Shaitan (2011)
There is SHAITAN in all of us
SHAITAN,apt title for this movie. If it had been named anything else I am sure it would not have been appropriate.Movie is basically centered around rich spoiled brats of India.Their parents have tons of money and these jackanapes are reaping on the sinful benefits of it.They are wild and careless about life but one thing that keep them united is their strong bond of friendship or it appears to be holding them together. Things are going great till they run over 2 innocent people while driving rash in a road race. This is where the movie starts to reveal the evilness of characters. These buddies come up with a perfect plan to cover up and hell starts to break loose when a corrupt cop is chasing them.Their egos clash and you know for sure that there is trouble in paradise.
Most of the actors do justice to the screen time provided to them.Rajeev Khandelwal is brilliant as the cop whose personal life is tainted but he continues to work wonders at his work.Kalki seem to made for character Amy, she does a commendable job. Rest all casting is fine.
Background score provides soul to the movie and adds to it spirit."Pintya" stands out and add to the essence of chase sequence. The gun fight scene in alley looks like heavily inspired from Tarantino but sure is interesting.
This movie provide an entirely different aspect of human nature which is not very often depicted in Bollywood.Basically is shows us there is a dark side of every individual; its just one needs that moment to let this cat out of bag.
7 Khoon Maaf (2011)
Interesting but misses some key ingredients
7 Khoon Maaf, another adaptation by Vishal Bhardwaj;Ruskin Bond's "Susanna's Seven Husband" is a different and interesting movie. It starts promising with very first story involving crippled, impotent, arrogant and extremely possessive army man and our protagonist,Susanna. It develops on well and looks Susanna has real good motive to send him to after life.Although She is at the funeral of her husband ; at the very moment she is eyeing next guy lined up for story.Maybe it would have looked fair enough in case Susanna has been portrayed as cold blooded killer but not she again falls in love with the next man and kills him.Does she have good reasons to kill them? Most of the times, I would say YES she does.It goes on like this for more or less for next six hubby's of Susanna.
What looks odd is that Susanna does not looks like having any remorse after killing her so called husbands even though she is portrayed as one being in search of love and cares a lot for them. It is a part which is hard for me to digest. Also the script takes easier path rather than logical and various stories in the movie do not look inter connected and transition from one to another is not smooth, looks like director was in hurry of ensuring killings instead of intertwining them in storyline.
On acting front Priyanka does justice to the role of Sussana.Best performance of her career so far.Among the husbands we do have some notable well performing actors but they neither have the screen time nor the character development which can utilize their potential. It does have it funny moments which stand out, notable being one when Annu Kapoor thanks Priyanka after their first one night stand stating " Hum aapka ehsaan kabhi nahi bhoola payenge, Madame."
Summing up, it a thrilling dark comedy. It's a good watch.Decent job by Vishal Bhardwaj but does not live up to the standards he has already set.I have seen much better of him.
Raavan (2010)
Ridiculous RAAVAN
Mani Ratnam again ventured into the territory unknown to the Indian directors; this time his success is just limited to good cinematography that is all which is good about the movie. Abhishek Bachchan(Beera) is a big let down. The whole movie was expected to be depending on his performance but they way he portrayed the lead character leaves a bitter taste it mouth. At time you wonder where there is something wrong with his acting or it his best work :-(.Role demanded him to show intensity, moment of craziness and hidden softer side. When he is supposed to smile in moment of madness , those moments look cheesy rather then terrorizing. Aishwarya(Tara) does nothing more than screaming in cacophony.Maybe that was as per the script ;-).Vikram (Dev) plays the bad guy badly as got nothing more to do. Story is some old revenge driven.1st half is damn boring and annoying. In 2nd half by the time story somehow picks up ; its too late to repair the damage. Brave attempt to do the thing differently but they ended up too indifferent for audience.
Lahore (2010)
Nice movie but could have been much better.
Lahore is the movie which promises you a lot with its heart in right place but at times it's so plain and dumb that is hard to digest.Story is nothing really new to offer except the theme this time being Kick boxing sport. About the characters; Aanaahad is a let down, his dialog delivery is poor and face expression are hardly convincing apart from few scenes.Sushant Singh gives a decent performance as there was not very much scope for him to show this true potential.Nafisa Ali uttering about a couple of dialogs of doting caring typical Indian mother could not have any value to movie.Mukhesh Rishi again does good as a bad guy but his character look way too idiot as if the word logic and organ brain is missing for him.Shraddha's face is so much under the layers of makeup that you wish some should remind her that use of face wash does not hurt anybody.Farooq Shaikh is the who steals the show with his hyderabadi style accent. His Pakistani counterpart Sabyasachi Chakraborty is awesome and convinces you to hate him like anything. Over all a decent one time but could have been better if editing have been more crispier and story told in a much better manner.
New York (2009)
Nice theme but horrible script and crappy dialogs
New York has it heart in right place but horrible script and pathetic acting makes sure that every time you see a protagonist uttering dialogs you wonder how can someone making movie so pathetic.
Movie starts off decently but soon everything turns sore. Omar(Neil Nitin Mukesh)delivers his worst performance; I could not figure out one moment where he was able to act convincingly enough to sympathies with the character portraited by him. Maya(Katrina Kaif) looks beautiful in movie and thats all she is there for. Sam(John Abraham) is the best actor in movie relatively. Biggest let down in movie is that it never able to make to sense the scenario it all look way too superficial. Avoid this movie as much as you can. If you want to see movie on similar theme go for KHUDA KE LIYE.
