swim was on my TV so i caught the last 45 minutes. I am in the process of seeing if i can get it on my ipod soon or in the future. I would watch it over and over again.
If you're into African American and rap culture you will find it enjoyable.
Wild 'N Out (2005)
I guess some people just don't get it...
I on the other hand get it, a lot! I think it is a very hilarious and entertaining show and I am trying my hardest to find the seasons on DVD. The person who commented before me is obviously racist because all the shows he named are black shows and very entertaining to African Americans. That does not make them bad shows and in fact Wild n' Out has lasted 5 seasons so it must be at least slightly popular ^_^. Everyone does not have to get it but that also does not make it a bad show.
If you know anything about and are familiar with "cappin" or "dissin" or improv of any type, then you may like this show, black, white or otherwise. This show is a lot like Who's Line but it is based in current events and current celebrities are spoofed. It is a hip hop based show so they might be talking about 50 Cent or Kanye West but they will also talk about Justin Timberlake, Paris Hilton and no one is off limits. If you are not familiar with that type of thing you may not enjoy this show. That is the thing that will make your opinion on this show, NOT your race.
