The Watcher (2022– )

Conspiracies leading to disappointment. A mess!

Firstly... acting is decent. With a decent cast, you'd think how could this fail. An interesting history, a story based on fact, how could this fail right?

Secondly, scenery was beautiful! Even I wanted that house! I imagined myself in that house!

Thirdly, the king of weird, Ryan Murphy! Modern day horror series king taking on conspiracies like QAnon, and adrenochrome storyline's... which I would have loved to have seen explored more...

BUT, it fell short. Slow start, a few good jump scares, plenty of weird, a decent twist... and then ... nothing! Kind of disappointing ending.

Watch for the scenery and star quality... but don't expect the next "wow" because it falls short and you are left wondering why you bothered investing so much time being a "watcher" of this one.

A suitable farewell to Paul from his LA familia

I don't review many titles on IMDb. They need to touch me somehow before I bother.

Paul Walker. I remember his interview when the first F and F one was released and he wasn't much of a Hollywood namesake before then. I loved him instantaneously in that interview. There was something that reminded me of my brother in the eyes. Oddly both he and my brother were twisted in fate somehow, for they both were loving individuals who died doing something they loved, at similar ages, leaving loved ones behind. Paul succeeded my brother by 6 years so the blow was difficult when he passed, and was more raw when he died in a similar circumstance.

I followed Vin from his early days on FB, long before pages were creates and friends with stars were made. He always touched me with his love of life, and his respect for his colleagues, starring roles or not, and believed his deep love for Paul.

I avoided this movie like the plague. I knew it would burn deep, and it dd, with a rawness I didn't want to feel. It was a fitting farewell, reuniting many of the original cast. The final scene was a moving one, for although it was ambiguous to the storyline, we all knew that Paul was not to return for another, and the words spoken by Vin Diesel were so deeply moving you knew they were not only for the Brian, they were for Paul too.

Tears, accolades, and a touching farewell to Paul Walker. May you linger over a long lunch with my brother up there, and share your love of all things fast and furious, for you were both too fast and furious for this world.

Go Liam and Maggie

Liam Neeson never disappoints!

I am a horror fan. I do not stray from that genre often. I love TV series as they have better character development than movies so if i watch a movie it has to have well developed characters.

I have watched the first two Taken movies and they didn't disappoint. The third doesn't either. Third dimensional characters are presented in the three main characters, continuing the saga and the love shared between dad, daughter and mother.

This is not just an action flick because we have been involved through the continuation of the main characters' lives. The love between dad and daughter is a driving force which has continued through all three movies. Go Liam! Go Maggie! Thanks for bringing us more than your average 1 dimensional action movies!

The Age of Adaline (2015)

The acting in this I cannot fault, though Adeline has a very low range of emotions given the material, her demure persona is a sign of the times in which she was raised. Perhaps it was the stiff upper lip if the early 20th century? I have never seen the male lead and he suited his part well.

I watched this with my mother and daughters ( sobbing continued on both sides with both generations for different reasons, but both centred around loss). I felt torn, suitably watching this with both generations, as to what part of the film affected me most. Those with children and aging parents will understand when viewing this.

The soundtrack was beautiful and the song played during the most emotive scenes is both beautiful and haunting enough for me to seek it out.

A beautiful movie, which is a little in the fantasy realm in its explanation behind the mortality/immortality aspect which makes it almost fairy tale like, but beautifully executed, and gorgeously told. See it with your mother or daughter, or like I did, both! Take your tissues!

The Book of Revelation (2006)

Cleverly directed, intelligently told, brilliantly acted.

There aren't many movies which stay with you after the credits roll. There are not many movies which leave you to ponder what you just viewed, however this is one brilliantly crafted little Australian piece.

Artistically directed, and confrontational in story line, THE BOOK OF REVELATION shocks, and compels the viewer to question society's gender reversal of rape, and our own stereotypical natures.

If you are after a movie which spells out every detail in dialogue, then this movie is not for you. The telling is in the action as well as the inaction of the characters. I wanted to scream at different times, until the final scene, where it became evident the pain, shame, and frustration in the main character's role was finally realised.

A warning, there are some disturbing sex scenes, and this movie is definitely not for children!

Terra Nova (I) (2011)

Love it!

What a refreshing show with such likable characters, set in a time where our planet was not damaged by anything but nature itself! The characters are likable, and appealing and portrayed by some talented actors. The script is well written, and is something we enjoy watching as a family dealing with familiar issues - so we can identify with their personal lives despite the difference in time.

There is so much potential for this series to go into further seasons, and it is so pleasant to see something which has so many script possibilities! Good clean fun, suspense, drama and did I say ... possibility? I guess I would give an 8 and a half - but IMDb does not allow 1/2 a star!

Mamma Mia! (2008)

Feelgood tears, laughter and music!

If you're looking for perfection in the voices, forget it ... If you're looking for a story without a loophole ... forget it ... but if you want to watch a movie with some fabulous music, some talented actors, (who obviously feel a love for ABBA music - and appreciate it for what it is ... feel good fun) ... then this is the movie for YOU! This is not academy award winning movie material ... it is just feel good fun and tears!

I have seen so many father/daughter movies, and mother/son movies, but I actually had to leave the room at one point due to my over emotional state involving the mother/daughter scenario! Yes, I have two daughters ... and it was refreshing to view a comedy with a difference ... It had music, tears, love and laughter! A rare commodity today! Congrats to all who participated ... It takes talent to pull this off ... esp. with 70's genre music in a 00's movie! Loved it all! Hats off to Meryl Streep who is the Queen of talent, Pierce Brosnan who had the courage to commit to such a different genre, and to the most spectacular talent of the young lady who played the bride - I will be looking out for you again!

The Brave (1997)

Emotive Masterpiece

I am surprised that I had heard nothing of this movie ... but then I read that the talented Mr Depp had refused to show it after the controversy surrounding it ... which is very disappointing. Maybe you should have been a little more BRAVE about that choice Johnny, because a lot of people have missed a masterpiece and I don't call it that lightly.

The direction was superb ... as was the story. There was not a word spoken for so much of the beginning of the movie, but we already had a sense of the character emerging before us, and the desperation he was facing.

I watched the impending doom of the finale with such a heavy heart. A husband and father who had remained incredibly distant to those close to him ... (probably due to the desperation of the circumstances, and his feeling that he could not be there for them without providing) become so intensely sensitive and present to them, only to face the ironic and inevitable choice he had made to protect them. The plight of these disadvantaged people was immensely painful, yet the joy they got from the simple things was so touching.

The scenery, whilst not pretty by any means, only added to the depression and desperation. The soundtrack was perfect in all scenes, and the ending scene was just as it should have been ...

Mr Depp ... your talent is boundless ... and you should not shy away from producing, directing and writing - simply because of some who obviously could not see the big picture of this simply understated movie!
